Can u set a future date for activation?

    • +24

You can kill a couple hours on the phone every week cancelling only for them to keep billing you
Might even get a 'free' modem which they'll bill you for even though you never asked for it

      Don't go there…

      • +1

        Go to ombudsman?

        • +21

I got there in the end but you’ll never get your time back
Not worth the pain for any Optus deal

          • +20

@bloom: Last time I called them for their last deal, they insisted on sending a modem, only because they wanted me on a longer contract, and insisted my $800 new mesh WiFi (working with another NBN provider) wasn't compatible with their NBN, which is clearly BS (they didn't even ask what equipment I had, just knew it wasn't compatible lol).
Wouldn't touch Optus for NBN if you paid me to, such as in this deal.
The person in their overseas "call centre" was working from home, as I could hear chickens in the background.
            Such a professional organisation.

      • i remembered that, it's so annoying

      • +1

My view is, just about all ISPs are, tar with the same brush.
Revolut 1 time credit card is your friend and never set up a direct debit.

        • Is it really a credit card? Because I have Wise and would think your Revolut card and mine are the same, a virtual debit card

      • +10

Last time I was with Optus, they “cancelled my plan”, kept charging me, finally relented and gave me a $400 refundable credit for my cancelled plan, then they refused a refund and started the plan again to use up the credit, without issuing me a SIM card.

When I finally successfully cancelled and requested the credit be refunded, they charged me a $500 exit fee on the new plan I’d never signed up for. They waived the fee told me I’d “won” because I didn’t owe them anything. I never got that credit, even after they agreed to reimburse following multiple complaints to the ombudsman. Never again.

        • +2

Wow that is more than mean. They just charge you but pray that you are too lazy to cancel the plan.

      • They charged me for 4 months even though it's prepaid and I cancelled after 2.8 months.
I never got a refund after 4 calls. I did get $350 cash back from last time though.

      • left optus went exetel, optus were too hard to deal with when plan discounts expired, so much wasted time on the phone.

    • Don’t think so, ask on finder live chat to be sure

      • Does this work if you click go to website instead of clicking the 350 dollar link?
Cause that's a dodgy move if it doesn't. The hyperlink is different on "go to website" vs clicking the "350 reward"

    • +1

      no, immediate activation

    • Asked on live chat, they said

As long as the activation date is within 30 days of signing up, you should be fine

    • would rather not sell my data to the dark web again. nice try optus

    • The Finder's T&C seems to allow connection withing 30 days of signing up but the tricky part is getting Optus to do a future activation.

There is no option to delay the activation when signing up online, on this deal some people tried to contact Optus support after ordering to change the date but it looks like they were mostly unsuccessful.

    • does anyone know know more about this $350 digital visa card?

Can i make purchases with it anywhwere, online and in-store?

  • I have tried multiple times to do this but have never been able to get the Optus website to accept my NBN AVC. When inputting and clicking continue nothing happens. Checking chrome dev tools its showing a HTTP 500 internal server error every time I click continue. Has anyone else had any issues? Its been a while since I last tried so might try again…

    • Same. Has anyone found the solution to it?

  • +1

This is good to switchover from Origin NBN deal
Switch in late Feb or Early march and make the best out of it.

    • +1

The Optus site appears to say the $79 offer is ending 25 Feb FYI

      • +1

Correct, you would need to jump on this deal before the 25th to get both the $79 p/mth and $350 VISA eGift Card.

    • i wonder if your data is being sold to the highest better now. Because they never fixed the data leak so its still a problem so good luck to you sir!

    • Theres also the NBN flybuys deal Optus is doing. Stay for 3 months and get 40,000 flybuys = $200. So if the points come anytime before 3 months, Its the equivalent of paying less than $40 for 3 months of internet. ($79 per month for 100/20 users) Even though i don't like Optus.

  • +3

I’d prefer to use other NBN like carbon comms for $87 no jackups

    • +1

      Aren't they only in Sydney?

      • I use them in Perth no issues

      • They only have one PoP in Sydney, so if you aren't living in Sydney, you'll experience much higher ping times compared with other providers.
Spintel and Carbon Comms are the only 2 providers in Australia that I'm aware of that only have a single PoP, the others have them all over the country and usually list them on their respective websites.
Eg live in Perth, your data is heading all the way back to Sydney, then out to the web.

  • +1

So could I connect a secondary Optus NBN25 account. Keep it for 3 months and get a $350 visa egift? Which I can then use to pay my primary, non-optus NBN connection.

    • Pretty sure they'll want to activate the service on your NBN line, and pretty sure you can only have one active service on it, so that would cancel your current service if I'm not mistaken?

      • FTTP NTD have 4 ports. Up to 4 connections subject to bandwidth limitations.

  • +5

I did this last week. Despite my misgivings Optus has been great so far, churned within 1 hour, same ping as I was getting on Swoop and ~400Mbps download during peak

One thing, you will have to stay for 120 days, not 90 days. Optus will charge you for the full billing cycle so if you cancel on day 91 you still have to stay until the end of the month

    • Should be fine if you activate the service in March as there will be two months with 31 days, so if you activate on 1st Mar and cancel on 30th May that's already 91 days and still have 1 day left on your 3rd billing month.

      • how do you specify activation date when signing up?

    • +1

Also forgot to add, I don't have CGNAT on my connection which was a pleasant surprise

    • Do they ban pirated websites?

      • +2

Not on Optus but usually you can bypass by changing your dns server

      • +1

Handful of sites are blocked yes. Telstra and Optus are the only ones that do that, I believe of the ISPs

  • This sounds like a fantastic deal, thanks OP :)

  • as a decade long Optus HCF customer… don't do it.

I left around about a year and half and loving it.

The terms and conditions like month to. month billing, not day to day, Even the discount they give you is time bound so you have to call them up to get the same discount again… just save the time.

  • I have tried previously with Dodo and eToro. It doesn't track! It still just says calculating.

    • +2

should say pending on your finder account under rewards, remains that way until eligibility check (90 days or whatever the terms are of the deal you signed up to), if you are having any issues with tracking you can ask finder on live chat to look into it

  • +10

Suffer 3 months with optus for $350 hmmmm

  • +2

I applied for the Finder $100 Optus Sim card promotion.

Do they limit how many bonus gift cards one can get? I dont see in the TCs but I may have missed…

    • +1

it says "A Finder member may receive up to a maximum of 2 Rewards for successful purchases of an eligible handset and mobile plan and/or an eligible broadband plan and/or an eligible prepaid plan"

      • Well that pretty clearly answers the question, thank you.

    • +2

Me too. Would like to confirm/know, please. Finder reports my $100 reward is still pending.

    • +2

you can get the nbn deal & the sim deal

Limited to 1 Reward per Finder member per eligible product purchase

A Finder member may receive up to a maximum of 2 Rewards for successful purchases of an eligible handset and mobile plan and/or an eligible broadband plan and/or an eligible prepaid plan

  • +2

Did anyone received the gift card from this deal?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/934153

    • +1

Last deal had an issue with BYO modem. Is that still the case or can we BYO modem?

      • +2

        Yes BYO plan is eligible

  • Paying $75 for leaptel, might make the switch as it ends this month. Previously been with optus and no issues with speed although they just dont negotiate when the promo price is ending.

    • If you have a sign up discount with Leaptel you can go on their live chat and ask if they'll extend it for you. They added another 6 months on mine. The price of the plans had changed since I'd signed up so I did have to upgrade to the new pricing. So the discounted price did go up, probably the same situation you're in. I was paying $74.95 but now $82.95 with the discount.

I'm hoping Leaptel will continue extending the discount when it ends again as I'm happy with the speed and service instead of going down the constant churning route. I do find it annoying that churning is the way to save money these days and there is no cost benefit staying with one provider.

      • I was with leaptel for more than 2 years. They used to be able to just offer new customer pricing for another 12 months, but then that became $5 more than new customer pricing last year when I asked. Eventually I left for a cashback offer from amaysim (it’s so bad I would probably never touch amaysim or even Optus nbn again for any offer)z When I tried to return, they contacted me and said they could only offer me 8mths of the promo since I wasn’t away for 12 months despite sign up page didn’t really say anything about that. I ended up going with the new origin nbn deal.

  • +1

Love their bundle bonus on 500/50. $30 more than the $79 deal for a $20 credit towards streaming services…

I'm most likely gonna give the $79 plan a go for the VISA card reward though, good timing.

  • +1

$79/mth for first 12 months, then $99/mth or as notified. Ends 25 Feb 2026. New services only. Not available with Bundle Bonus. $385 min. total cost.

    Why?

    • +1

      why what?

      • +1

That’s shown on their deception. So do I have to spend $385?

    • +1

That's if you use their modem

    • why does this post say 90 days and the finder website says 12 months?

  • When is this offer expire?

    • +6

VISA card reward from Finder expires 31/03. Optus 500/50 for $79 expires on 25/02.

  • +1

I’m waiting for my gift card from last deal, when does it get sent? After
    the 4th month mark?

    • +2

eligibility check 90 days from activation, gift card up to 90 days from eligibility check, but should come much sooner

  • +2

Should i sign up to finder first before clicking the link? or can i just input my email when i click 'go to site'?

    • +2

best sign up first, verify account, then sign up to optus through finder

  • frustrating not allowing me to check out and need to online chat on optus

  • i use 5G home internet, thinking of just signing up to the $59 plan, but not using it. hmmm

    • +1

I signed up to launtel to get HFC installed at my place. You pay per day, so when I need a fast connection for the day, I unpause it.

      $100 lays me a year.

You can sign up with a referral and get 7 days free I think. Then just put $10 credit in your account.

      • Yeh i am on launtel lol.

But was thinking of switching to this and the switch back after payout

    • on this post it says 90 days to get reward but on the finder website it says 12 months…which is it?

  • Ineligibility: You are a current or recent Optus customer (within 30 days) and applying for an Optus NBN plan.

So if you have an Optus Mobile plan you are ineligible?

    • Definitely eligible, have passed on to finder they will update that too :

“You are a current or recent Optus NBN customer (within 30 days) and applying for an Optus NBN plan.”

  • Any holes in my plan to sign my wife up to Optus, as I am the primary and only name on our current optus plan?

    • Not sure but could be ineligible if you’re using the same service address

  • Is this also for fttn connections?

  • If i got transferred and connected to Optus today, what date would I be able to trace $350?

And on what day is the fund available?

    • eligibility check 90 days from activation, gift card up to 90 days from eligibility check, but should come much sooner

  • Anyone know if Optus have an option to choose a date to activate my service once I sign up?

    • Keen to know this too

  • +1

My experience with Optus back in the day when I had their Cable internet still leaves a sour taste. Just utterly dysfunctional. I was in no way surprised by their data breach.
Prior to the breach (2018 I think) for about about 3 months when I logged into my 'My Optus' account, I saw someone else's mobile account details and billing. I reported it, and nothing happened. Their technical support was pathetic. Internet not working? Oh well….. When the NBN rolled out to my area in 2021 I jumped ship as fast as I could.

  • Is NBN100/18 eligible for the $350 promotion?

    • it is, but it wouldn't make sense to choose that, as 500/43 is the same price $79

      • No fibre available

        • If you're on FttC/FttN request a free upgrade (will happen anyway when ordering a 500Mbps speed tier).
All FttC/FttN services will be switched off eventually anyway, and moved to FttP (full fibre).
If on HFC the 100Mbps has already moved to 500Mbps.

  • Why doesnt the minimum cost match any of the details of the offer?

Take the 500/50 plan for $79…
    - Minimum cost is $385.

    But:
    $0 Setup Fee
    $0 BYO modem fee
    $0 delivery fee
    $306 Optus Modem
$79 monthly cost for the first 12 months
    $99 (or advertised) ongoing

The minimum cost seems to assume you need to purchase their modem

    • +1

Under 2. Do you need a modem with your plan? you need to select "No(bring your own)" tab

  • +1

Great.. Just changed to Optus and Finder confirmed… 91 days and will see . .ArcTel has been good tho
"Thanks for supporting our Optus reward offer.
I can confirm that we have recorded your click to our promo link. Please ensure you meet the TCs until the fulfilment date."

    • Heads up, Arctel have a 30 day cancellation notice period. So send them an email to start your 30 days from today

      • +4

Or exercise your consumer rights and demand a refund under ACL for unused days.

    • I got the finder email saying I clicked on the link but can’t find the text you quoted? Is that received once the Optus connection is complete?

      • Me too, first time using Finder

  • Just joined a week, My exp with Optus is all my streaming websites got blocked by their DNS. Only way to access those streaming websites are through VPn. Once I passed 90days I’ll switch to other carriers.

Never had issues with other carriers, such as spintel, tangerine, superloop.

    • +4

Smart enough to use VPN but not enough to change DNS
