I asked this question here 5 years ago, and this video today made me wonder whether we, as a community, are still buying the same brands (if you think the video is "aI sLOp", don't watch it; it's not central to the poll and discussion). Back then the full cream homebrands were the undisputed winners (though aggregating them like that sorta gave them an unfair advantage), followed by A2 and Norco (which incidentally is the brand most recommended by that video). At our house, we try to get unpasteurised, unhomogenised, grassfed organic Jersey, which turns out to be either Norco or Barambah (not unpasteurised, ofc), and an eventual naughty splurge of raw Cleopatra.

Be careful with that YT channel
I was watching the bread one and ingredient claims that they made weren't even true (I looked up the ingredients myself). Most said 3rd ingredient was sugar, but it actually isn't
Side note, Pauls milk will be different in other states (Masters here, for instance)

That one just comes across like an AI click-farm channel

Got a feeling the guy using em dashes in ozb comments may be also be using AI to generate controversial comments for whatever reason.

@ginormousgiraffe: Just FYI, markdown automatically corrects typing 2 dashes
--into an em dash —So that method is not reliable for identifying AI generated comments
looking at the channel's upload frequency, (almost once per day) and the usage of AI generated video thumbnails it's pretty much given whoever runs the channel is using it for content farming. you have to upload very frequently to satisfy the YT algorithm.
I doubt anyone can maintain quality when you have to upload everyday, not even someone like Linus Tech Tips (who is now a large company with more than 100 employees) can push out that much content.

Very different content. And, yeah, they probably use AI. So what? Who doesn't? We can each judge for ourselves whether the content adds us value or not.
Well, I don't use AI on a daily basis.
And yes, some of us are judging for themselves and are commenting on it- are they not allowed to in 'your' thread?
If someone is uploading once a day, the content cannot by any means be high quality content (well, unless it was cat videos).
The amount of work that goes into a well researched and well produced video is bonkers. There's a great channel called Kurtzgesatz where they cover science topics aimed for kids and general consumption. They made an entire video about how many man hours goes into a single production-300-400 man hours to make a 15 minute video. This is going to be at the far end as they research exhaustively and have animators, but even for a lower quality but non-garbage video it's going to be days of shooting and editing.

@rumblytangara: Plenty of channels stream daily. And they're not AI! Just different strokes for different folks.

Just FYI, markdown automatically corrects typing 2 dashes — into an em dash —
Probably shouldn't type two dashes in succession then…

@smartazz104: Unrestricted freedom of movement. Last time that happened the (attempted restriction) people weren't happy.
You want those dashes to protect their borders and apply for passports or something?

Just FYI, markdown automatically corrects typing 2 dashes — into an em dash —
Yeah, but what sort of flog double hyphens? It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good indicator someone is using Chat GPT to write if they include a lot of em dashes.

what sort of flog double hyphens?
I do. More often than not, I just long press hyphen, 'cause that's what works everywhere else.
What sort of flog copy-pastes replies back and forth into ChatGPT on a menial discussion forum?

@wisdomtooth: The sort who follows AI slop videos on youtube and the reposts them as a desperate desire for even a skerrick of social interaction?

@wisdomtooth: Five years ago you didn't even capitalise the first letters of your lists. Quite the improvement!

@ginormousgiraffe: As you can see, mostly all options on that poll were added by users other than myself, but yeah, I asked Gemini to give me the list this time — the horror 🙄

They're selling their guide, and also campaigning for Australian businesses. Regardless of how they come across, you can take the info they give FWIW to you.

@wisdomtooth: I did take the info. Found mistakes in their content, so chose not to watch any more of their videos

@spackbace: Fair enough. I take the good, the bad and the ugly, and keep the info that adds value to me, rather than chasing a source to trust. Sometimes, it's just about prompting me to think through something that's been left unchecked for a while (like what milk to buy? for 5 years).

@wisdomtooth: If you acknowledge that some of the information is incorrect, then why link to the channel 3 times?
If there's 1 thing that the last few years have shown us, it's that misinformation should be ruled out and averted as much as possible, which includes not sharing a source which you doubt that accuracy of

@wisdomtooth: So you think everything that channel says is accurate?
Purposely sharing inaccurate information = misinformation

@wisdomtooth: As spackbace has already pointed out the content is either inaccurate / misinformation.
If you don't trust what the media writes, how can you trust a totally unknown individual who makes money off AI generated content? We have proper consumer advocate groups like Choice (although they will charge money for their content)
The owner of that content farm might own several other channels in other languages, they might not even be Australian

Worse than that, the channel now links to scam purchases for "e-books" worth $18,000 (apparently) but for the low low price of $27USD.

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Built up the channel with enough reach etc to be able to
Textbook scammy behaviour that shouldn't be shared

@spackbace: Tbh, it puts me off too, but that's not scamming; it's just bottom of the barrel marketing.

@wisdomtooth: How do you know?
Have you purchased the $27USD "e" book?
Did you ever receive it?
Have you reviewed its contents?

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Are you saying there's nothing in it? I assume it has the same content as in the videos. Of course I didn't pay for it! 😆

I'm sceptical of every source—always double, triple check everything
And then shares the ai slop video anyway
users who continually watch, engage with, and share ai slop garbage are just adding to how truly brain dead content continues to grow

On the upside, the more incorrect information that gets regurgitated means the longer it will take for confidence in ai ability which means preservation of jobs vulnerable to ai will be longer.
If they can keep camouflaging the facts forever, then limited jobs be lost to ai.
Following that, I say vote for excessive use of AI, particularly by those who could pass themselves off as numpties.
Less competition for those who don't use Ai making it easier for them to rise to the top whilst standing on the proverbial jugular of those dependent on AI.

anything on youtube you should immediately doubt … remember they are getting paid for views

29 videos in a month - it's just lazy clickbait AI trash.

Looking at the title wording and thumbnails on that channel, it is solely a clickbait channel. Are the claims made on it accurate? Who knows. The creators can't even be bothered creating their own content.

the channel doesn't exactly convey authenticity, but it sounds to me like you're judging the book by its cover
It's the onus of the person attempting to persuade, to be persuasive. Part of that is proving your expertise, trustworthiness, and authenticity.
But I guess this isn't a person so…

AI slop.

I only buy milk if it is full cream and on clearance for ~$1 for 2L.

This shrimp isn't frozen! And it smells funny!

OP is this your youtube channel? You've spruiked it three times now

Lol, they don't have any info at all, they have LLM outputs that they are digital human centipeding directly into your open mouth/ears/brain.

Yesterday, Coles near me had 2L Coles Full Cream Milk for $1.
Good times, unless you are a Cow.

How long was the use by?
I bought 2L for $1 on Saturday, use by was for yesterday but it’s still good today.
Bought 1/3 use by 3/3
Doable

Cow don't have to work harder because Coles decreases their price.

why cant i choose a few?

No difference buying Coles/Woolworths/Aldi milk vs the more expensive branded ones. So homebrand all the way.

I thought about this too. That’s why I’m here, wondering what people are buying. I used to get an organic brand, not listed here and my family can’t tell the difference… i could only tell the difference between the taste for some brands. The non homogenised milk tastes really good! Not certain about homebrands yet. Still trying all sorts of brands now, maybe homebrand next.

I used to get an organic brand, not listed here and my family can’t tell the difference
Was the organic choice about taste for you, not health?

Health first, taste second. The big price gap also annoys me when I really don’t know if it is actually healthier. Maybe I need to do more research 🤭
Suggested Coles Lactose Free Long Life Full Cream MilkNot many options for boxed long life plain/lacfree milk.

You can add them in, but I'd highly recommend considering not consuming UHT milk.

proximity to shops does not always allow fresh milk purchase, consume it when I can but rely on boxed for convenience.

but I'd highly recommend considering not consuming UHT milk.
Why?

Bc they're denatured (completely stripped of lactoferrin, for instance). They're basically dead.

@wisdomtooth: Doesn’t appear to be anything significant to be concerned about . Less than 1% of total protein and readily available in other sources both natural and supplements.
Anything else?

@Muppet Detector: You do you, mate. If you're happy with guiding your nutrition by macronutrients alone, go right ahead.

@wisdomtooth: I'm asking if there are any other losses. That one doesn't bother me for the back up cow in the cupboard. You seem to be in the know about this stuff, didn't think that'd make you feisty.

A2 lactose

No option for own brand?
I just buy the own brand (cheapest) one when I'm at Coles, Woolsworth, Aldi, IGA or 7/11.
No loyal to milk brand or supermarket.
Can't really taste the difference anyway.

*homebrand?
They're here already split by chain, but you can add a generic homebrand like last poll, if you like.

But I buy about 5 different homebrands, depending on which shop I am at the time.
Suggested Riverina Fresh Skim MilkI buy either the above or Dairy Farmers Skim Milk - whichever one has the longest use by date.

This, except full cream. Usually Riverina, because it is almost always had a much longer expiry. But recently Dairy Farmers has been beating it.

MILKAPIG

Does Chocolate Milk come from Brown Cows?
(Asking for a friend) lol
Yes. And mushroom stew from mooshrooms.

There won't be mush room where she's going!
Suggested Cows MilkWhat Milk Do You Buy?
Cows Milk…. All the others are fake milk

Goat?

Better than the fake milks but still not what you would call 'milk' as such.

Try Bonsoy.
It's Japanese, so it tastes way better than cow nipple fluid. Doesn't have that nasty sour taste.
And it's way better than cow nipple fluid in coffee, while also having much less saturated fat, so it's less risky long-term in terms of heart disease and cardiovascular disease. For some reason it tastes creamier while also having less fat. No unnatural ingredients. No added vegetable oil.
By the way, cow's milk sold in the supermarket is very different from what comes out of the cow's nipple. It's been heated to kill bacteria, homogenised to stop the fat separating, and finally standardized to a constant fat level and to achieve the same taste every time.

It's probably unethical to sell stuff that might poison a person who isn't aware of the risks.
If it's not illegal, definitely sounds like the potential for a lawsuit.

@Muppet Detector: Food goes bad?? 🤯
That aside, raw milk contamination is only a problem in factory farming—that's why it's made illegal; so small dairy farmers can't bypass dairy aggregators.

All true, but there are options: plenty of brands offer unhomogenised versions, also from grass fed jersey cows, and some stores sell "bath milk" (i.e. unpasteurised). And also true that Bonsoy is the best soy milk (non-GMO for starters), but that's a non sequitur:
It's Japanese, so it tastes way better than cow nipple fluid.
And that's a total myth promoted by the sugar industry, and busted decades ago:
having much less saturated fat, so it's less risky long-term in terms of heart disease and cardiovascular disease.

@wisdomtooth: I can't remember if this is one of the conspiracy theory threads and I can't be bothered looking so I'm just going to go with
ummm, okay.
My father sold his father's dairy farm when grandpa died, so admittedly I don't know much about the day to day workings of a dairy farm, but that whole "block the little guy" schtick seems a bit sketchy to me.
If that was their intention, they would do it for other products as well.

cow nipple fluid
You know the milk comes from mammary glands right? It isn't "nipple fluid".

Strawberry milk is my favourite. You saying its not made of real strawberries?

sigh
Cows can't eat strawberries. The pink colour in your strawberry milk is from the farmer's pants. Slang for farms is Cocha. So as the farmer starts to stand up, he scrapes the dirt off the knees of his pants.
Yonks ago, a farmhand was just checking up on his Concha and sang out, Cochineal cobba?
And that's where the cochineal comes from that makes the milk n your milkshake look and taste like strawberries.

Need to have other. SA has a stack of brands not listed.
SADA, Fleurieu, Tweedvale, Adelaide Hills/Paris Creek, Golden North, Pura (now back at Salisbury), then local Drakes, etc

Add them in!

I drink Malk (because of its Vitamin R benefits)

I just want milk that tastes like real milk…..

I want a Milk that tastes like a 1955 Grange.

Then buy raw (e.g. Cleopatra). Preferably directly from farmers. We had milk delivered by a farmer in Gympy, and it was so real it smelled of cow dung 😁

You like drinking dung-scented milk?

If you drank milk at a farm, you know that's what it smells like bc that's what cows generally smell like. And if they eat well — grass, not grains — it's not too bad.

@wisdomtooth: How many cows have you smelled in your life and were you alone when you did it?
Also, cows have frequent baths and how many grain fed dairy cows do you know?
That's the other brand we buy.
