          It’s not on my travel list personally but I’d seen talk of people actually using a wiped back up phone for US travel, either restoring from an online backup on the ground or then just using it while on the trip and then taking photos etc off at end of trip.

                    Wildly misinterpreting reality seems more accurate.

                    The documents in those twitter posts do indeed appear real. They are just bland formalities, completely void of content, and about 40 steps removed from the conclusions being made.

                    Edit: not trying to nitpick. I was just expecting outright lies with fabricated evidence. Instead its outright lies with real documents, and a heavy assumption that the audience will not bother reading them and are functionally illiterate.

                      @crentist: I know a lot of this is outright mis / disinformation, but I do think the word 'unsubstantiated' remains fair game if the material in question does not sufficiently substantiate the claim being made. Just because something is genuine, doesn't mean it has enough substance to back the conclusion being drawn, as you yourself already highlighted.

    I just came back from the US and it was great! Didn't see any of the crap you see on the news / socials and because of the issues people think is happening all across the country, it was quite dead for the most part compared to how it would've been 10+ years ago.

      I just cancelled my trip to the US.

      I think most people aren't scared, they just don't want to support the US under the current administration. It's not "the media" that's the problem. Threatening to invade an ally is objectively bad.

      That said, I am scared of spending 15hr on a flight, only to have a border agent take a look through my phone and see a comment like this one, then send me on a 15hr flight back. I know it's very unlikely, but that sounds like hell to me.

          It's also not the only reason I'll be rejected. When I applied for ETSA, it requested all of my social media profile links, for them to be public, and my email addresses.

            @BestTechAdvisor: Please stop lying. I'm travelling to US for work in June, applied my ETSA late last year. No requirement for public social media. Was optional to provide social media during the application which was exactly the same as was required in 2010! Also had to provide biometrics upon entry in 2010. If you don't want to support the current administration, no problem, but stop lying. The misinformation is wild!

      your right, the media on both sides hype it up because it's good for the news business. When Trump was banging on about the LA riots last year, a mate sent me photos, it was a few hundred mostly peaceful protesters outside a couple of buildings in a city block, with a few idiots trying to get their face in the news, I've seen worse scenes at a suburban footy match.

      It's a pity, just like China, Israel/Middle.East, etc, people equate govt to the people..It's not the case. People are people and most people are wonderful when you get to know them.
