  • Thanks OP, I wish they lasted longer but these make handy school shoes for the young fella - $42.75 hard to pass up

  • Are they actually good for running in?

    • +1

I'm far from a real runner, but they are quite nice for casual running.
I have a proper pair of gel Kayanos and they are obviously far better, but these shoes are perfect for that middle ground of not wanting to wreck your expensive shoes doing something that isn't clean tarmac running, but also wanting something more than whatever flat sole shoes you have.

At $45 they are in dunlop volley territory, so they are get treated (abused) the same way but have an actual heel.

I don't rate them for running. It feels thin so does not offer the support and cushioning of Kayanos. Also the insole doesn't come up at the arch so my feet can feel the edge of the insole. I had to swap insoles with the Kayanos to make it feel better.

Entry level .. good compared to what.
These used to go for ~$30 on old eBay deals.

Would be fine for knock abouts and for kids.

Thanks OP. Would have preferred the full black ones but $43 is pretty hard to pass up especially as its so hard to find in stock size 14/15 for cheap

  • The sole fell off my old pair after 3 years, literally yesterday.
    Thanks OP!

    • Did you use it solely for running? =)

      • That's their main Feeture.

But nah it was the driving range that finally killed them.

    • If you give it to your kid he’ll be the sole inheritor

Are these any good for walking? Have a Japan trip coming up. None of us walk much in daily life (Less than 2k steps usually) and have been told to prepare for 20k steps each day, so am seeking opinions.

Start going on walks every afternoon or morning. Start 15 minutes and go up from there. If you are currently doing less than 2k steps a day, you are almost guaranteed to get blisters if you don't do some prep. Try out your current shoes, they are probably fine as long as they aren't thongs or dress shoes.

        Appreciate the advice mate.
Will get the family on to it from tomorrow. Bonus extra family time chats while out and about. Honestly, this will be the first time we'll 'prepare' for a holiday but I hear Japan will not dissapoint.

Yes, you're looking at over 10k steps per day, easy. Theme parks like Disney and USJ you will have to walk all day also. I averaged over 17k a day over 19 days, went with wife and 3 kids under 11. I average 8k to 10k a day in Australia.

Every foot is different. This website is pretty good at covering most scenarios. Has buying guides and pretty in depth reviews/testing.

Affer reading a bunch of reviews before my Japan trip, I ended up buying ~$2k worth of shoes
About 7 or 9 pairs from Athlete's Foot, wearing them on WFH days and only keeping the Cloudmonster 2 and Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24.

Only took Cloudmonster 2 to Japan, they were great in terms of comfort, but durability ain't great and they do squeak when I walk now 😔

Returned the rest within 30 days.

Note I think ASICS are relatively cheap over there being Japanese so you could even buy over there? Enjoy your trip!

      • Thanks mate.
        I'll check these out tomorrow.

      • ASICS in terms of durability is not the best as well. I prefer Nike where durability is important, they last noticeably longer.

    • +2

yeah, honestly would get that step count up first.

Then go visit an ASICS Walking while in Tokyo for something a bit different. They can do a whole foot/gait analysis thing for you and recommend a shoe based off that. Ofc you can do that here too but that's not as fun. I know Hoka has something similar in the bigger stores over there, the other brands probably do too.

      • That Asics store sounds epic. Thanks for the tip mate.

  • Thanks ordered. 45$ without the plus subscription.

  • Thanks! bought a couple for the kids!

  • For ACT people they had these at the outlet for $45 and were spruiking 40% off footwear last weekend.

  • I don't think my foot is wide, will gibe these a miss, wish they had standard
