  • Any feedback?

  • And yet a 1.5 hr flight from Melb to Syd costs $400. How??

      It's called a Duopoly.

    • Supply and demand.

You can also fly from Shanghai to Bangkok (5 hours) for $150 on multiple airlines which I discovered while mapping out a trip.

    • 16h layovers

    • there are currently jetstar $110 return flights melb sydney in june. you are comparing regular to sale prices

      • Yeah probably 6am flight for that price. No thanks.

      • I havent looked at those, but every jetstar sale seems to be "cheap price at 6am, but 3x that during the day". Supply and demand sure.. but in the old days, the sales used to be available almost any time covering a whole week.

We did fly with Hainan Airlines. It is really good compare to Southern and Eastern Airlines. They also gave us amenity kits (eye cover, earbuds, socks and toothbrush/toothpaste). Food and drinks are acceptable.

    • @kollier in which city they stop over ? Thx

    • what sort of food do you they give you?

how acceptable is it compared to jetstar food?

      • They got Western Food (smash potato with beef/sausage with potato vegetable) and Asian food (chicken rice/noodle with chicken). Definitely better than Jetstar. Yes, we did layover at Haikou.
I tried Eastern and Southern before. I will choose Hainan if possible for sure.

Btw, I click the link above and only showing China Air, Eastern Airlines and Southern Airlines. I could not see any Hainan Airlines, did I miss something here?

  • These are cheaper than domestic flights. Crazy!

That's what you get when the shytty 'flag carrier' gets preferential treatments and government bailouts while bullying any small competitor until they go bankrupt. So there is effectively only 1 major airline and 1 that sort of kind of competes on some routes.

      • what airlines are you talking about?

  • If overnight layover, is accommodation included, I heard that China Southern provides that?

  • we are spoiled for choice

  • Any suggestion on top places to visit in China other then Beijing or Shanghai?

    • Depends what you like.

Xi'An was ok, more modern and cityish than Beijing, felt like real people lived there rather than just massive tourist sites and drab grey brick buildings.

Qingdao is a bit different, it's on the coastline, and has heavy german influence due to occupation, so it's basically Europe in China.

I am giving china one more try in a month as I hated it last year, but the above places were bearable. I am also going to try Chengdu this year for the slower pace of life and great food, supposedly.

    • Chengdu province is the best natural mountain view. And u can meet Kung Fu Panda.

Tali is somewhere you can ride horses on green plain.

Or Harbin is northern part of China for Ice and Snow World plus Snow Village (book a car n driver for day trip), you can add Yabuli for Snowy Mountain trip (Sun Mountain)

Hainan Island (First timer just go to Haikou for 1 night and Sanya the rest area) for resort and snorkling/diving.

  • Trip.com app has a $75 off promo for hainan airline.
