Yep! (profanity) the USA! Seriously I’d rather poke my eyes out than visit that shit hole of a country

  • +2

Does it include 2 weeks free stop over to mysterious tropical remote lands inclusive of accommodation in the golag.

A holiday you'll genuinely never forget

Epstein Island? Or is that only reserved for the President of the United States?

thats actually good for business class return. Air NZ business class does kind of suck though so the cheaper price makes sence.

    • +1

having just returned from the US via Air NZ, in business, keen to understand this comment more - please share your experience.

i choose to fly via AKL to East (and mid-US) cities, while adding more transit time which is a pain but service is superior — much greater transparency when delayed, the in-app experience is better (navigation), seamless check in & pragmatic carryon policy, hard product & meals are much better than competitors on same route

      • +4

The seating configuration on Air NZ is where the widespread criticism comes from.. Their new product looks great, but hasn't rolled out everywhere yet unfortunately. The existing product where people are facing the aisle / each other is definitely behind most other business products and why lots avoid them.

        • i recommend you try Qatar Airways or Emirates business class then come back to me as to why Air NZ isn't as good. I have make a few trips to dubai with these airlines and 14 hours in there business class is like a dream so much room to move around and sleep and just all the special touchs you get, its just the best business class experience you will ever get. If you experience the same thing on other airlines it would be first class.

          • @kungfuman: It's great that you love the Air NZ product, though the fact of the matter is that many do not because of the seating config. This is a recurring theme from those who have flown it, people who have reviewed it, and many YouTube videos etc asking if this is the worst BC product solely because of the seating config..

Edit: Whoops - Realised you are not the person who was voting for Air NZ. My bad!

          • -1

@kungfuman: Some people would prefer their money to go to the flag carrier of a friendly nation not a government of extremely questionable qualities like Qatar.

            • +2

@sheikyerbouti: I actually don't give a sh$% about politics i would much rather get what I want over who ever owns the airline.

            • @sheikyerbouti: If you truly cared you wouldn't be going to the US to begin with :)

            • @sheikyerbouti: Hahahaha you are in a thread talking Abbott flying to the USA…. A bit more responsible for war crimes and the deaths of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions since WW2…… love the irony thought 😂

          • @kungfuman: This thread is about NZ going to LA. NZ isn't competing with those ultra long haul carriers, is Qatar & Emirates exceptional? yeah, and it's reflective in their price given newer, better ultra long range fleet (thus hard product).

          • @kungfuman: Buddy, there is no way you are biased enough to think that anything on Air NZ will be as good as the Q suite experience.

            • @jaygee: yep true but for the price you can't really complain lol.

              • @kungfuman: No, I upvoted this deal because its a great deal - I would take it if I needed it.

I remember when I got a stunning deal on Qatar from Jo'burg to Melbourne, $2,200 one way. Economy was $1,500 one way, so it was a steal in comparison.

        • there's a small part of the fleet, specifically the 777 where the diagonal layout is awkward - the ex-Cathay fleet is perfectly fine, even better in biz-premier (CX old 1st class), the Dreamliner is great and even the diagonal system works - again the package about food/on ground experience and their core route competitors - NZ wins.

The caveat to the experience is clearly choosing flights on the right aircraft - and as I've experienced - bloody changes mid-trip given the Rolls Royce fiasco. Stack the economics vs offering, coupled with *A perks, much prefer it to the competitors - QF/AA/UA and even AC.

      • -1

even fiji airways business class via Nadi to the US is better

  • +14

As tempting as businesses class is, as an ozbargainer, I would rather put up with economy and spend more money on a nicer hotel. There isn’t much you can do on a plane

    • +1

For a flat bed, iirc, people can also just pay for additional economy seats on AirNZ.

    • +2

Yep. It's essentially paying $4000 for one hotel.

Pretty insane when you think of it that way. I'd be fine sleeping in a shitty hotel/hostel 1 night to save $4000.

People are illogical though and for some reason think because it's part of a trip all of a sudden the cost is fine.

      • Most or many business class flyers hop into a taxi when they land. And very often on domestic trips you’d spend more time in the stinky taxi (x2) than in the air. You can get a limo for about $50 more vs $???!!! for business class.

        What do companies prohibit: limos

    • Black car to the airport, get in a lounge, splurge on in-flight, get someone to carry your bags (in Asia), pay for VIP immigration, pay for good seats etc. Bring a thick, dense memory foam cushion.

i.e I find it’s good to fly LCC economy but turn off the tight-ass mentality for everything else for the journey. Makes a huge difference to comfort for the tiniest fraction of the cost of business.

    • +1

The real difference of business class vs econ? Jet lag. I had like 70% less jet lag when flying business class, allows me to get stuck into wherever I want. Plus better food/drinks/screen/service etc.

As an ozbargainers, this is a deal vs $12k on Qantas.

  • Do they have the new business class installed on their planes yet?

  • +6

    Vancouver instead please.

    • Fiji Airways have 1-2 sale tickets for June-July at around $6500ea. I'm not sure about other dates as I was looking for myself, though noticed these fares to YVR drop (from around 8-8.5k) over the weekend.

      • Do you have a link to this 1-2 sale? Is that a 2 for 1 kind of deal? Can't see anything on their website.

        • I've been messing around with dates departing SYD -> YVR late June, and returning mid to late July. Google flights is currently showing $6,555 on Fiji Airways for a single passenger. $13,119 for 2. Once I increase it to 3 pax (which is what I need) the price goes up substantially.

This is using the 'Cheapest' option on Google Flights, so would be through one of the online travel agencies rather than direct through Fiji Airways.

I think is the one with the weird configuration right? It's not for everyone.

I cannot believe we live in a world where someone earned a lot of money to come up with this idea

      • +2

And then others who earned a lot of money for approving this.

    • Its weird, but you can pack more sardines in that way.

    • Yep it's that - it's a 15-20 year old style of seating. Virgin Atlantic had something similar for a while too.

I think Air NZ has a new slightly better biz seat, but it only goes to Vancouver for now and not planned for LA which is weird.

  • +4

    Weird AF seats

  • Free flight to Uganda once you arrive at the airport. Great deal.

  • +1

very poor if not the worst business class i have ever flown. Seat config like copies from a cow house where cows are facing each other and no privacy. Very very strange…. i would not pay cash for such flights only miles

    • Don't know why you'd get negged for what is a valid comment. You're referencing the legacy J class configuration but they're rolling out the new product across the widebody fleet (albeit not quickly enough).

    • Air NZ are milking you of your money.

    • It's affectionately dubbed coffin class because it resembles open casket coffins when everyone is reclined.

  • 6k and you only get to the west coast. If the boss is paying, who cares, but if this is for leisure I say fly cattle class or premium & spend the difference living it up L'Ermitage or The Peninsula for a few days…you'll soon forget the 14hr flight.

    • +1

Totally agree. I used to get flown overseas business class in my old job but then things got tight so they flew us economy instead. Whilst I liked the perks of business, I would never pay for it myself, and definitely not at todays prices. I can fly economy on ANZ return Adelaide to LA for $1500 in July instead of $6600. Regardless of configuration. paying an extra $5000 for some minor extra comfort is not a bargain. As others have said, get a limo with booze to the airport, pay for extra baggage if you must, pay for the airport lounge if you must (mind, they are pretty average imho compared to the good old days), slum it in economy, catch another limo to a fancy $1000+ hotel room for 1 night and you already have an extra $3000 to $4000 in you pocket to spend on other s**t you don't need. Sorry but these days business class flights are an "experience" but never a bargain. If jet lag is a problem, leave a day earlier (with no pay if you have to) and you are still ahead.

That said, I have no issue with this post if people are after a cheaper than Qantas "experience", but for me personally, I would never pay for business class travel myself, not today, it has absolutely no value.

  • Air NZ also messed up their Premium Economy seats a decade or so ago. How are these guys so bad.

  • -2

How is business class flights ever considered a "bargain" on this site when you should be flying economy every time given it's a site for tightarses saving every dime. People posting "GOOD DEAL" here are the same ones posting "RIP OFF CAN SAVE 50C IF PRICE MATCH AT OFFICE WORKS"…. give me a break.

maybe we all just grew up here, got older with jobs and have outgrown this site - we can now afford all these things and just visit for nostalgia purposes?

  • Just 6052$ more than my budget.
