does it come with a side of "sell your data and compromise your account"?

    • Can you take a cover in your spouse's name who were covered in the previous cover closed within the last 12m and be eligible for SUB?

      • Same question. Does anyone know?

    • +1

just so you are aware appears to be limited to Hospital cover only so if you are with AHM for extras like me it's fine.
below is from the linked offer page directly under the table showing points per spend.
Must be a new Medibank member who has not held Medibank or ahm hospital cover in the last 12 months and hold the same eligible cover for 90 consecutive days to be eligible for the Velocity Points.

    • +1

If you churn often AHM is one of the few providers who have 1 July reset.

If your smart you can move between a calender year provider and financial year provider. This should have a 6 monthly reset instead of 12 months for extra.

May not work if your currently claiming private health.

Medibank like to place terms across the entire page.

  • and no free weeks like the other promos

    • "To receive 6 weeks free and up to 130,000 Velocity Point"

Seems you do op just didn't put it in the title

      • My bad…it's in there. Have a plus vote Op.

        Has been missing previously.

Fixed, thanks for the notes! Feel free to use the report button next time and MODs can also adjust OzB posts

  • +7

the weekly premium levels kill the deal unless you are going to get a heavy duty cover regardless. not for the average person

  • Is it ever possible to stack these offers with cashback / Compare the Market?

  • +1

What do the 2025 dates mean in yhe T&Cs?

    • -1

My bad. That was me being lazy and copying the previous deal description. I’ll get onto that today and update the post.

  • For 1 person the max i can get it to is $78 per week.

    • +1

The premiums are before any government rebate, you will need to adjust your calculations and see what the premium for the $78 per week is without the government rebate.

  • +1

Or you could buy 4 boxes of this for 2k and get 96000 QFF points.

After the recent change I find Qantas points basically useless. I used Qantas points heavily for my flight bookings in the past but I find the value isn’t there now

      • You’d have wine though, you can still find good uses for Qantas points just outside of Australia sadly.

    • Would rather wait for another Qantas point top up offer if going that route.

  • thanks I just left GMBHA after they did the big promotion of 6 weeks free back and bonus COVID weeks in 2024-2025

  • And the compromise of your data. What a deal

    • Explain!

    • Show me which company doesn't?
I'm not supporting it but you can't cherry pick which you like and hate for bad practices

  • +1

From T and C, you maintain direct debit and hold eligible cover for 42 consecutive days from the policy start date. After that, you get 6 weeks free (42 days). In order to get velocity points, you need to stay 90 days. It means you need to stay one more week to get 90 days (42+42+7) days. Am I right? Thanks

    • +1

Yes, that's how it ha always been in the past.

  • +2

From what I can tell, for people wanting to churn (i.e. not caring about the actual policy benefits, claiming extras, tax savings etc except for the Live Better points), it's only worth it if you're going to use the Velocity Points for business class redemptions. Otherwise the velocity point value isn't there to break even with the cost of the premiums, and this includes redeeming the live better points for gift cards.
There is also a 10 business day notice period for cancelling a direct debit, so this could push the time you have to keep paying a little bit after the points hit your account.

    • I was doing some math for my personal situation:
If I am currently on a family insurance plan with say Bupa and paying ~ $50 a week, for 13 weeks(1 more week for direct debit cancellation) I will pay $700.
With 6 weeks free in the 14 weeks, I need to pay say $160 for 8 weeks, I pay $1280. So 130K points for $580. Not as good as recent credit card offers but worth it if you cannot churn your credit cards?

      • +1

For $50 a week, you will get 30k points.

  • +1

Speaking from experience of years of churning, I have to say that Medibank and Bupa are the absolute worst to deal with.

What you may gain in points, you will lose in time and nerves.

There is no point in joining Medibank if it is arduous to deal with. For this reason, I'm giving this 'bargain' a negative.

    • Any particular aspect of the process that made it bad? Have churned a fair few, but not with Medibank, and if painful would prefer to avoid.

      • +1

Anything requiring contact with an actual human.

        • +1

Have to agree. Their customer service can be awful. Some useless idiot working from home that says they will do something but doesn’t causing you to spend hours fixing it. Had a nightmare with them. The unstore reps are great tho.

  • Is it better not to claim rebate to get a higher point deal.

    • -3

Use a calculator and your brain.

    • Presuming you are in either the lowest bracket for single health cover or Family health cover the percentage rebate for private health insurance is 24%. A quick way to calculate what the weekly premium would be would be to divide the quoted premium by 0.76 and see what tier you end up in for the FF points.

Then you can do a comparison with paying 24% more in premiums versus the value of that extra FF points

      • -1

Actually after reading the entire TOS the value is before rebate. So it doesn't make a different before or after.

There are a lot of tos so l was double checking for any special terms such as having to have a min level which doesn't appear to be the case.

  • Max possible premium for singles is $127.78, so you're basically limited to 70k points by $2.22 lol.

It should be possible to get 100k points as a single after PHI premiums increase in March?

    • Have you tried to manipulate the hospital excess and extra cover percentage?

  • Damn! Signed up with the previous offer last week. I have to be on the Gold cover - could have gotten the maximum velocity points. Contacted Medibank and the response was more inline with "get lost". Wasn't even along the lines of sorry you missed out but we can't do much.

If you're on the fence about churning, DON'T! These companies don't deserve any loyalty.

  • Do I need the hospital cover as well or can I just sign up to the essential extras cover and use the promo code? I have a dentists appointment next Wednesday so need that wait time wavered. Thanks!

    • +1

Read the description (eligibility) of the promotion, the answer is right there.

      • Yeah that was my bad. Found the EXTRA6WEEKS promo for just the essential extras cover so that will do

  • anyone paying $130+ per week? seems really high even for a family

  • Thanks OP,
Some of us have some crappy genes so need to pay a bit more for piece of mind and treatment also for that mind so we need top hospital.
Following on from the October 2025 post which had the points incorrectly showing as being able to be claimed i am swapping to this from our NIB fund.

Currently paying per month $394.27 and with a comparison quote with Medibank at $569.43 but with 6 weeks free I will come out around around $150 ahead after 4 months.
Even if i miss changing back by a month I will still behead with 130,000 Velocity points in my pocket.

    APIA………………..Medibank

    February $394.27…$569.43
    March…. $394.27…$284.71
    April…… $394.27…$0.00
    May…… $394.27…$569.43

            $1,577.08 $1,423.57

  • I am looking to join the (Hospital Only) - Medibank Bronze Plus Support for couples. It roughly $52/week. So I am assuming I will be getting 30k Velocity points. Can I ask if I can get the 2 & 6 months waived? (if I only join the hospital-only cover). Sorry, I am new to insurance churning, I would like to do it more often as I have the same health insurance from the last 5-6 yrs.

    • Found my answer, 2 & 6 months waived are for extra only.

    • +1

Sorry, I am new to insurance churning, I would like to do it more often as I have the same health insurance from the last 5-6 yrs.

      Welcome to health insurance churning.

As you have held hospital insurance for at least 12 months, you have served all hospital waiting periods. When you switch funds, you will not have to re-serve those waiting periods.
