How is their service? Currently with Amayasim and often few websites take ages to load completely.

    • +3

Have you found the connection to be really unstable and erratic? I have found it to be highly unreliable.

    • Tried changing DNS?

    • -7

Didn't think the ISP matters that much except for customer support since all providers use the same lines.

      • +1

nope. Different isps have different backhaul. It varies greatly. how Origin is though, i ahve no idea. Never used them.

        • Am with Superloop and no real dramas besides the usual with being unlucky enough to be on HFC

          • +1

@donman92: You mean lucky to be on hfc.
            Better than copper or wireless
Might time to change providers if your connection sucks

            • @Hirolol: HFC will normally do maintenance irregardless of ISP. But yea it's better than satellite but I do live in the city..

      • Different ISPs have different POPs too. So you might not get routed efficiently.

    • Been using their NBN for 2 years. They use Superloop. Never had a problem. Had to call them
to turn of CGNAT though which took a day to do.

      • I’m pretty sure Amaysim doesn’t use Superloop, also CGNat is now off by default, don’t know if they even got the option. If anything they probably have some partnership with Optus (Amaysim owned by Optus), the ASN of the IPs seem to be Optus

        • Pretty sure 100% not superloop. The DNS IPs are Optus DNS aswell

        • Sorry, my response was regarding Origin NBN to the question "How is their service"? Not Amaysim, apologies for the confusion.

          • @Cyphar: All good, thanks for clarifying

      • I joined Origin recently, used their website to get static IP, immediate response. $5/month though.

      • A day???? That’s shite, i rang up superloop and they did it while on call which instant

        • Tangerine took 9 days.

You've gotta call the to lodge a ticket, and the next tickets take forever to finalise.

          • @Ryan-H: Well i guess i know which retailers to never go with then

    • Yes same, only certain websites. The speeds are fine, only certain websites load very very slow, may be a dns issue, I haven’t looked into it yet

    • Try with google or cloudflare dns.

    • +1

I rate Origin way above Amaysim. Previously Origin used ABB, now they use Superloop. So basically two of the best ISPs. I get no drop outs, no micro drop outs. Always consistently high speed no matter what time. Amaysim who use Optus, to me were unreliable, only ok speeds and drop outs here and there. Optus does block certain things online too. Origin is always near the top of my list of ISPs as their they're reliable and fast. Customer service is good too.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Awesome deal. Origin was good for us.

  • -2

I'm still on half price Telstra for another 7 weeks so will be looking for another half price deal then.
And 5,000 Everyday Rewards points worth $25.
    BARGAIN.

  • +1

These are good prices for NBN - my 12 month More CommBank deal is coming to an end, so might consider - keen to hear of others' experience with their service

  • Wow, you guys are fast! Thanks for editing the post.

I haven't noticed any issues since moving from Superloop to Origin other than a few outages during emergency nbn maintenance.

I'd love if anyone has feedback on if it's possible to get that price as an existing customer.

    • Were you able to get super loop to cancel straight away or was it a stuff around?

      • The cancellation part was easy, just a phone call, although I forgot to call them a month in advance so they just pro-rata charged me for the remaining time at their normal full price.

  • Connected on nbn FTTP currently with another provider…. Origin website says they can't find internet at my address. Strange…

    • +2

      Try entering Lot No.

      • +2

Thank your the suggestion. I tried the same and did not work. Using lot number worked fine.

      • No change. Active NBN connection, house built in the 1950's, have previously been with Origin for energy. No other nbn provider has an issue finding my service in their online qualification checks.

  • What happened to your landline after switching to Origin? Do you get the landline from another provider? I'm currently with Telstra with landline and wanted to switch.

Home phone services may stop working
You won't get a landline or internet-based phone services (VOIP) if you switch to Origin internet.

    • Wow
I don't think I've had a land line for at least 10 years, probably more

What do you need a landline for these days that you can't do with a mobile or Internet?

      • Works in a power outage and doesn't rely on phone towers being operational (if it's a very basic corded handset).

I know a few people who live in bushfire prone areas (pretty much anywhere these days) who have one specifically in case of an emergency knocking out the local tower so they can still call older relatives.

        • +1

If VoIP still works then mobile phone will work as they all pretty much have voice over wifi nowadays.

        • Yeah i think you are wasting your money. Does your landline work when you have an internet outage?

          • @Save 50 Cent: Not me, I don't have a landline. I was just responding to why someone may feel they need a landline

      • What do you need a landline for these days that you can't do with a mobile or Internet?

For when you want a phone to be associated with a particular place. I'm self-employed, so when I had just a mobile, friends and family were hesitant to call me during business hours, because they knew there was a reasonable chance they would be interrupting me talking with a customer, or in a meeting.

Now I have a VOIP phone at my home, and friends and family know they can call that at any time. If I'm on-site, the phone ringing won't interrupt me, as I can't hear it. If I'm at home and chatting with a customer or attending a meeting via Zoom, I close my home-office door and let the VOIP call go through to the answering machine.

This way my mobile is largely reserved for my business customers, but my family knows I can still be called on my mobile in an emergency.

Now I'm much more contactable to friends and family, without the awkwardness of being interrupted in a meeting. And my family uses this a lot, like "I just got notification that a parcel was left at the front door, can you bring it in?" and "I'm at the shops, how much milk is in the fridge?". Both of these could be answered by anyone in the house, not just me. Both of these would be wasted calls if my mobile was called and I wasn't home.

VOIP lines can be very inexpensive, I was lucky and I'm on a grandfathered plan that costs $0.35/month plus calls. For new customers, Crazytel's PAYG plan is now $2.50/month plus calls ($0.50 for a SIP trunk, plus $2.00 for a DID).

I also got a VOIP phone for my parents' house, as they kept putting their mobiles on silent and forgetting about it. Now if I ring them and they don't answer, I try calling their VOIP phone. Saves me a lot of worry.

Edit: apparently my CrazySaver $0.35/month plan is still available.

    • +2

I ported my landline number to Crazytel with this offer, then moved my internet to Origin. They are pretty cheap and reliable so far.

      • +2

Was just about to suggest this, now I can move providers anytime!

  • +1

Can you turn CGNAT off on Origin

    • yes, need to call them (not live support).

      • +1

Do you have to pay extra?

        • +1

          5 bucks for static ip

        • dynamic IP is free, need to pay extra for static.

    • -1

opt out CGNAT is not free. $5 month for statice IP

      • There is a difference between a public IP and a static IP. Is it still free to opt out of CGNAT for a public IP like it is with Aussie BB?

        • +1

No. They charge you $5 per month for a static IP when you tell them you want to opt out of CGNAT.

      • Yes I can confirm that…I switched to Origin internet recently, and when asked them to turn off CGNAT, they told me there is NO option for dynamic IP, I have to pay $5/month extra to have Static IP option enabled. Will switch to other ISP 6 month later. Which ISPs have option to turn off CGNAT for free?

    • You have to pay $5/month for Static IP…I switched to Origin internet recently, and when asked them to turn off CGNAT, they told me there is NO option for dynamic IP anymore.

  • Also for fixed wireless

  • Great deal now just need to know reliable Origin NBN is? Ozb family help out please.

  • +1

I have signed up for Amaysim starting from 12 Feb 1000 m for $50 for two month, what is better to cancel that and take this or can i take leverage for both with future scheduling

    • +1

Go origin as they use superloop which is better. Rewards are a bonus

  • +1

I will still sign up for finder Visa card deal! ( finger cross I can get the giftcard)

  • Currently on their 500/50 plan from one of the previous deals $63/month. In CBD MEL. Getting a solid 15/15 during peak hours ie 7pm till midnight…..

    • Wow that's terrible, why haven't you churned?

    • You sure it is not an nbn issue? I would either request a fix or leave them to see if that fixed the issue. Not sure how you can happily (or unhappily) pay for $63 for that kind of service

    • I'm on the $63/month deal and it's been rock solid. Best internet I've had in years.
Telstra was patchy, Dodo was abysmal, Mate was fantastic but too expensive, and Origin has been perfect for me. Not looking forward to my 6 months ending and having to churn to another deal actually

  • +2

Thanks OP my next churn. Good prices for Superloop reseller.

  • +1

I'm with them at the moment (500/50) for the $100 Woolworths reward for 30 days and speed is fine ——> https://www.speedtest.net/result/18801701020

Not sure if I'll churn out to Launtel for a day and then come back, or take up the Optus offer ——-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/946431

    • I'm in the same boat. Very solid price but the gamble for 4 months free NBN is tempting.

    • May I know if you had EDR 20,000 points listed as part of your welcome letter/email by Origin? I remember adding my EDR membership but it doesn't show in the inclusion list on the order placed email. Would you be kind enough to check . Thanks.

      • It doesn't. I did the same offer a few months ago and it didn't then either. All it's got on the letter is :-

        Inclusions

        Everyday Rewards points
Your points will arrive in around 45 days, provided your plan remains active with your EDR account linked.

        • Mine didnt, so I am assuming I have forgotten to add my membership :(

        • Do you recall at what point it asked for a membership number?

          • +1

@idm: It was near the start somewhere. It asked you to put your number in it and then when you hit return it confirmed that your number was eligible for the offer and listed the amount of rewards underneath the box.

  • +1

"The Half Price Internet Offer is available to new or moving Origin internet
residential customers who sign up direct with Origin to any nbn™ or Opticomm
fibre plan from 4th February 2026 until the offer is withdrawn."

Wonder if I should jump ship from Telstra this cycle or hang on til that finishes and wait for another deal.

  • +1

Man, last time when I switched from Superloop to Superloop under different account, I didnt have internet for five days. God knows, how the Opticomm NTD stopped working during account transfer. They had to replace the NTD with the Nokia one. Too scared to try this again and be without internet. :(

  • When we switched from Dodo to the last Origin half price deal we had connection problems way more frequently. The problem I have is discerning between an NBN issue and the specific provider. Often my ASUS router would report the remote DHCP server wasn't working correctly, something like that.
    Bentleigh VIC area.

It's cheap but we're hesitant to go back if that is a provider level technical difference.

    • Had the same with the southern phone deal. Had more drop outs and even outages in the 2 months than I've had with years on the NBN.

    • +1

For Origin you can go to the Asus settings and look for advanced, WAN, DHCP query frequency, continuous mode, apply.

Check that you are running the latest Asus firmware.

    • I had the exact opposite happen in WA.
Dodo couldn't hold a connection more than 30 minutes, Origin not a single drop out since signing up.

  • +1

Thanks op signed up.. Hopefully my exetel modem is all good. The origin info said apparently it is

  • +6

    Hooray for an Opticomm deal

    • +3

Ah another poor soul blessed with fewer options. Condolences

  • My electricity is currently with Origin and never been with them for NBN. If I sign up this plan will be considered a new customer, right?

    • That’s fine. It’s a new Origin internet customer that they care about.

  • How easy is the process if going from Exetel to Origin? My experience with Exetel has always been really positive (e.g. online within 5 mins after submitting the application).

  • Oooh would sign up for this but finder has a $350 gc for signing up with optus, might do that first

    • Will this last long?

  • We can't find internet at your address
Sorry, we're unable to offer any internet plans at your address.

Anyone in Perth getting this error

    • I have in the past so I called them up and they signed me up over the phone and I still got the Woolworths points. It’s an issue with the Superloop address checker which they use. You’ll probably see the same issue if you go to the Superloop website.

    • Getting this issue in Brisbane as well

      • Signed up online using lot number rather than street number under manual address function. Confirmation email has street number on it as well to confirm it’s the right address.

  • It's this through opticomm or origin who use Aussie broadband network?

    • Origin use Superloop's network.

      • +1

        Thank you.

  • When does the offer expire and can i set it to start in 2 months

    • +1

There is no expiry date listed. You can schedule up to one month in advance.

  • You can't schedule a date in advance to churn right? Any notice period for cancellation?

    • +3

You can schedule up to one month in advance.

Termination of your service can be requested at any time by you on 30 days’ notice to us.

If you’re cancelling your service part way through a billing cycle, we can offer a pro-rata for the remainder of that period. You can chat about this with our team when you call.

      https://www.originenergy.com.au/help-support/internet-produc…

  • +1

I signed up to the previous 72/m 500/50 for 6 months deal in Jan, and thought I'd check if they could apply this introductory rate for the remainder. Obviously they're not obliged to but they definitely didn't seem interested in trying.
    https://imgur.com/a/aQKIFYP

    • +2

It's a utility company they won't care about your power bills why would they bother with nbn….

  • +1

    Hefty price after 6 months

  • Does "moving customer" mean customers who are already with Origin, but moving to a different plan?

    • +1

      Moving house

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

So no need to have any energy services with Origin for this offer?

    • +1

There is bundled pricing and without. So no need. But save a further $10/Mo when bundled.
