Jetstar Voucher Use

I noticed people selling their jetstar vouchers, when I look at the voucher I have it shows the following terms;

Do they actually check that the person named on a voucher is named on the new booking?
Or do I just have a dud credit voucher?

It won't work if you are not the passenger. If you try to then you will get this error message.

Please ensure the voucher conditions are met, including the voucher name and booking dates. Refer to the voucher Terms and Conditions for details for more details.

It won't work even if you put your name as the contact person.

    • You're right, damn, just tried!

  • So you bought a voucher then

Nah I have a voucher from cancelling a flight with the top bundle thing.
I saw in classifieds that people sell jetstar vouchers and would consider selling it for a discount as I can't immediately use it now.
But looking at the terms made me question putting it up.
So it made me wonder, are there different types of jetstar vouchers or do they all have the same conditions?

      • My bad understand now.

      • It’s funny the Google AI says it’s against the terms but if you made the booking for someone else with your contact details it would likely go through. I guess people sell them as it works most of the time anyway?

        • Yeah, would be good to know! :D

  • If it's a domestic flight you could probably get by flying under a different name, especially if you have no checked baggage and do web check in so you can go straight to the gate.

This is technically very illegal though.

      https://afp.gov.au/news-centre/media-release/qld-man-fined-travelling-under-friends-name-domestic-flight#:~:text=A%20Brisbane%20man%20was%20convicted,the%20Criminal%20Code%20(Cth).

While it was the bomb threats that got them looking at him, the $1700 fine was for using the wrong ID.

Not saying it isn't the 'simplest' way to sell a ticket or voucher or that people probably don't do it all the time, but people should be aware of the possible risks.

I can't remember having my ID checked in 10 years for a domestic flight, but one could be playing with fire.

      • Yes but that guy used a false ID. That is, when AFP officers approached him whilst making inquiries regarding the bomb threat, he produced fake ID. Very different here, no-one is suggesting that OP make up and produce false identification documents

There are a few others over the years.

It sounds like it isn't the actual fake ID which is necessarily 'giving false information' (though it was in my first link). It's if you use a ticket that you know isn't yours it counts too.

@wetsandwich: Yep, looks like you are right. I must say that the odds of being outed are rather low but it is indeed a possibility. Good to know for OP though.

            • @Anthonese: Definitely, it would only be some extraordinary situation where you are ever asked for ID, but nonetheless it could happen.

I don't think there should be any fee for name changes other than a capped/admin fee like $25, but unfortunately we have very low airline regulation here compared to say europe and they can just bend us over with fees and restrictions.

    • Preferably sex and ethnicity matches the name otherwise the gate agent might get suspicious when your name pops up on the machine.

      • Like the time you tried to board a flight using a ticket under the name of scroll lock.

You had a case to answer for…

      • It's 2026, can you really presume one's gender identity and ethnicity based on their name? Imagine the headlines if a gate agent tried this

  • Do they actually check that the person named on a voucher is named on the new booking?

    Yes

Just sell it to someone with the same name as you… Problem solved…

  • Alternative solutions

Book a fully flex ticket under your name
Do a free name change to your buyer or friend

Then cancel, the cancels credit be in the new nanow that person has credit in their name
