Yeah they make good nachos
I like em with salsa!
‘Onya Matty.
Are these ever half off?
Never ever.
Cheapest I’ve seen them at Woolies/Coles is $3.
They are seriously good.
Oh there's no doubt that these are easily the best. Just curious though. But tbh $3 for 230g instead of doritoes at half off with only 175g - mission still wins value and flavour wise
Nice! Got 2. Too bad standard Cheese wasnt part of the deal :(
which is standard cheese?
Cheesy Nachos is also discounted to $3.50
Extreme cheese is… not
The link shows Tomato Cheese on the $3.5 - in not a fan of Tomato flavored chips. Or do Amazon have their link title wrong?
They have it saying: "Flavour Name: Tomato Cheese"
Amazon is using the incorrect flavour name, it's cheesy nachos.
Edit: Sold out now though.
@hamza23: i still managed to get a couple - thanks for the help. Maybe my state distro still has some
These tasts a bit stale sometimes
They shouldn't last long enough after opening to become stale
Chuck them in the microwave on low power for a few seconds.
Yum. Ordered some.
I like these just on their own. But I feel like they don’t have as much flavouring as they did a few months ago.
Been buying for >10 years, flavour amount waxes and wanes by batch. Never picked up on a downward trend overall.
Interesting. That’s good to hear tho
Covered in MSG but damn! Are they tasty.
Yeah I ate a whole bag once and had a snooze after
MSG doesn't cause sleepiness, and is considered a safe, natural food additive. E.g. it is found in tomatoes. There would be less than 1 gram of MSG in these.
What causes sleepiness is the combination of carbohydrates, high fat and high salt. Eating a whole bag of corn chips at once is pretty rare, and I'd say very unhealthy.
Those chili and lime corn chips are 25% fat, so you would be getting 57.5 grams of fat in one pack. They also have extremely high salt content compared to other corn chips.
I had a sleep and then went for a run
@lonewolf: First article is one of the lowest quality studies I’ve ever heard of. In 2002 they gave a bunch of Taiwanese people a questionnaire asking what kind of food they eat. They used the answers to try to estimate how much MSG they were consuming. 5 years later they tried to contact the same people and asked whether they snore.
That’s it.
Even if the data was accurate and objective (it’s not, it’s subjective data), it’s still only correlational.
If you consume an extreme amount of MSG (the only correlational finding in this study other than obesity), you likely consume an extreme amount of unhealthy food or takeaway food. That food also contains all kinds of other additives in addition to high fat and salt, and high calories. Low quality correlational data like this is not on its own enough to identify causation.
The second article concludes that MSG is safe.
@ForkSnorter: MSG has always been fairly controversial.
In small amounts most stuff is fine. The problems is it's a widely used flavouring for a lot of highly processed junk foods and is addictive. You have to really train your taste buds to get off salty crispy snacks - always hard to control portions.
The worst thing about it is it's very high in sodium.
In small amounts most stuff is fine.
Yes, and MSG is almost always used in tiny amounts.
The problem is that people who report effects after consuming food containing MSG are affect by the 1960s-1970s unscientific myths and assume those affects are caused by the MSG, when they are likely caused by the other substances in the same food. MSG is a naturally occurring flavour that is used in small amounts and has not been scientifically linked to significant adverse effects in the average person. I think it's the name "MSG" that stigmatizes it. It should be called "tomato extract" or something.
Every substance in the universe can be described in terms of its chemical formula, which makes it sound artificial or scary.
The worst thing about it is it's very high in sodium.
Another mythical perspective.
MSG has around one-third the sodium of table salt, and adding MSG to food allows the food to retain more flavour without having to use as much salt, so the end result is lower sodium. It is effectively a salt substitute that enhances flavour.
@ForkSnorter: Not disagreeing but the stingma exists as it's a quick and lazy flavouring which is in so many quick and lazy foods and cheap Chinese.
It's still addictive as are the kind of snacks containing it once you are used to consuming them. Good cooking shouldn't require it.
Most have a lot of salt too so divide it up how you want but should try to consider the recommended max RDI.
That's why they are tasty haha
Pretty horrendous if you look at the label though.
It's all about portion control (which goes out the window).
57.5 grams of fat
More than a big Mac, and people are worried about sugar and drink diet soda. Fat makes you fat!
Most people know this is junk food and super processed hopefully.
Fat doesn't make you fat. Fat satiates you. Carbs with no fat spike your blood sugar and don't give you the feeling of full so you actually feel hungrier and eat more.
Fats are more calorie dense, 9cal/g vs 4cal/g (on being the worst).
Perhaps you're not eating enough unrefined carbs. Everything spikes your insulin but carbs return to normal faster which people don't realise.
Everyone is scared of sugar but happily smash half a bag of these or more without turning a blind eye.
@G-Shock: Its not just about calorie, all the research coming out these days is showing that Carbs affects fat gain more than Fat does due to the insulin hits and then insulin resistance that occurs over time. As well as how quickly you feel hungry again as opposed to fat that keep the hunger pains at bay for longer. Of course protein is the best calorie if you are worried about fat gain due to filling you up but also the extra energy used to digest protein.
@lonewolf: Link to research?
Best to avoid highly refined carbs (and foods), have a high fibre diet and go for a walk after eating. People don't need as much protein as the big industries lead you to believe either.
People can overdo it on any foods, it's a mental and habitual thing too. Snacking too much means you didn't didn't eat enough.
Just have to keep busy and not buy these kind of snacks, portion control too hard. It's easy to overdo it on peanuts as well (highly fatty but still a more natural option).
@G-Shock: Tonnes of studies done on High fat diets as opposed to what replaced them with Carb diets.
not all people are the same, the more activity you do, the more protein is optimal, you dont need it to survive, but if you care about optimal performance plus the weight, size , gender of the person makes a difference. But we were talking about fat loss, you are better off with protein calories over carb or fat calories due to the satiety levels of protein but also how long it takes to digest protein / convert it to storage if not used.
Hunger isnt just a mental or habitual thing, it is also a myriad of other things especially revolving around hormones. You have a hormonal imbalance, that can lead to all sorts of issues with fat gain / diet / hunger issues. Ghrelin being the main one but there are others that indirectly or directly affect. Insulin and insulin resistance being a major precursor to this. then also there are other reasons, people not getting enough of one type of macronutrient compared to the other 2. ie If you get carbs and fats but not enough protein, your body will still send through cravings / hunger signals due to requiring that. Even if in some circumstances, you are dehydrated, that can also not only send you thirst signals but hunger signals as generally its believe you do get up to 20% of liquids just from your food.
The older you get, the more these issues especially around hormones can come into effect.
I do agree though on snacking or more importantly keeping unhealthy foods away from your pantry / house. If they arent there then you will lean towards what is available and if its healthy then all the better. But if they are in the house then when hunger hits or a quick snack urge hits, its easier to go for the unhealthy quick and tasty option rather than the alternative.
Tonnes of studies done on High fat diets as opposed to what replaced them with Carb diets.
Link one.
Lot of fads as well and rebranded Atkins diets, people fasting but still fat and yoyo'ing. Fat people always exercising and on those restrictive diets lol.
You do you though
@G-Shock: haha ok you are one of those, wasnt sure if you were genuinely having a discussion or just arguing. No worries mate, good luck, I have been in the industry for 30 years, i would suggest you go look up research yourself and not just what fits your narrative. because from my experience there is no point in me having to prove anything to people who dont want to believe it. Its always better when they learn themselves with their own research.
@lonewolf: Of course I do. The 'industy' is full of misinformation and shrills trying to sell gym plans, diet books and other BS. Meat dairy and egg industries are huge and have been brainwashing people for generations (like milk is the main/only source of calcium, feeling the need to overconsume protein for example).
I tend to agree, it's not worth arguing with people on the internet lol. Vegan (WFPB) vs carnivorous /keto is the opposite end of the spectrums.
Enjoy your mission chips!
@G-Shock: yeah i dont agree on the keto diet either, there has to be a decent moderate medium. But i do agree with them on biology and genetics and our body was designed to digest and better handle some types of foods over others and thats how evolution works. Perhaps in another 100 000 years it will change again but who knows.
I ate my first mission chips last night but i got the lime and chilli , havent been able to get the cheese one yet, definitely a lot better than the doritos i have had before. But i did notice if i use it with a lot of dip then you dont actually get the benefit of the better flavour of the chip, so i wonder if its better to only have it with small amounts of dip or no dip.
Like these.
