@Techefy: McVities founded in 1830. Woolworths in Australia founded in 1924.

          • @Techefy: It is called original on the pack. Just a name I guess.

Same ingredients as most of the low quality cookies in the supermarkets: Wheat flour, palm oil, sugar.

Centuries later, historians will look back on our age and ask "Why were they so obsessed with low quality processed food consisting of white flour, vegetable oil, salt and sugar"?

            @ozhunter68: Standard American Diet.

            • @John Doh: Thanks. I actually googled what "SAD" could mean (appart from the normal sad), nothing came up.

Fully agree, standard US post WW2 type crap and more and more chemical diet and lifestyle.

@ozhunter68: Haha. OK. All these fast food restaurants like McD Pizza huts, Dominos all feed crap. They sure taste OK for once in a while, but not healthy IMO.

I think the food were eating is one of the least interesting thing historians will look back on in this time.

And its pretty understandable why - the food tastes good and is pretty cheap. It's not rocket science. It's not great food, but it's not as harmful as say smoking cigarettes which everyone did just 50-100 years ago.

    • I agree. And there are countless social media videos of shocking food practices of the medieval era, with audience gasps. But a hundred years from now, they will do the same thing with 20th and 21st century eating habits (and what government authorities allow to be put into food).

    • Lots of delicious things in this list!

Junk food that is not even tasty. And why are they even called “digestive” anyway?

    • Dodgy mind games advertising, that's what.

  • +1

Can anybody explain why those biscuits (including mcvities brand) called "digestive" biscuits while they have such a small amount of fibre?

    • Are fiber digestive? Why we prefer to eat fibre? Easy to digest?

      • according to google ai, dietary fiber is essential for a healthy digestive system, primarily by promoting regular bowel movements, preventing constipation, and acting as fuel for beneficial gut bacteria.

        • Thank you ; which are the breakfast has dietary fibre? Any kind of weetbix? And oats? And any cereals like cornflakes kellogs honey one etc

          • +1

@imYourBossFenny: apparently, oat bran, oats, weetbix are high in dietary fibre if you ask as traditional breakfast. the other breakfast boxes (brands) are actually very low with fibre. legumes and lentils (especially green lentil) also high in dietary fibre. My personal experience also showed me that fibre is more important than probiotics because the good bacteria is already in my gut and I need to feed them with fibre. My personal experience also showed me that fibre is more important than protein if I don't go to gym and doing heavy weightlifting often.

McVitie's Digestive got its name from the high amount of sodium bicarbonate in it, meant to be an antacid. The inventor theorized that eating the biscuits after a large meal would be beneficial to one's health. Now, they print a disclaimer on them that says, “The biscuit's ingredients lack digestive aids”

Here is the disclaimer on the ALDI's version of it
      https://dm.apac.cms.aldi.cx/is/image/aldiprodapac/product/jp…

"while our biscuits are a tasty treat between meals or after meals, our ingredients will not improve your digestion"

Bought some - terrible. Chalky and dry. Would not recommend even at this price.

    • My partner & I bought a packet and agree. They taste noticeably worse than the McVities, or the Aldi ones.

My partner also got a hard chunk of what looks like rice in one of hers.

      • -2

When you said partner I thought you’re mses lol 😂

Until I saw the word “her”

Already tried it and the taste is awful.

I even went back and compared Woolworths’ version with McVitie’s. The nutrition panels are almost identical apart from the sodium, yet the flavour is miles apart. A good reminder that specs don’t tell the whole story.

  • At least they are not Ultra-processed!

  • The psych wards will be happy with this deal
