    How soon till sold out?

  • +1

Great minds think alike .. I was searching at midnight last night and decided against it per this post for the same drives back in Dec with some people still waiting. Shocking shipping experiences.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/936307

Note the longer delivery time and minimal in stock

Compared to local stock though this is a reasonable amount cheaper for those that want to take the risk.

Received mine 17 Jan and ordered Christmas Eve. Was fine tbh for international stock over the holiday period. Was also cheaper by $30

  • +1

I'm not sure if they are restocking/placing additional stock online every other day, as the stock level has moved up and down (between 1 and 5) since yesterday.

Mine is expected to be delivered between 12-19 Feb, will report back once arrived.

    • Received them today

      • Can you confirm it came in retail cardboard packaging? Can you throw the serial numbers in to WD checker and see what they come back with for warranty.

        Thanks

        • +1

It’s the retail box. It has warranty expiry Feb 2029, which is 3 years. Same thing mentioned on the box

  • +1

    Showing OOS

  • I'd like to add that these come without the warranty they claim to have - when I put mine in the WD checker, it came up as an OEM drive. So you could argue for one year at best, under Australian law

    • I'd argue for a refund if it wasn't disclosed as an OEM drive.

      • I certainly considered that but I just wanted to keep the drive because it was so much cheaper than I can get anywhere else right now. Was a 20TB for $547

    • There's an easy way to know to begin with whether if it's an OEM drive. If the parcel came delivered with only the bare HDD in an anti static bag which was inside of the parcel box or satchel or inside of some other plain brown cardboard box then it's an OEM drive. Retail HDD tend to come packed in a nice retail cardboard box usually with pictures and colours on the box.

      • These ones from Amazon US are coming in the retail boxes! When I have a spare moment I am going to take it up with WD..

    • It's from Amazon US - this is a USA market drive, of course it won't be warrantied by WD Australia.

As the retailer, your warranty is with Amazon.

If you want factory WD (or Seagate) warranty then you need to buy Australian market drives.

      • Yes I understand it's US warranty, but folks can and do find someone to carry it or mail it back to the US for that.. These ones are coming in retail boxes but with OEM warranty instead of the 5 years retail usually have. My box is marked with 5 years warranty, but the online checker says nope..

Probably posted on every deal for this but this is the air filled version (WD120EFGX) and not the older helium filled version (WD120EFBX)

Noise is way worse at 34 dB vs 20 dB idle but transfer speeds are a lot better at 260 MB/s vs 196 MB/s

    • +3

Yep, this is why I gave up on these deals.

Ended up burning my wallet and getting 2x Toshiba 20tb enterprise drives.

    • Does it support using SMART acoustic control to make it quieter?

      • No idea, is that still a thing?

      • I don't think any modern drives support this any more.

    • +2

Keep posting this! Let people know how they're cheaping out. While charging customers even more. Terrible. Transfer speeds should be about 220 for the older model. Helium also makes the drive more reliable in the long term.

      • Yeah its annoying, wished I picked up some of the helium drives before they disappeared.

I got the transfer rate from their data sheet but the value does seem low

  • OOS :(

    • 1 available now. They seem to trickle feed more stock to get people to buy now because of FOMO.

      • And now they are selling a 10TB for the original price and the 12TB is $612.09. Tricky b@stards.

    • Just checked and said 5 available for me…

  • +2

I'm still waiting for 26TB drives to be available at $806 delivered, again. I should have bought 4 at that time, not just one.😞

  • I guess we won't be seeing sub $20 per TB prices anymore? :(
    $30/TB is the new norm.

    • Where's the ozbargain group buy posts when you need them…

    • We haven't seen $20TB, let alone sub $20TB in years :(

Really hope this isn't going to be the case for RAM and SSD prices for years to come as well…

      • I recalled Amazon had some $18/TB deals a few years ago.
        But yeah nothing recent.

    • +1

I remember buying the 10tb when it was released 10 years ago for $30/tb. Back then if you could get a big drive for $30/tb or under it was an automatic buy. After it became normal to find specials with $25/tb, sometimes reaching $20/tb. Now its gone back to what it was 10 years ago. But drives are worse and less reliable. Sad

    • +1

This shuckable Seagate 16TB is "on sale" for $30/TB too

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Seagate-16TB-Expansion-Desktop-Dri…

I presume they still use whitelabel Exos enterprise drives in them?

Edit: Yeah, this guy on Reddit confirmed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/o528ah/fyi_sea…
His had an Exos (ST16000NM001G-2KK103) inside

      • You are not guaranteed to get Exos?
Its a gamble, not worth it at $30/TB?

        • It's Amazon so you can just check the drive with the USB and if it's not Exos return it.

          • +1

@Agret: That above reddit post was 5 years ago. Doubt they are Exos.

  • Currently says 2 left… 14:03 6/2

    • +1

Beat me by 5 seconds lol

  • Says 2 left in stock.

  • still 2 left in stock.

Same price per TB on this gold class if you are fine with 26TB

If you're willing to shell out $884.25 on a HDD.

  • OOS

  • Back in stock at $402, just bought one.

    • $402.98 right now. I guess the price is fluctuating. Just bare in mind that this is an OEM drive. You will deal with OEM warranty. I'm assuming that you will have to go through Amazon for warranty.

  • I ordered 2 12Tb Wd Reds from Amazon, on 21 and 24 December. The first one still hasn’t arrived yet, while the second one arrived on 27 January. Both addresses are in metro Sydney. It’s kind of unacceptable that it’s taken this long, not to mention the HDD ordered afterwards arriving first. Still the best $/TB deal though so if you have time to wait then I guess it’s fine.

    • Check the warranty for the one that arrived - what does it show up as? Was it in a retail box?

      • It was in a retail box but I’ve thrown it away :(

        • So did it come in a colourful red and white box with a picture of a hard drive on the front of it just like this. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71zPnxBPLdL.jpg

Or was the HDD in a plain brown box?.

If it's the first then it's retail and if it's a second the plain brown box then it's an OEM HDD factory packed into a box.

          • @hollykryten: It was in the retail box with with the red and white. Will update when the second one arrives

          • @hollykryten: haha that's wild, i've never seen a 3.5" hdd come in a box like that. I guess they want to give a more premium feel to their higher end drives?

            • +1

@Agret: WD ships some of their hard drives in these retail box packaging out to retailers like Amazon. The WD Black 6TB HDD (which i use for my PS5 game storage) which i bought from Amazon US last year came in a retail box just like that. Except the difference the box colour was black. It's good because the retail cardboard box protects the drive in shipping.

  • Now available again, 2 in stock, selling for $397.33
    8/2/26 20:25

    • The price doesn't seem to stay the same for long. It's now $405.27 and still 2 in stock.

  • In stock $422.46 for 2 as at 16/2

  • $802.67 if you buy x 2.
