    My mate told me it's very important to get a number in china for all the essential services like DIDI and food delivery… As they tend to ask you for the last 4 digits of your number and calls often than not.
    Which Sim would?

      Didi works via the wechat and we have used them extensively using our Aussie mobile number (you just quote the last 4 digit 4151).

      For food delivery however you probably do need a local number which you would need to obtain locally (note most Western sites will be blocked).

      I managed to get food delivery in Beijing last month, thru the alipay app, and using the "Takeout" mini app in Alipay.
      Meituan miniapp wouldn't let me checkout for delivery, keeps giving me error, possibly because no local number.
      I was using the esim bought from travelkon for HK & China that was data only..

          I think the miniapp through Alipay allows you to bypass the local number requirement on some of those app. , I successfully used Didi, the Takeout, luckin coffee and a few others miniapp all from Alipay.

      Hey there! The True Unlimited is for our Japan KDDI, South Korea SKT and Thailand True.

      We do not advertise "True Unlimited" where there is a fair usage policy - also it is not dial up speed, our Unlimited speed is reduced 1Mbps which is enough for basic browsing and messaging :)

              @Charlie Dont Surf: 180 days means the validity for the QR codes, if you do not activate within 180 days the QR code "expires" - this only applies to our Europe & UK eSIM.

              The other Europe eSIMs have different rules: Orange (redemption code - no expiry), Vodafone (activation date), 3UK (1 year)

      The 5G one is a roaming SIM from 3HK - it works on DoCoMo / Rakuten / KDDI / Softbank (so pretfy much all of the providers) which is awesome however since it is a HK provider tiktok won't work on Android (iPhone is fine).

      DoCoMo IIJ eSIM is a local provider.

      Honestly it would be fine to get any even the KDDI one.

          Hey, I have used both eSIM provided by a HK/Taiwan telco (not from this store though) and local eSIM (IIJ) in Japan. Honestly I couldn’t tell the difference. Both options are good for using maps, web browser and playing games. I don’t watch video content a lot so can’t comment on that.

          If you are only going to Japan we would probably recommend the Japan only eSIM (5G eSIM / Docomo / KDDI)

          But as the @Pidapipo mention for the average user you won't be able to tell the difference (apart from some sites showing HK content vs JP content)

      We do offer True Unlimited Data for Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

      The other Unlimited product do have 1.5GB FUP then speed is reduced to 1Mbpd which is sufficient for basic browsing, text, emails and social media.

      There has been no reported issue as far as we are aware. The Disneyland connection in Japan looks like a once off issue as others commented they can use it fine (we were there aswell last month and it worked flawlessly).

      Asia 13 is one option (for convinience), you can also consider purchasing HK eSIM + Viettel/Mobifone eSIM as our vietbam esim is a local one and provide huge amount of data

    Next week, I'm heading on 8 week Journey around South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia).

    With this in mind, do you recommend a specific sim OR am I better off buying a few different sims (for the various countries)? I'm conscious that from my initial research it seems that there isn't really a one stop shop for all the countries, I'm also happy to get a good sim if that means foregoing say one country.

    Appreciate any recs you may have on what sim or sims is best for this (and if it's unlimited, even better - although I don't think that exists)

      Yes that would be a good option -> you can install the eSIM prior to your trip (ignore any "failed activation" notification for iPhone) and the "days" will start to count when you reach your destination (i.e. in Malaysia)

      In terms of coverage we would say Japan 5G eSIM has the advantage as it now works on 4 major carriers (Docomo, Softbank, KDDI and Rakuten) vs just Docomo for the IIJ eSIM.

      Speed would be faster on Japan 5G eSIM - although the Docomo IIJ is by no means "slow", in our testing their 4G (LTE) network consistently provides up to 300Mbps speed.

      Yes unlimited data at 128kbps means it will still work after the data has been exhausted at a slower speed.

      Note the one routed via HK will not have access to Tiktok if you use Android

      You can go ahead with Trip and they may be fine too, I haven't used them personally, but i can't vouch for TravelKon. I think the positive reviews constantly on ozbargain is enough for me. Nothing worst than buying a sim that has no coverage and support when you need it in my opinion.

          You’re right that some providers may list the same underlying network, but having the “same network provider” doesn’t necessarily mean the same service quality or priority, for example:

          • Network priority & bandwidth tiering (some eSIMs are deprioritised during congestion, others are not)
          • Speed caps or traffic shaping, especially on “large data” plans
          • Routing & failover - whether the eSIM can be quickly switched to a different resource if there’s a local outage or degradation

          Stop giving business to the big guys

          I tried Airalo before it's quick much much faster in China compare to Travelkon but you do pay for it.

          I doubt Trip.com has anywhere near the speed of Airalo with Travelkon prices. It simply doesn't exist.

          When the products are the same I prefer local.

            Although our speed shouldn't be slower than Airalo, remember that you can change network operators if one of them seems slow.

    Thanks OP, looks good for a trip we are planning to UK and EU in May-June.
    Some advice (also from travellers) please; I have not used a mobile network in Britain for a decade, some pros and cons for Voda, Three or Orange (or other)? TIA

        If you are going to the UK and need big amount of data we would recommend 3UK (it is a local provider)

        If you prefer coverage and reliability we would recommend Orange as it roams to many more providers so you at least have some options namely, 3UK, O2, Orange, Vodafone UK.

        Both will come with a number that can call & text (Orange will provide a French number but it will still work in UK)

    How do the world ones work in terms of data amount? Is it per zone you get that amount?

    Are the South American/Caribbean ones the same as Global?

    Always get our sims from you guys and it's been a pleasant experience every time. Easy connection and if there are any issues you respond really quickly

      Yes they are essentially the same, we just named it South America incase some people do not notice the global one.

      For the Orange Global eSIM you get the data per zone so if you move between zone 1 and 2 you get 20GB + 15GB (shared across the countries)
