    • Yeah. I thought about getting that one but went with this as I didn't have to wait for delivery, prefer the smaller size and the tub which seals better than the bag for FN.

      • +2

Yeah bags of creatine are a pain. Each time you dip in to get a scoop your fingers brush the sides of the bag and come out looking like you've being doing coke.

Definitely worth transferring it into a tub if you have any spare from old protein powders etc.

        • +2

I just top off a small container from the bag..

    • +2

Am using the Focal Nutrition product and it's the same as other ones I've tried. I think I'm decanting into an old BSc tub.

    • +4

It's (seemingly) a buck cheaper and still with free shipping if you cut out the ebay middleman with no ebay plus needed: https://focalnutrition.com.au/product/creatine-monohydrate/

      • +1

Oh nice must be a new development - as I swear shipping used to be on top

      • +1

I will say this though: after 6 days my order has not shipped (direct from FN). I doubt they would get away with that on ebay, so I really wish I'd paid the extra $1.

        • +2

Mine was sent 2 days after purchase. AusPost says I'll receive it today or tmw.

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: It actually arrived today, which I think was a very reasonable timeframe.

Just odd that the auspost tracking never updated from “shipping label created”.

    • Would you recommend the focal one over this or pretty much same thing?

I've used focals protein powders recently and thought they tasted good

    • Just bought it from their website for $1 less (delivered).

  • +4

Pretty good deal if you don't want to worry about online shopping or getting a 1kg bag.

  • +1

I rather paid a little extra for Creapure

    • Better flavours or what? This is unflavoured so it'll be functionally identical to any other unflavoured product.

    • +12

Be honest, creapure is a little more than a little extra, it's double the price, usually $60 for 500g.

For anyone else wondering, creapure is the only brand made outside of China (Germany) and is made in a different way to the Chinese variants even if the final product is chemically the same although physically different (creapure is still more course while the stuff from China is usually more fine). Creatine monohydrate is generally unflavored and all tastes the same.

      • 3x the price. Nice.

  • is this stuff safe to take long term?

    • +28

no. it expires in couple of months.

    • +7

Unless you have some medical reason otherwise, absolutely. Creatine is probably the most heavily studied sports nutrition supplement, and the results basically show that a) it's safe and b) it actually does have some positive effect, in the region of about 10-ish% percent performance improvement.

      • +11

Not to mention all the latest research that has identified wide ranging cognitive benefits. Loads of people take it now for that alone. In all likelihood that may actually become the primary reason to take it.

        • yes was reading about that and that is what peaked my interest, although if i do start up at the gym again then that's a bonus to, was just wondering if there were any long term negative effects but seems like it is pretty safe!

      • -1

Isn't there also "results" that show it doesnt do shit.

        • +1

Probably. Not everything works for everyone. I mean some people take codein and get sleepy, some people go loopy, others it just works as a pain killer.

      • do people take this daily as a routine? seems like a home run

        • +2

Yes. Creatine is intended to be taken daily to maintain the level in your body.

          It isn't like a pre/post-workout specific thing.

  • +3

Does anyone else find that creatine does nothing?

    • +1

I’m still not sure tbh - never really had a proper off period where I stopped taking all supplements

    • It’s cheap. I do feel maybe 5 - 10 percent bigger and have more energy at the gym maybe 20 percent more

      • +1

        I do feel maybe 5 - 10 percent bigger

… bc creatine causes the body to retain more water.

    • your body may require a higher dose then, new studies show 5g isn't enough but it could also be an anti ozbargainer way of making you use more per serve

      • 5g isn't enough

… for cognitive benefits, bc not a lot of it crosses the BBB, so you really have to saturate the tissues, at 20g/day, for some of it to spill over into the brain.

    • I think doctors actually recommend it for certain older patients.

I understand that it's scientifically proven to help pretty much anyone with various things.

      You can look it up.

    • When I first started taking it I felt an improvement in terms of depression but it seemed too soon, before the loading phase was complete. I've neglected to take it regularly for a while so might be a good time for me to confirm a benefit. Online experts talk of higher doses (eg. 10g daily or higher) having a noticeable effect but haven't tried it personally.

    • +1

I take 5g per day, when I was off it for maybe 2 weeks, noticed a drop in strength. It's one of the most researched supplements that do work

    • I've gone off it recently for a month after I finished my last bag and haven't noticed anything at all in terms of performance. There are some people that don't respond to it at all. I think I might still get back on it though. A 1kg bag that costs $40 like the deal above can last you six months, so why not if it has some other benefits.

    • +1

Look up "creatine non-responder", about 20% of people get no benefit.

There are some recommendations like upping your dose to 5g for a few weeks or later 10g to see if you get any improvements.

    • It’s not crack or Jack3d but it does make a difference.

If you feel it’s not making a difference, you’re either eating 2kg of beef a day, not taking it long/regular enough to build up in your body, or potentially not noticing. The biggest difference I notice is towards the back half of my workouts are more productive.

Does anyone know if this stuff goes out of date? (with any consequence). I still have loads but it's like 8 years old.

    • +1

It's cheap enough not to risk it IMO

    • smell and find out. My stash that was nearly 3 years old smelt really off

      • -1

Doesn't seem to change much really. More just wondering if the efficacy would realistically go down.

    • +1

8 years … I’m not a professional but might be okay to drop $20 on the 500g in op’s post. Treat yourself.

      • -2

lol, but why waste money? It tasted bad from day 1 anyway. I bought a Kilo.

I don't take it all the time but periodically will do a teaspoon when trying make a few gains.

        • +3

Creatine, unless you have a flavoured version, is close to zero flavour. Almost like just drinking a straight glass of warm water, possibly an extremely light hint of bitterness.

It's just the chalky/powdery texture that you may feel in your mouth towards the end.

It is definitely not unpleasant to drink.

Creatine builds up in your body over a period of a few weeks. It is intended for daily use to maintain levels. If you take an odd teaspoon here and there it will be close to useless.

          • @ferguson: Am I the only one around here that doesn’t just put into protein shake or juice in the morning? Like it sounds like many are just attempting to dry scoop their doses

          • @ferguson: chalky/powdery texture… not unpleasant to drink?

I cannot think of a Worst drink than chalk???

    • +1

im almost through a 1kg bag that expired in aug 2024 and i havent died yet. to my understanding out of date creatine isnt bad for you, it might just be less potent. have thought of buying another pack and binning this one but ive got maybe a months worth left so no point

      • -2

Wasn't really asking because one might die. But it sounds like the stuff doesn't really lose potency. Good for the next 5 years I guess.

        • +4

Me: and to my children… I leave this 69g remainder of creatine purchased in 2018

    • If you have a pure product, then worst case is it's far less effective. If it's some mix with flavouring or other ingredients, then yes, it may be unsafe to take.

    • I’d imagine the biggest factor at that age is mould.

  • +1

Now I just need a deal on brill cream and a bag of charlie sheen.

  • Just need a few skateboard squats and I'll be keeping the gains goblins at bay

  • 1kg from Premium Supps @ $30.77 if the larger size would get used

    https://premiumsupps.net/products/creatine-monohydrate?varia…

  • Sounds like you still need protein supplements for building muscle. Any tips on stuff that isn't expensive and doesn't taste like crap?

I stopped because I couldn't really have that much milk and also I had Pure Product Australia casein and didn't like the taste. I can't afford beef every day.

    • +2

Casein is very hard to digest. A lot of people think they're lactose intolerant when what they can't actually process is casein (especially from A1 milk).

If you can't afford beef, eat eggs. Really no limit in the amount of eggs you can eat; the cholesterol fear mongering was a sugar industry scam.
