      If it's a QD OLED ,it's a Samsung.

      If it's a WOLED, it's a LG displays panel.

      The processing engine is whatever…

        • +14

This logical fallacy is so insane I do not even have a response

        • +14

Not saying it's good or bad (Op did a great job of explaining that), just wanted to clarify the reality that there are only 2 OLED panel manufacturers on the planet..
As for support…could be worse…could be Sony's support team.

        • +5

Doesn't make the product good buddy.

You're delusional. Tunza didn't even share an opinion. They just clarified how to tell which manufacturer has made each panel.

If anything, they looked to be agreeing with you that the product isn't good by specifying that the processing engine isn't necessarily a Samsung one - which would imply that they could ruin the panel with a cheap subpar processing engine.

You're mad at the wrong person

        • Using samsungs support team would not go into any "pro" list, my man.

    • +7

There aren't that many panel manufacturers

      • +8

Wait until he finds out iPhones use Samsung panels too.

    • There's point to this, as in quality control etc. Either way, this should be first gen OLED which is prone to burn in I believe

      • +1

Either way, this should be first gen OLED which is prone to burn in I believe

All OLED is prone to burn-in…

        • 2nd and 3rd gen OLED from what I see reported has improved. I know Samsung models G93 and G95 have pixelshift to counter this, with improved oled burn in protection.

Do you understand how manufacturing of OLED monitors work? There's only two manufacturers on the market making the actual panels, Samsung and LG, monitor manufacturers buy the panel, and build it into a monitor of the monitor manufacturers design. The design involves things like the stand, housing, inputs for navigating built in monitor settings, the built-in monitor software and firmware, built in KVMs, just everything in the monitor that doesn't flash bright colors into your eyeballs.

So you can have an Asus and MSI monitor with identical panel specifications, because their panels came from the panel manufacturer. This is why Kogan is able to advertise this monitor as having a Samsung panel, because it's the plain old truth. There isn't a magical third OLED monitor panel manufacturer, only LG and Samsung, if there is, please do tell, I would hate to be mistaken.

There's a few Chinese brands that are more budget.

The latest and greatest from those brands are probably still better than older Samsung/ lg or this one.

        • +3

For smartphones or TV's, last I checked all the "monitor" sized devices were still using LG or Samsung panels.

    • What do you mean by this?

  • +9

Enjoy that 'legendary' kogan build quality and warranty 'support'.

    • +4

When did you last time need their support? I had a few issues over the last two years and even if I don't like kogan I have to admit that their support was way better than jb hifi for example

      • +1

I found them to be pretty bad. 4 times i had to contact them over 2 weeks. 3 times they told me wrong info and seemingly lied to get rid of me… Never game me confirmation, when they said they would send emails. Then finally got the truth the fourth time. Nobody had any idea what they're doing there. Its basically pass the buck and blame another team member.

      • +5

I once told them that a kitchen mixer I bought from them was billowing smoke out the vent when it ran.

        They asked for a video.

I responded "And are you going to pay to rebuild my house when my kitchen catches on fire when I run it to get the video?"

They eventually got the message. Eventually. Hell of a lot of bullshit to return an obviously defective product. I'll pay the extra for a non-scumbag brand.

    • +1

I've never had an issue with kogan support and ive had 2x27inch 1440p monitors last and remain good for close to 8 years

      • +4

So you've never dealt with their support if you haven't had a defective product?

        • +2

Well the parent comment also had a dig at "build quality", so I'd assume he's referring to that.

          • @harro112:

I've never had an issue with kogan support

Pretty easy if you've never talked to them.

    • +4

This is what I needed to be reminded of. Thank you good citizen, you've done your deed for the day!

I'll happily pay 20% - 30% extra and wait months for that deal to not deal with Kogan.

    • On Amazon for 77. But you get that peace of mind?

    • Tbh most big companies are the same these days.

    • I buy kogan like its Facebook Marketplace.

No returns, no repairs, good luck

  • Everything was looking great until I read…

    1 x RJ45 Ethernet (100 Mbps)

    • It's not actually clear from the Kogan website, but the InnoCN looks identical and claims 100Mbps: https://innocn.com/en-us/products/innocn-ultrawide-curved-ga…

    • -1

@Wokstar this is a non issue, a 2.5Gb Ethernet adaptor to leave connected to the monitor is $2.15 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008444062634.html

      • Pretty sure that for the 100mbit version. Hate that garbage from sellers where they advertise the description as X but the price is for y

        • No, I'm seeing the 100Mb option at $1.42 so it's even cheaper 😎

    • +2

I guess I'm out of the loop, what do monitors need ethernet for?

      • +2

Seems like it can act as a hub as well. i.e. power laptop and transfer data through the usb-c connection. So easily overcome by just not using that connection.

  • Better to get this?

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/samsung-od…

    No power through USB-C though

    • +1

      $300 more.
Not saying it’s not worth it, but 30% increase in price, almost a different class

      • Hahaha, I just said up above I'd pay 30% extra for non Kogan.

I do totally appreciate your comment, and it's a good call out — thanks for drawing my eye tho :)

        • Ofc, but happens so much with monitors.

It’s always, ‘Looking at a $300 34in VA… just spend more (Double) and get an IPS’

          • @Zuelly: Well, a 300 bucks increase from a 300 bucks product is way more significant than a 1 grand product for sure. Though I agree that 30% increase is a noticeable jump nonetheless.

    • -1

The officeworks monitor you linked is not QD-OLED. Just regular OLED (LG panel). Which means brightness will be worse, colour brightness and gamut worse, among other things.

      • +1

It probably is a Samsung panel but their first gen

        • -1

No very wrong. Only LG make OLED panels.

      • +1

It most likely is a Samsung QD-OLED panel… it's a Samsung monitor after all?

And W-OLED has its benefits over QD-OLEDs and vice versa, it's not one is immediately better than the other…

        • -1

Check your brain at the door comment! Samsung make many monitors and have different models of this. Yes they do put LG OLED panels in their monitors. The officeworks link is not for a QD OLED! LG are the only company that makes OLED panels, Samsung are the only ones that make QD OLED… Annoying when people try to comment thinking they know something but have no idea what they are talking about.

QD OLED is better in every way than OLED, the only thing that might be a compromise is the Samsung protective layer which can have a purple tint with any reflective lights on the screen. Sony doesn't use that for theirs. If you saw the TV's you would know! Its a clear difference for most scenes.

          • @Water Bearer: It's obvious your knowledge about OLED has been gained from researching TVs, but gaming monitors are another ballpark.

Why are you so convinced the SM49G91SD is a LG panel? Literally all other 49" OLED monitors on the market are a) the exact same spec (meaning the same panel) and b) all QD-OLED panels.

Please find me one Samsung OLED monitor that uses a W-OLED panel.

            Only LG make OLED panels.

For someone so fixated on the small details, how can you even say this? Are QD-OLEDs not OLED?

Just because it says 'OLED' and not 'QD-OLED' doesn't mean it's not the latter… my G60SF is definitely QD-OLED and it 'only' says 'OLED' on the official Samsung page… in case you didn't notice, we're not talking about TVs here…

Annoying when people try to comment thinking they know something but have no idea what they are talking about.

At what stage do we call this post advertising? It's a fkn Kogan monitor for $1k and every person is relieving themselves over it.

  • +2

What's the point of connecting an ethernet cable to a monitor?

    • -1

to connect it to a network

    • If you connect your laptop via usb-c, you can get power, video and network over the one cable.

  • Is this okay for my neck?

  • +2

I remember a Kogan tv I bought years ago with "Sony panel". It was still shit quality. People undervalue the difference the image processing makes.

    • Be careful what you say around here. Ozb 90% of the time = encourage each other to buy stuff

      • +1

Get the dopamine of seeing stuff be brought without spending any of their money. REAL

  • any reviews on this?

    • +1

Likely the same panel as this MSI one

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPgb7xaW6B0

TLDW: It's probably about as good as samsungs 240hz g9 oled version in terms of picture quality. Main difference is probably the coating, the 144hz version seem to be somewhat glossy compared to the 2024 g9 240hz.

No clue how their QC is, compared to big brands. Judging from past deals, anything kogan seem pretty awful. Personally, I'd spend an extra ~200 for the samsung variant when it is on sale. Samsung has a 3 year burn in warranty with the newer oled monitors

  • FYI: "HDR400 TrueBlack" is some sort of vesa certification. No clue what it entails, but there are plenty of OLED monitors with that certification that can reach 1k+ nits peak brightness in hdr content

    • This will also peak at 1K nits in a 1% window, that's kinda the standard for these OLED panels. Newer OLEDs (I think) are another story, HDR 500 certification and that kinda stuff

  • Anyone got one of these and can comment?
