              @BestTechAdvisor:

My ex-gf drove one into a pole

              Hope the pole is ok.

              • +1

@MrPants: As long as the pole doesn't belong to him then he'll be fine

              • +2

@MrPants: the pole was not ok, my ex was german

In all seriousness, idk what happened to the pole but the car was a write off. We had just broken up, and I only know all this because the debt collector called me while trying to find her.

              • @MrPants: Read the username to make it even more funnier

          • @Mild October: Tell me about it… I drive one (an MG4 X-Power - faster than your car)

          She says hi.

    • Generally silly old kents in MGs that cause accidents. Refer to DCOA videos for many examples.

      • +1

My only crash so far (not at fault) was with one of those godawful MG HS SUVs. Green P Plater changed lanes into the side of my car without looking. Now I instinctively keep well clear of all MG's…

        • Haha a 1 month old MG HS ran into the side of our car. Changed 3 lanes at once.

      • +1

DCOA admin and followers are all silly old kents

Guess not all shit drivers can afford a Ranger

      • +14

Ranger Danger is real. Got hit by one reversing last night :|

      • +1

This made me laugh hard. Thanks.

      • +1

It's what you buy after you wreck the 2nd ranger.

    • +8

MG has replaced Suzuki Swift as the red P plater car you have to lock in while driving near

    • was thinking the same and the first comment i see is this LOL

    • +2

Honestly I'd wonder if it's not the cars fault.

Absolutely horrific software and driving experience.

The amount of bing bongs and dings and shaking you get trying to drive a country road in Australia made me want to drive into oncoming traffic.

    • They have nothing to lose

    • Well, you have now! !

    • What do the good drivers drive?

  • +1

    Good price, terrible name

    • +1

      Name was vibe-named

      • +1

Need to aspire to the lofty heights of naming like the Mahindra XUV3X0.

    • It's British name, do you want a Chinese name ?

      • +2

        Dui

      • Mao's Garage?

      • Lots of ailing brands have been bought by chinese comaonjes with capital, Quad amplifiers are now owned and made by a chinese company, same with nokia phones, motorola is owned by lenovo. It’s a quick and cheap way to build a brand.

  • +20

This is the non-turbo with CVT - really horrible driving experience with odd delay applying power and very underpowered.
The turbo version is only $24,990 and infinitely better to drive

    • +2

Expect to see cars get less powerful in future years with these new vehicle efficiency standards get tighter and tighter, essentially priortising reduced emissions over power. Worth noting the reduced emissions does not always translate greater efficiency either…

      • +9

But but but the WEF said if we pay more taxes & accept shittier products we can change the weather.

        • +5

did you write that with your tin foil hat on?

          • -2

@BargainHunterD: Aww I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were so vulnerable to being offended by jokes.

          • +2

            @BargainHunterD: He's a fellow Queenslander

          • -1

@BargainHunterD: Not really tin foil hat given there is plenty of publically available information for WEF policies and loads of videos where members talk to policies and methods of implementation. Motives and agendas aside, cant really argue with the realities we're seeing.

            • @Xizor:

cant really argue with the realities we're seeing.

              What reality are YOU seeing?

      • +14

Swapped the turbos and V8s for a Tesla and I am never going back. FAR more power, way faster and FAR more efficient. V8 sound is the only loss, and I can live with that.

        • I agree with the sentiment overall. Although for me, the fun factor, the enjoyment i got out of driving especially a RWD with some gusto under the hood… it's just not the same. Everyone is different of course. I'm still kinda hoping for an EV to come out that resonates with me enough that i can also afford, but not found it yet.

          • @Xizor: Even the most basic ev goes as hard as your bog standard 2L turbo. Long range versions do like 4.5secs, which is c43, stinger, mustang territory. All with having Max torque at low rpms.

            • @krisspy: "most basic ev … Long range versions do like 4.5secs"

              Lost me there.

              • @SetTheFaqUp: Not sure what's confusing, you have basic models, long range models and performance models.
                7 secs, 4.5 secs and 3.3secs; 0-100 speeds respectively.

                • @krisspy: Nvm. I didn't read properly and thought a long range is a "basic ev".

2.0T these days runs 5-6 seconds btw.

          • @Xizor: Try the BMW i4. It feels and drives very very similar to an ICE and I believe they've done that on purpose. Cracker package if you ask me but for now I'm super stoked with my Superb 206tsi

            • @Rimas: They're ugly AF though, I saw one today and had to double take as I didn't recognise it as a BMW.

        • +1

Looking at a couple of 5 year old used cars. The ICE powered one had a fuel tank of 65litres and still had a driving range of 850KM . The EV had under 80% battery capacity with an un known driving range and several software glitches 🤔

          • @Ade99: Yeah, 5 year old EVs would be the worst buy of the century. That's when they were using the consumer to do alpha testing of crap batteries etc. Keep to hybrids for a while especially if you value your time on the road (so much time wasted on charging over lifetime of the car and I guarantee you will be twiddling your thumbs in the middle of no where) and resale value and real world range in hot weather with AC on, headwind, slopes etc.

        • +1

just bought used BMW for $40k, was close to buying EV, now wish i had. Next car will be EV. Keep hearing about cheap used EVs flooding the market but when you try and buy one market isn’t flooded and not vastly cheaper than new.

      • +3

        *ICE cars

        • Odd that ICE cars cause warming…

      • Eh it will be a wave that comes and goes though, just like in the 70s

      • Yes, that's obvious with the electric vehicles dud to low power and torque.

      • I wouldn't have expected that to be a problem for MG given their range of electrics? Unless you're suggesting that they'll put out shit cars so they can sell an ever diminishing number of credits to companies that primarily sell ICE vehicles.

      • Laughs at you from my 320kW EV

    • +9

Note: for those reading, the $19,990 MG3 is not underpowered for the light hatchback segment. The comment above is only relevant to the heavier ZS SUV

    • Tbf, a bike is probably infinitely better to drive than an MG.

  • +8

Make sure to buy it in white to keep the price low

  • +5

4* ANCAP being a 2025 model? The December 2025 versions have 5* ANCAP

  • +4

The 3 is truly an awful car (the ZS is not much better). If you want a cheap new city car, get the Picanto - a cracking little motor

    • +8

Unless you're driving 1000+ km a week, hard not to recommend an electric BYD Atto 1 for 23k

      • +12

Have a look at the latest Carsauce video on YT about the Atto - pretty damning. Also, it's realistically around $26k. I think that any EV that's halfway decent is at least $35k - which is still not that much.

      • +2

26.5k with on road costs… when they do drive away $23k it's a winner. They definitely have room to move the price down.

        • They'll do it when stock improves.

        • Seriously, have a look at that carsause video. It has some real problems

          • +6

@R4: "Before I traded the corporate suit for steering wheels, I worked in management consulting at KPMG and in the aviation industry after finishing my Commerce degree at Melbourne Uni".

            Sound pedigree for automotive journalism.

            • +1

@Big L: well he did purchase it and if you watch the video its not the classic journalistic spiel. i'm not too fond of them but the video seems to point out some undeniable flaws, without having to have been to cambridge to figure them out. He did say he liked the design so i understand you doubt his credibility :)

            • +1

@Big L: "management consulting at KPMG"
For those that are aware of what management consultants do - PowerPoint slides.

KPMG os easier one of the lowet tier firm for management consulting.

If anything, McKenzie and the likes. But then, they are sales people that can crunch some numbers. Nothing technical people like an engineer.

              • @SetTheFaqUp: KPMG management consulting is a side hustle for their accountants.

            • @Big L: @Big L, Lets be fair, automotive journalism doesn't need too much qualifications. Anyone with reasonably intact senses and IQ 60-90 could do it. The carsauce guy points out obvious flaws with the BYD Atto1 S#it box. It looks like a car designed for a developing world but not Australia. It will not mix with our roads or our favourite Rangers.

              • @Naigrabzo: I agree. I could probably come up with a reasonable road test and review in a suburban car as it doesn't need to be driven hard to come up with a synopsis on its overall capabilities.

I do prefer hearing from someone unbiased and educated or experienced in automotive design or manufacturing though. Someone who has been in the industry and has tested cars around the world.

Australia is a dumping ground for shitboxes, between our lousy lemon laws, poor environmental standards, pitiful fuel quality and high profit margins, we end up with a plethora of cars that other countries wouldn't touch. It's not because we're special. It doesn't take a degree to see the flaws in these pieces of sh!t, but what differentiates them from an opinion at the pub?

Any "online journalism" that looks remotely like a grift i.e. John Cadogan, Carexpert or this guy selling cars via his site, isn't worth the time to read or watch their reports.

      • What about byd dolphin or atto 2? Is it worth spending a bit more?

    • The Kia Picanto with the 1.0 lt turbo, or the 1.2 lt motor ?

      • +1

The 1L turbo was a limited edition. They stopped selling it a while ago.

        • +1

I read that. But when they said, "a cracking little motor" did not think the 1.2 lt would fit that bill.

          • @ozhunter68: The 1.2 is okay with a manual. I have the turbo and was lucky to get one before they were discontinued worldwide around 3 years ago.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Only currently available as 1.2l non-turbo. Look, it's never going to win a grand prix but it certainly is nippy. PWR of 63.5kW/t is not too bad for a $20k car

    • Picanto is a micro car though, perfect if you never leave the city. I wouldn't recommend it on any open road let alone suburbia.

      • -5

It's definitely a city car and okay in the suburbs. All EVs are essentially city cars in 2026 as charging infrastructure is virtually non-existent and can't be driven too far away from their home charger

        • +4

All EVs city cars ??? What about if you live in the burbs ? Unless you are covering 300-400ks in a day you can charge at home overnight or at a local charge location.
You would assume someone purchasing a complete EV would be investing in then correct electrical requirements at the place of residence. Obviously this is much hard if you live in a rental of highrise

        • suburbs in melbourne and sydney now extend along way, can’t recall last time i drove more than 400km in a day.

      • I'm actually surprised how well it can actually travel down the M1

      • Picanto is perfect for Japan, where you have very limited parking, narrow roads and small commutes with no roadtrips (all done in fast trains). Not for Australia.

    • +2

      a cracking little motor

The 1.25L engine in the Kia (micro hatchback) has a weaker power to weight ratio than the MG3 (a larger light hatchback) 😂

      • I've driven both - there is no comparison

        • You’re right, I’ve owned both (and am currently on my 3rd MG)

        • Have you driven the new generation or are your comments based on the old MG3 with a 4 speed auto?

  • +5

One of most unpleasant cars i drove
