Switch & Stay for 30 Days & Get 40,000 Everyday Rewards Points for Electricity & 20,000 EDR Points for Gas @ Origin

390

I got an email from Everyday Rewards about this offer, which seems like a pretty sweet deal to churn.
I just signed up to switch to Electricity only, so I should get a healthy 40,000 EDR points ($200) in approx 45 days. Plus, you earn 1 EDR per $1 spent on your bills.

I will note Origin's Electricity rates aren't great, but that becomes irrelevant when churning for points for a short period of time.

The link does say "Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards", but still worth checking out.

It’s giving power-couple energy
Get up to 60,000 Everyday Rewards points – that’s $300 Rewards dollars off a future shop!

Add your member number during sign up and get your points in about 45 days. New residential customers only. You must stay on your plan for at least 30 days. T&Cs apply.

Electricity – 40,000 points
Collect 40,000 points when you sign up to Origin Everyday Rewards Variable electricity plan. T&Cs apply.

Natural gas – 20,000 points
Collect 20,000 points when you sign up to Origin Everyday Rewards Variable natural gas plan. T&Cs apply.

Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards.

Bonus Sign-Up Everyday Rewards Points

You will be eligible to receive bonus sign-up Everyday Rewards points, as out in the Details section, if you;

(1) maintain the Energy Plan for a minimum of 30 days;

(2) provide your Everyday Rewards membership number to Origin when you sign-up to the Energy Plan; and

(3) haven’t received any other bonus sign-up Everyday Rewards points in the preceding 10 month period for the fuel supplied under this Energy Plan for the supply address.

The bonus sign-up Everyday Rewards points for electricity and/or natural gas will be deposited into your Everyday Rewards account within approximately 45 days after your Acceptance Date.

The amount of one-off Everyday Rewards points given are based on the residential sign-up address.

If you opt in and purchase the 100% GreenPower electricity add-on when signing up to this Energy Plan, you will be eligible to receive a one-off Everyday Rewards bonus points. GreenPower can only be added to electricity plans.**

  • Can you delay the start date on this?

    • Yes, you can. They'll transfer it in the next billing cycle. My gas account switched after about a month.

    • I'm not sure you can delay electricity? I went through the whole sign in process up until the last step to confirm, and there was nowhere to put in a connection date. I still need to stay another week to complete the 45 day Econnex deal, so I'll have to wait until then.

      • Offer is available until Tuesday, 24 March so you can just wait.

You could say you were moving in and provide a future date, but easier to just wait and do a switch.

        • +1

Yeah it's definitely easy to wait, but what I've found with some of these deals is that it's actually beneficial to sign up early. I've had a couple of deals where you need to stay with an ISP for 30 days to get a reward, but I couldn't join immediately, so I provided a date say 20 days later that I wanted to start. That 20 days wait was then included in my 30 days, and I wound up getting the reward after only being connected for 10 days. It's happened multiple times now…

If the link is accessible via official site, it is generally not targeted. Just the offer is distributed by EDR as without it, no reward.

    • +6

I wouldn't count on it, on the linked origin page it says

Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards.

And if you try to sign up to the plan from the homepage rather than this link it offers just 5000 points.

Looks like some plans offered are 12 months contract e.g. VIC, although they state "At Origin, all our residential and business plans come without any exit fees or lock-in contracts. This means that you can change your plan with us at any time without worrying about paying any exit fee."

    • +1

Surely that second sentence that completely contradicts your point should have been reason enough to put the brakes on sharing this post?

The 12 months is relating to any benefits that come with the plan, ie solar FIT or additional discounts.

  • Based on my energy usage, 7.5kwh/day (2 people, no solar)

    Powershop
    25.22c x 7.5 + 104c = $2.70

    Origin
    27.09c x 7.5 + 123c = $3.26

    .56x45 days = $25

    $175 rewards dollars ahead.
    $3.26 x 45 days = $146

    ~$50 profit

Churn and burn makes sense for me.

If you have solar this probably is a great deal

  • Does it involve a credit check and are they likely to reject churners?

    • it says you're eligible only every 10 months

    • Does it involve a credit check
Yes, they did it for me when I signed up for Gas 6 months back.

  • May be a silly question, but we only have electricity in our apartment… wondering if it's possible to setup a gas plan

    @74.77/day x30 day requirement = $22.43
    $100 back in points
    = $77.57 profit

    Has anyone tried this??

    • You can only do this if you have a gas meter. If the previous gas account has been cancelled, then you would need to pay connection (and disconnection, if disconnecting after) fees, which would wipe out your profit.

hmm didn't see such offer from my ERD, still can get the point?

    • I put my address and I can see this deal. However, I log in to my reward account, as new customer "Collect up to 15,000 Everyday Rewards points. That’s 5,000 points for electricity, 5,000 points for natural gas and 5,000 points for internet." I am not sure I am still eligible for this deal.

    • No

Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards.

      • yeah very interesting, the offer appeared on my EDR app last night which was not there before…

  • -2

There is a one-off distributor connection fee for electricity that is up to $126.29

    • +1

Did you disconnect from the grid?

    • In my understanding, it's applied if your property requires a new connection to the grid. (for example: newly built home)

  • I'm already with origin so didn't get it. Maybe I should port out and see if they'll send me an offer

  • "haven't received any other bonus sign-up Everyday Rewards points in the preceding 10 month period for the fuel supplied under this Energy Plan. "

    Why are you so cruel?

  • Received the email but getting this error when trying to sign-up - "Sorry! This plan isn't available for you right now.
Looks like we're facing issues processing your request at this time. Please try again later or call us on 13 24 61, and we'll be able to help you."

  • "If you opt in and purchase the 100% GreenPower electricity add-on when signing up to this Energy Plan, you will be eligible to receive a one-off Everyday Rewards bonus points. GreenPower can only be added to electricity plans.**"

Do you need choose green power as well?

    • It just means selecting green add on won't affect your bonus point, you don't have to.

  • I loathe power companies for what they charge. We are basically unable to be without power and with that we are stuck with them.
like most ppl I pay with CC and Origin have a "Card Payment Fee"
We get a bill and you have to pay it, right so Origin also has a "Payment Processing Fee" on top too
Gonna charge me for making the payment you want me to pay, what a privilege

    hmm 30 days for 20k qff…..

  • Got the email and going off my current rates I'll save $1.25 per month as well as the points, SOLD!

  • Has anyone gotten lucky with using their spouse details within the 10month exclusion period?
P2 had signed up previously using the same supply address in the past 10months.
Worth taking a shot in P1's name and details?

  • i got 5000 or $30 today for gas. Now waiting to churn again

  • +2

Got 60000 points for gas and elec even though they haven't even switched gas properly yet.

Elec switch was 32 days ago

    • noice. My elec switched couple of weeks ago but gas is going to be switched eom. guess will take early profits and run!

  • +1

My plan activated on 23 March (on paper) and still going through switching from providers but my points already landed. Woohoo!

  • +1

40,000 points dropped and I still haven't been switched over to them.

    • when did you sign up?

      • 26/02

  • Hmm I signed up on the 13th March, electricity has been switched and gas is meant to be today. No points yet :(

    • +1

      Points have finally arrived

      • +1

same. My gas connection hasnt switched yet. Looking at Ecconex offer now.

  • It's weird how people are receiving their points on different dates. Some after only a few days and others after a month or more. My sister got her points after only 10 days. It seems that around 32 days is the most common in here? I'm currently on day 25 and they still haven't appeared….here's hoping they arrive in the next week.

I'm still waiting for the $60 Woolworths rewards to arrive from this deal ——> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/953157

It's now been 39 days with that one and I haven't seen them yet. I'm now wondering if I've done something wrong.

    • 40,000 points arrived today on day 29. Still haven't got the $60 Woolworths rewards from that other deal on day 43. Doesn't look like I'll be getting that.
