I only recently built a 9950X3D system with this cooler. It works fairly well but doesn't have the fancy LEDs and displays of competing coolers.

I paid $179.99 and thought I got a good deal!

  • Thanks, just got one

Thanks OP. I actually just went and bought the RGB version instead which is also on sale.

RGB version is nicely priced too…

That said, I imagine we shall see more of these types of deals as PC pricing bites and all these types of peripherals start to stockpile.

  • These are loud.. even at 40% fan speed they are very audible. has anyone replaced the fans for a more quite operation?

    • I thought artic fans were supposed to be relatively quiet, that's disappointing. Well you can always spend a fortune on Noctua fans, or phanteks T30 fans.

      • +1

The fans are loud above 50%, but they are also massively overspec for the pump, so you just need to clamp them down.

You lose 2-3 degrees at peak power draw for a given chip, but even then it remains a top 10 360mm cooler.

    • Interesting. I only find them loud when my cooler isn't fitted properly. I had an NVME heatsink that was blocking the cooler (ASUS X870e Creators Edition).

Once I removed that I found the cooler far more effective and fan noise not really an issue at all.

    • i have the 280mm rgb version but i replaced the 140mm fans with noctua 140mm industrialppc 2000rpm pwm fans and they are very quiet and i never hear a peep from them

  • Not bad. Paid 199 for the white one. It is a little cumbersome than 240 rads I was used to. Too chicken to try the thermalright.

  • Why is the 280 the same price? So weird.

    • +6

Because 280mm only has like 10% less radiator surface area than a 360mm, the cost to produce is likely extremely similar

      • And bigger fans, which they sell less of, so the cost of production of 2 140mm fans is probably about the same as 3 120 mm fans, is my guess

While at this price it doesn't really matter too much - for some reason the LF3 pro's perform the worst on X3D chips. Even losing out to the cheapest 360 AIO's. Hardware Canucks did a few videos recently regarding 360 AIO's. It wasn't an issue on the previous liquid freezer generation and arctic can't work out why apparently.

    Damn cheaper than BF

  • I have this on an intel setup, excellent cooler for the momey.

  • "Cool" deal. But is anyone feeling neighbourly and has a cup of RAM to spare?

    • How about a nice cup of…

  • Becareful when installing this and get ready to put a lot of force when screwing in the pump, it notoriously difficult to do. For me it was definately the most annoying pump i ever installed lol

if you can get a friend to help that'll be better

There are some tricks on youtube if you are struggling

But yes performance is awesome and its very silent once you configured the fan curve

    • Some of the people having issues get the install wrong by having the left and right risers upside down. You need to see the words LEFT and RIGHT showing. The instructions provided with the cooler could be improved substantially.

      • could be but in my case I followed every single instruction arctic has, written and video and it just wouldnt go in, it was really stubborn. I what i did in the end was follow a trick from a random youtube video which just helped instantly, basically it was something simple like not tightening the risers below the cooler fully till the cooler is properly screwed in, none lf arctics instructions mentioned that.

I also just had a small screwdriver hard to put force in it but I used the same tools multiple times in the past for other AIOs for friends/myself and never had this level of issues lol

        • +1

I agree it can be tricky and does need force. I made the upside mistake and when I fixed that it wasn't hard. I was worried forcing was going to damage my mobo and/or CPU

  • Can anyone recommend an alternative good cheap water cooler for a 9800x3d?

Ideally RGB and not too loud.

    • Any thermalright aio can cool that chip, its quite an efficient cpu. Thermalright is way cheaper than the arctic while having the better performance, The new arctic stuff cant cool x3d chips as well for some reason. Just pick your favourite looking one from amazon, its cheapest there

      • Awesome, thanks, there’s a lot of models any you reckoned? There are some V2 models as well, price similar to these, are they worth the extra?

  • Was going to get this but didn't realise my CPU is so old they've since changed socket types. You need a mounting kit for LGA115X/1200 which is sold out everywhere apparently.

    • aliexpress

      • Will a generic 1151 mounting kit be suitable or does arctic have a specific one for their cooler?
