Can you still claim the Cashback?

    • No, because it is "Damaged Box" sale item.

      • I've gotten Canon Cashback on a damaged box a couple of years ago, and I bought that through Sun Studios as well (Canon's now-defunct studio).

Obviously, different company, but may be worth trying.

        • +4

Same here, I got a a few amazing damaged box bargains from SunStudios eBay stacked with eBay discount codes and Canon cash backs. Guess it’s unsustainable…
Anyway Sony cash back T&Cs specifically state:

… the official Sony Australia eBay Store (on brand new products only, excludes any refurbished and box damaged products)…

          • @Buy2Much: Damn. I'd still give a go though, just wouldn't factor it into the value equation.

I'm guessing you jumped from Canon to Sony then? Canon's taking too long to open up the RF mount so I'm thinking of jumping across.

            • +2

@BestTechAdvisor: Actually went back and forth between Sony and Canon…and in between Lumix, Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon, Leica…

              • @Buy2Much: Username checks out

                • +2

@BestTechAdvisor: I bought them at really cheap deals like these (sometimes stack with cash backs and store codes), had some fun with them then sold them to recycle the fund to buy the next one, losing little money in the process…a bit harder to do that now there’s no eBay $0 FVF listing so I might keep my current camera for much longer…

            • @BestTechAdvisor: Let us know how you went with the claim

              • @Skykiwi: Sorry, didn't end up buying the Sony.

I was reading about the rumoured DJI Mirrorless and decided I'll wait and see how that turns out.

                • +1

@BestTechAdvisor: That would be interesting. Considering DJI and Leica have a strategic partnership, and DJI is a member of the L-Mount Alliance, and also DJI have a majority stake in Hasselblad.

    • I submitted a cashback claim using the Sony invoice rather than the eBay invoice and I've just received an email saying it is approved, so I'll see if the $200 hits my bank account. Would bring the price down to $1689.1 for the A7CII

      • Wow, good fortune in the new year 😀

      • Did it work?

        • +2

          Yep. Got the cashback 😃

  • +1

They don’t post to Perth, WA ?? Weird

    • +1

Interesting, I thought they only do that on bulky items like TVs… I think Sony mistakenly copy and paste shipping because they normally use Australia Post for small items, not couriers.

    • That really sucks

    • they used to.. damn that sucks now

    • Blame to auspost. Post to Perth is more expensive than sea shipping from China to Sydney.
But that is only for bulky item.

    • Just secede already

      • +2

Won’t be good for the rest of the country though LOL

Western Australia (WA) contributes approximately 16.5% to 17% of Australia's total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as of 2024-25, serving as a major economic driver. While representing about 17% of the national economy in size, WA is responsible for over 45% of Australia's merchandise exports and a significant portion of national business investment.

        • +1

Exactly, they could hire a mercenary army and be done with us no-good Eastralians.

  • Great price for the 7R V!

    • -1

The discount isn't actually that good for the 7R V due to Sony's cashback promotion at the moment. You can get the A7R V for ~$4200 from Amazon Australia right now, which is one of the authorised retailers listed on Sony's terms, which makes it a net price of $3700. This is of course still cheaper but not as big of a percentage discount as the A7C II is at the moment.

      • +10

That price is sold by third party Becextech, a grey importer. You won't get rebate. Click on Other Sellers, choose an Australian store, the cheapest shown there is $4848 from NoFrills.

        • +1

          Oh. Good call out!

          • +1

@dust: George's Cameras has it for $4488 and shouldn't be an issue to price match.
Brings it down to $3638 after $500 CB and upsized $350 cashback from Shopback.

            • @dogedjr: can George's price match Amazon?

              • @Skykiwi: Unlikely they'd match Becextech as it's grey imports, but had no issues getting Sony to price match George's in the past and stacking with boosted cashback offers

  • +5

Absolute cracking price for an A7C II. I've been using since it came out as my A cam for my media business, its brilliant.

  • When it says "30-day returns. Seller pays for return postage", does this include for change of mind?

    • Wanna do the buy now think later approach? 😂

      • Nah - been doing too much thinking, and want to just go for it! But nervous it might be too small for my hands.

    • +1

It should, so long as the camera comes back in the same condition that it was received

      • Thanks mate. I went for it anyway!

  • +7

Oh no. My wife is not going to be happy with me tonight.

    • +3

The pain is short, the fun is long!

    • +7

“Honey guess what? Was gona buy you roses for valentines, but got mysef a camera instead.”

      • +3

I should just move my pillow to the couch now.

        • +2

On the bright side she won't talk to you for a month.

      • You could use this to uh … remember your valentines night forever.

        • Take quality photos of your belongings and post on marketplace, for when you need to vacate her new house she got from the divorce.

    • Shouldn't she buy you this for Valentine's?

  • +1

    Unreal prices. Sony a7cii

  • So tempting, but I have so many lenses for my A6700 which is already so capable…

    • +7

Resist the GAS and put it towards a photography trip instead.

    • The A6700 is great! (The smaller size if travelling is also a huge bonus!)

      • A6700 is great but its basically the same size as an A7CII (I owned both). Though the APS-C lenses are definitely smaller and cheaper so there's an advantage there.

      • +1

The A7C II isn't much bigger than the A6700. It can also take APS-C lenses but at 13MP.
I had an A6500 and A7 III, I replaced them both with the A7C II.

    • sooner or later you will upgrade to full frame

    • +2

I’m non committal so the relief when the silver a7cii sold out is real

  • +1

    I don't need it. I don't need it.

The price of the A7CII is great, if I was to start shooting now I'd probably go with it. Get straight into full frame affordably in a body similar size to my Fuji X-T30 (Yes I know the lenses are much bigger).

But I already have heaps of digital and film equipment and a Viltrox Air 25mm F1.7 coming. Must resist GAS.

  • +3

Why does Sony have so many TVs, cameras, and earphones with damaged boxes?

    • They aren't box damaged. They're just unsold.

    • +1

they gently dent the box of unsold stock with a velvet cloth and sell if at a discount without upsetting the retailers

    • I recall a previous comment say that Sony sell "box damaged" items as they don't want to undercut and upset distributors and retailers.

    • What they do with all the returning devices? Renew and resell as box damaged to keep customers happy?

  • +1

I got one of these a7rv last year. Had less than 20 shutter count.

No issues with it except me not knowing how to open the memory card slot and it had a giant sticker on the box.

    • How much did you pay?

      • +1

        $3479 and got TRS.

        • Was that “Refurbished”? “Box Damaged” should have 0 count.

  • Insane prices holy moly

  • Both A7C ii OOS

  • Yep all the A7C’s are gone. 😕

    • Only took 2 hours in all…

  • box damaged, hopefully they didn't drop this from too high of a height.

    • Limited risk IMO because Sony explicitly advertises the actual camera/lens as new, unused and undamaged.

    • My experience from box damaged cameras were crumbled corners or thumb sized dents (intentional or not) on cardboard boxes. None affected the contents.

    • I believe warranty still applies too so if it's actually broken you might even get a new replacement.

  • Paid 2600 on my A7C ii last year and thought that was a good deal, damn.

  • Are the boxes still under warranty?

Also, it's just a way for Sony to not undercut retailers, so they pretend the boxes are damaged. Otherwise the retailers would be angry that the manufacture undercuts them so much.

    • Stated on all their listings

All items available to purchase on the Official Sony eBay Store are covered by a full 12 month Sony manufacturer warranty from Sony.

  • Sony Alpha 7R V is my main camera and I love it, but it was released 4 years ago, surely there is a new model around the corner.

  • Is the Alpha 7R VI coming out soon?

    • +1

It would be due for a new iteration soon but it won't be for $3600, probably $6k+ given that the Sony A7 V is selling for $4.7k, anything under 6k would start competing with their own base model.

If you are looking at cameras in this price range Sony doesn't really discount the older models that much beyond a certain point when new ones launch, they just increase the prices of new ones instead.

The Sony A7IV (2021) is still going for 2.9k+ and you were able to buy them on sale at that price in 2022. The A7RIV (2019) is still on sale today for 3.4k (3.6k - $200 cashback) too.

So yeah, unless someone was actually going to spend $6k+ on a camera the new model probably wouldn't be relevant?

      • Good point. I am still rocking the 7III. The sensor seems to accumulating a lot of dust despite that I have not changed my lens for over 3 years.

        • Unmount and lens and blow the sensor.

          • @dust: Do you blow more dusts into the sensor. Your user name suggests you are the dust expert.

        • Look up K&F cleaning sensor swabs in AliExpress around $10. OB deleted the link I tried to post.

  • Can stack discount on lenses too, and they are a few great deals on damage box lenses, just picked up the 50 1.4 GM for $1206
    https://www.ebay.com.au/str/sonyaustralia/Lenses/_i.html?sto…

  • +1

fark saw this too late, such a good price good find op

  • End up buying the 7R V and 50mm 1.4 Lens.

    • Has missus been advised?

      • She commented that I am buying again :). I am going to pair:
50mm 1.4 GM with my A7 III for portrait and street.
        16-35mm F2.8 GM with this A7R V for landscape.

  • +1

Annoyed all of metro Perth is closed off

    • I reckon they made a mistake applying shipping exclusion across the board instead of just bulky items. Australian Post would deliver all over the country at the same cost for standard size items.

      • I emailed them to say that but they said for now nothing to wa. I literally bought a lens 2 days ago and it was fine

Description didn’t say wa either which is weird

  • Comfirmed last one has gone

  • +1

Couple of A7R V’s back in stock.

    • Sold out again.

      • Was A7RV under the same link? I was checking throughout the day but was showing as out of stock every time.

        • Yep same link, someone must have grabbed them by the time you got to it. You can see in the listing's Revisions when they added: 13 Feb, 2026
13:36:08 AEDST Quantity. There were 2 when I saw it half an hour later.

  • One A7rv back in stock

    • I have made a mistake. Last week, I bought the IV instead of the V. I will return the IV as I have bought the V today.

  • BTW, I received my Sony Alpha 7C II yesterday. Box was not damaged at all and was sealed like new.
I'm starting to think Sony label these as 'box damaged' so as to not upset retailers with the selling price.

  • any deals on Sony A7 Mark IV + 28-60mm F4
