I have a detailed post for the Sony 85” TV deal (including shipping locations) but OB does not let me post more than 2 in one hour…

    • +19

Its because we don't like to buy2much

      • +2

Fair enough. That’s the best way to save 😉

    • +1

Box damaged newer model Bravia 5 85” $1835 delivered (8 in stock) https://ebay.us/m/EFPLdU.
      Bravia 5 vs X90L comparison.

      • @Buy2Much how are you getting that price?

        Best I can see on the 85” Bravia 5 is $2399 - BDREFURBTV15 (maxes at $100 off) - TENOFF ($229.90) = $2069.10.

        Cheers

        • +1

Sorry, not sure if Sony changed anything since I last looked. I thought I saw $1835ish when I tested applying the codes and check out…

  • +3

Pricing seems odd considering the jump from 55 - 65 is $550+ but then only $325+ for an extra 20" sized unit

    • +4

That's quite common for TV deals, to entice you to buy larger size TVs.

    • +10

Have you ever been to Mcdonalds?

    • Is this your first day on earth?
Literally everything these days with multiple options is to get you to choose the middle or upper end for just a little more.

      • +2

Not debating that at all, but the jumps between tiers generally are more sensibly staggered. This is not

      • Well the middle one is the worst priced of all

  • +1

What if it arrives damaged? Horror stories on here.

    • +3

At least yours arrived lol. I've been waiting nearly a month so far.

    • +19

Sony sells thousands of TVs, and how many horror stories do we have here? like three?

      • +1

I had a box damaged one arrive which a broken screen. They were great, picked it up within a day

However they don’t send a replacement, they issued a refund and I had to purchase another one

        • +2

The horror series are where the box is fine but the screen is cracked

          • +1

@reactor-au: Not that I would ever suggest it but if you get some scissors and stab at the box to line up with the panel damage it can help your case when submitting the photos.

          • @reactor-au: Happened to a Samsung curved monitor, huge split right down the middle of the screen but not even a scratch on the box. Then read up on it, that model was prone to screen cracking.

          • @reactor-au: Thats not something that Sony can control. Whomever quality checks the product can only go by the packaging without unboxing it

    • +1

A sony refurb we bought arrived damaged, just sent them photos of the box being dented and of the broken panel on the screen and they arranged courier to collect and refunded us.

    • I saw these stories, and filmed the opening of it.

      It was fine though.

Waiting for C8k to hit the Sony ebay store

  • +6

I ordered the 85-inch last week and got a delivery estimate toward the end of March and only on a Tuesday.

I tried cancelling the order due to false information about timelines but Sony rejected the request.

eBay support immediately said that Sony was in the wrong but Sony refused to refund.

I provided Sony with the transcript of the chat with eBay support in which eBay said that Sony was in the wrong, and Sony still wanted to argue, but ended up cancelling the order.

    Never again!

You millennials don’t have much gumption about you.

    • +3

Holy shit that sounds like a nightmare.
Watch all the people trying to defend Sony on this deal.

      • -3

Sony is a premium brand and they generally look after customers pretty well. Try doing the same with Samsung and you'll see a completely terrible response

      • I call a spade as I see it. I speak from my personal experiences with after sale customer support, got resolved with Sony everytime (sometimes took longer than I like, but always to my satisfaction), 0/2 with Samsung. YMMV.

  • +10

Friendly advice: unboxing video, starting from courier arriving.

    • lol yeah, all the ebay sony horror stories…

Too little too late, these need to be priced dropped maybe 2 - 3 years ago, while TCLs are pumping mini-LED TVs every year at a reasonable price that often get massive discounts a year later.

Maybe this is why TCL is now taking over their TV division.

    • +1

Sony has been TCL mini-LED panels and some of their LED panels for its TVs for a while now. The profit margin for TVs is too small for Sony and other Japanese TV companies already exited the TV market because of that.

Even Samsung and LG are not competitive in making mini-LED and LED TVs and they are concentrating on OLED TV panels because the Chinese manufacturers can't quite compete in that space yet, so they still enjoy a somewhat decent profit margin.

Some people think it might be worthwhile to get Sony TVs before TCL takes over.

      • From what I've seen people are keen on the Bravia 8 and what not, so yeah still OLED in this case, there'll be very few people that care about the X90L now and rightly so, again referring to my previous comment.

        • -1

Sony OLED TV panels are made by Samsung or LG. Samsung and LG aren't interested taking over another TV division. They could be facing the same issue Sony is facing now in a few years time.

Samsung and LG also run regular promotions on their TVs. Their junk class mini-LED TVs introduced in 2025 had been heavily discounted and priced below TCL ones (because they are actually worse than TCL). They could already have TCL making some of their mini-LED TV panels. They have no interest in improving Mini-LED. I generally don't like VA panels, but with mini-LED TVs (and LED TVs), it is hard to avoid VA panel based TVs nowadays.

Boxing Day sale, pretty much all TV manufacturers provided decent discount. 2026 TV models coming up, the 2025 models would most likely be on clearance sooner or later.

          • +2

@netsurfer: Yeah people don't praise Sony for what OLED panel they use, they praise them for the processing.

Boxing Day sale, pretty much all TV manufacturers provided decent discount. 2026 TV models coming up, the 2025 models would most likely be on clearance sooner or later. Yeah aside from Sony lol, like I said, Sony missed the mark with X90L discount, this would've been relevant a few years back.

            • @Tbargain12: For me, mini-LED TVs are hyped up too much. VA panels still annoy me. Anyway, this Sony TV uses a VA panel also.
TCL mini-LED TVs are priced somewhat reasonable (for now), but clearly, there is an extra cost for that improved mini-LED backlight. I'd rather an OLED TV, but too expensive for me at the moment.

              • @netsurfer: Yeah fair, both have their use case I suppose, people planning to put a big TV in a bright living room without wanting to worry about burn-in should just stick with mini-LED.

I'd like to see more mini-LED monitors to be honest, or better implementation at a cheaper price. I've got both OLED TV and monitor as well as a Mini-LED monitor, good for my use case, but yeah hopefully it just gets cheaper from here.

                • @Tbargain12: Well, we are most likely going to see less IPS based Mini-LED TVs given TCL pretty much dominates Mini-LED TV panels. 120Hz+, gaming would be a factor and VA panels simply can't do 120Hz well (IPS is a bit better). OLED TVs have burn-in and some have noticeable vertical banding issue with grey colour background. Most mobile phones use OLED nowadays.

Large Mini-LED TVs are heavier. Mini-LED on Macbook Pro is IPS type and I am still annoyed with VA on Mini-LED TVs. There is a big difference with monitors (tend to be 32 inch or less) vs TVs. A lot of PC cost effective monitors use edge lit backlight with no local dimming, and we generally don't complain about them. Large TVs, backlight uniformity issue is more noticeable.

                  • @netsurfer: Yep mine's a VA mini-led monitor, the local dimming settings on it is a bit strange, but I'm only using it as a second monitor, not too concerned. I did notice the monitor is heavier than LED/OLED of the similar size.

Yeah I've transitioned to OLED fully for gaming, don't think I'd be going back to anything else any time soon.

      • +2

Still rocking a Panasonic plasma that simply refuses to die.

        • Panasonic OLEDs are also great apparently, but we're not getting those anytime soon.

  • I bought a 98 inch Bravia 5 (box damaged) from Sony Ebay on 27/11/25.

    The ETA was 01/12/25.

    it arrived on 02/02/26…

    • +1

Could be worse. Good guys 4km away from me delivered a washing machine and dryer one week late and even charged me delivery twice despite knowingly consolidating the delivery to profit.

  • Are these the guys that send you crushed screens then make it hell to return?

  • Sheit, bought the 85 inch one for $100 more 2 days ago

    • +2

I think there’s an eBay guaranteed price for 48 hours?
      https://pages.ebay.com.au/best-price-guarantee/

      • Thanks, I tried it now and this is the response I got.

As per checking this amount I see that you applied a voucher in the eBay site, for the best price guarantee to applied if you buy something on eBay and find the same product cheaper elsewhere within 48 hours.

        • Bummer that they don’t price guarantee cheaper products on their own site (other sites like Temu allows it).

  • Deals over I think?

You can only apply one voucher code to this purchase.

Edit: never mind, i had 65 only in the cart and it said this, then i added 85 and it allowed 2 codes. deleted the 85 and it stuck.

    old tv. Pass

  • Seller (Sony) is 92% positive ratings, I never bought a thing on ebay from sub 98% positive seller :|

    • To be fair, they got hit by a bunch of negs from people who got their price error Wh1000Xm6 headphones orders cancelled couple months back. Including multiple negs from the same accounts (including 9 negs from 1 account, 5 negs from another…). I think their ratings went down 3% around that time.

Ordered from previous deal - 02/02/26
    Delivered on time - 11/02/26

Tv up on the wall, all ok, no issues

    I'm after a 55". This or TCL C7K?

    • Curious too

  • I ordered x90L 85 inch on 14/02 and meant to be delivered today.

But it has not been shipped from the warehouse. Contacted Sony Ebay and got a reply saying still looking into it.

Has anyone from Brisbane / QLD experienced the same?
