The alternative is they declare all gift cards null and void.
Gift cards are unsecured, consider lucky they still worth something.
It's unlikely people buy their gift cards and hold on to them, 2 typical scenarios:
1) Bought discounted gift cards to pay for a purchase, would have already used.
2) Received as gift, which would usually be $100 or $200. Easily spent on a $600 barbeque.
"Easily spent" - not everyone wants to/can spend an extra $400 just so their $200 voucher doesn't go to waste.
But gift cards are unsecured, they are way behind secured creditors, so they do not have to honour any of them.
Surely they would rather stay in business, but they are not in a position to do so and doing the best they can to mitigate a bad situation.

Weber is like Apple products when it comes to retailers selling them. Easily the most popular, but they make jack all margin and likely lose money price matching loss leaders.

Make SURE you register direct with manufacturer if you can to ensure your warranty… i purchased a Gozney through BBQ galore late last year and now have extended warranty via gozney directly….
Given they position they're in, the customer either loses GC face value or support in the future. Safest thing the GC holder can do is a chargeback tbh - as much as I dislike performing them.
They are owned by private equity so don't expect generosity.

One of those places i never understood how they survived so long, their prices were always horrendous.
They definitely have a strange setup. The nearest BG to me in Midland has a Weber store right next door. The Weber place always seem to be busy whereas the BG store is usually empty. I'm not sure 2 barbecue shops right next to each other is a good idea. BG used to be a great store, I bought our log burner there about 18 years ago and got a fantastic deal but I haven't shopped there for years as their prices are not competitive.

Thankfully don't have any gift cards with them! Wonder if closer to any close down time they loosen it to $1 for $1 instead. I imagine there will be plenty of people who won't bother trying to use their cards out of spite, emotionally rather than logically of course.

I only stepped into their stores one time in my life and that was to buy a Weber Baby Q when they used to sell them.
Frankly surprised they havent gone bust years ago.
One close to home closed 2 years ago. Huge store, hardly any customers.
My 3 burner hooded BG machine just out of warranty suddenly misbehaved when the right hand knob melted by flames from a leaking gas valve. Contacted BG who said I would have to replace the complete gas rail with 3 valves for the cost of $200. Needless to say the rubbish has been sent to recycling.
Private equity was quick on this one. Bought in December and dead by February.
Hope not too many creditors got burnt!

I feel like bbq'ing is something the current generation do much less than previous ones. Same goes for smoking, drinking and gambling. Once the current boomers expire, expect to see more closures like this as the appetite is just not there.
Another business with a 20th century business model that was way past its expiry date. Australia desperately needs some outside expertise for this kind of thing.

Harvey usually owns the land the stores are on, basically the McDonald's business model of owning the land the franchisees have to rent to run the stores. This rent is income for Harvey Norman on top of the royalties for sales each store makes. And a lot of money Harvey Norman Holdings makes is from financial services, like extended warranties or credit terms.

Yet if we didn't have preferential voting, a majority of votes would've gone to Labor. This way the minority parties and individuals get a chance to represent in parliament and hold the government to account.
Any stats for how much of the primary vote the previous governments attained? That kinda matters if you're going to use that statistic to make a point.
@whatgift: 34% the second lowest primary vote for an elected government in history. The lowest was 2022 - 33%. Nothing to brag about.
And you can't claim that Labor would get more votes if there was no preferential voting! It has been in for many many years.
@Goonda: With a non-preferential voting system, there would really only be 2 parties worth voting for, and it's fair to claim that many of those votes would not have gone to the coalition.
While the statistic regarding the primary percentage is correct, it's not significantly lower than governments of the past, so painting some kind of minority narrative really doesn't hold up. Edit: Also, one reason for the lower primary percentages comes down to more people voting outside the major parties, which most people would consider a good trend.
They are altering the terms of the gift card redemption, pray they do not alter it further.
