Balatro is a poker-inspired roguelike deck builder all about creating powerful synergies and winning big.
Combine valid poker hands with unique Joker cards in order to create varied synergies and builds. Earn enough chips to beat devious blinds, all while uncovering hidden bonus hands and decks as you progress. I like the game but couldn't quite get addicted at the level a lot of people say they did. Once you get past the basic difficulty tiers it seems like a bit of an RNG crapshoot of sorts that I found more frustrating than addictive?
Nonetheless, it's a bit of fun and worth it at this price.
The harder stakes can definitely feel like RNG, but keep in mind someone got completionist++ (Gold sticker on all jokers) on a fresh profile without losing a run or resetting. At least 95% of gold stake runs are winnable if you have the skill.
For me. This and HADES might be the best games I've ever played.
I played this for two months straight via Game Pass Ultimate as my only game. That's $72 ($36pm x 2) I spent renting Balatro when I could have owned it for less than one month's cost.
This is stupidly addictive. Don't get the mobile version as you'll have it with you all the time.
Looks like the android mobile version is on sale for $10.49. I enjoyed it on playstation. Assume it'd work well on mobile?
I only play it on the phone and enjoy it, but haven't quite got addicted yet…
The animations feel stupidly time-consuming after a few hours of gameplay. I recommend the Speedup Mod.
if you own Slay the spire, steam will prompt you to purchase balatro through the balatro+sts bundle, which somehow made it 15.80 instead of 17.56.

found this game very shallow and basic and im no game-brainiac. Just seemed paper thin to me. Maybe like 3 strats total and not much else going on. YMMV I guess.
How long did you play for? I think it might be one more complex games I've ever played.
A decent chunk + I googled it too to make sure I'd been exposed to most of it. Maybe I'm just old and been around the traps too many times… or maybe slay the spire is the goat :)
Yeah I'm an old geezer too, but I never got into slay the spire, so maybe it's just new to me.
a decent mobile game too, I've sunk a few hours into it lately.

I doubt i could ever have the time to get into a game like this… because i am already hopelessly addicted to it on my phone!
