  • Ordered, thanks

  • Worth the upgrade over the 2024 garden series on sale?

    • @Hereforwinedeals absolutely - if you were only to jump on one of our deals all year - this is the one. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Ordered (but forgot the free order code…doh!)

Last few clearskin orders from various places have been pretty good. Might as well give you guys a try too.

    • Hi @anhtarus. Thanks for the order and the note. Please PM me your order number and I will hop in this evening and refund the shipping fee. :-)

        All good.
You guys do good service and your kind response confirmed that.

Happy to support local industries and consider it a tip for exemplary services.

        • Kind words indeed that are greatly appreciated. Thank you. Richard :-)

  • Hello Richard, I haven't had a chance to try this wine yet (hopefully tonight), but are you able to provide some insight on the bottles used? When I first pulled out a bottle it looked almost like a magnum compared to a regular bottle. Based on a quick weigh on the scales it looks like it's actually just a lot of extra glass that makes the size so imposing - around 850gr vs a regular bottle at 350gr. It's possibly one of the most impressive bottles I've seen - it certainly has a very premium "look and feel" for a cleanskin - hopefully the drinking is just as impressive. Thank you.

@slackarse Thanks for the note. You’re absolutely right, it’s a heavier-weight bottle which is significantly above a standard lightweight bottle. From a sustainability and freight perspective, our preference is generally to use lighter-weight glass (we reduced each bottle size by one around 5 years ago and save around 20,000kg of glass each year). Markets such as Scandinavia and most airline programs actively prefer (and in some cases require) lightweight formats for environmental and logistical reasons, and we’re very aligned with that.

However, presentation expectations do vary by market. In parts of the US, certain Asian markets and China in particular, there’s still a strong perception that bottle weight equates to quality. For this specific program, the buyer explicitly requested a heavier bottle format to meet those market expectations.

That said, the glass gets attention but what matters is what’s inside. Hopefully when you open it tonight, the wine more than holds its own. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Makes sense. Thanks Richard.

        • How was taste and what flavour notes did you get?

@silverthorn333: My apologies, but unfortunately I don't have the golden tonsils of a wine critic and find it very hard to convey flavours and smells etc. when it comes to wine. I rate wines on a very simple 0 or 1 system - 0 means I would not buy or drink again, and a 1 means I enjoyed it and would buy/drink again.

This wine I put firmly in the 1 category. It looks great in the glass, smells good and tastes very nice. Quite fruity and in particular I find the amount of tannins quite pleasing to the mouth. I expect it will age quite well too as it is still quite young.

I actually bought another box of this prior to even tasting it just purely on the strength of the bottle (maybe I have a bit of Chinese deep down in me somewhere) and do not regret that purchase. May even consider a third case if it hangs around long enough but also have to deal with my wife who keeps telling me we have enough wine.

@slackarse: @slackarse That’s a great rating system - would you buy it again or not. We're all masters of our own palate and knowing what we like.

Glad you’re enjoying it, particularly the tannin structure, that’s exactly what gives it the ability to age while still being approachable now.

And buying on the strength of the bottle alone? We’ll take that as a compliment. As for negotiating storage capacity at home… that’s a separate skill set entirely. :-))

              @slackarse: Great review!
