@spaceflight: That's not how it works.

            • -8

              @Guybrush57: That's exactly how a deposit works

@Binchicken22: Says someone who doesn't know how a container deposit scheme works

                  • +2

                    @spaceflight: You clearly don't understand.

I'll explain it to save this dumb back and forth going any further.

The business that use the containers e.g coke, Pepsi etc have to pay a tax of around 20c~ per can now (which then obviously just gets passed onto the consumer i.e this "deal" where a paying nearly $1 a can is now a "deal")

Then, we get to save them all up in our kitchens and garages, bag them up, drive them to one of the depots using our fuel, then we spend 5-10mins of our time dropping them off, then we can 10c back per can/bottle.

I've bolded the critical information here…

                    • -1

@Binchicken22: I agree with you man, cans in vic used to be on sale at what .56 a can ? Now $.86 is considered a bargain, you can cry inflation but it’s just showboating pointless gestures making me pay more.

I lose 30min+ of my life and petrol for $12 a month.

At the end of the day it all just equals to me wanting to vote out this government so much more, too bad the libs can’t get their crap together

So as I said, you get the money back.

                      It's a deposit and that's how a deposit works.

@spaceflight: Is someone gonna pay back my time and petrol costs too?

                      • +1

                        @spaceflight: You don't get back:

                        • 5c administration fee
                        • 1.5c GST
                        • storage costs
                        • time costs
                        • fuel costs
                        • -3

@Guybrush57: Yes you get back your deposit

That's exactly how a deposit works

                          • @spaceflight: The deposit is 16.5c and that excludes additional time/storage/fuel/wear&tear costs.

Run me through your maths of how you got your 10c to equal 16.5c?

                            • -3

@Guybrush57: The container deposit is 10 cents, you return your container and you get your 10 cents back because that's exactly how a deposit works

                              5c administration fee

                              Not a deposit

                              1.5c GST

                              Not a deposit

                              storage costs

                              Not a deposit

                              time costs

                              Not a deposit

                              fuel costs

                              Not a deposit

                              • @spaceflight:

The container deposit is 10 cents

                                Wrong again. It's 16.5c

All of those costs are from the deposit scheme. I've bolded the keyword to help you.

If you're still adamant on your position, can you please tell us all how we can claim our overpayments since the Government's own websites are wrong and your advice was the only correct advice in the country?

                                  No it's 10 cents, it's a 10 cent deposit

Or is it 20 cents like someone else who doesn't know what they are taking about said?

All of those costs are from the deposit scheme

I have highlights the relevant word which you are being very confused about.

can you please tell us all how we can claim our overpayments

                                  What overpayments?
You are entitled to your 10 cent deposit to be returned and you get that.

There is no entitlement for you to have any other scheme costs returned to you.

                                  You get back your deposit

That's exactly how a deposit works

since the Government's own websites are wrong

                                  Are they?
Or do you not understand what they are saying?

                                  • -1

                                    @spaceflight:

You won't because you can get the money back

There is no entitlement for you to have any other scheme costs returned to you.

Your two statements contradict each other and if we aren't entitled to have our costs returned to us then we are paying more for our drinks. Thank you for admitting you were wrong.

                                      No they don't.
The first was replying to the deposit amount which you get back.

There was no discussion of scheme costs then.

Thank you for admitting you were wrong.

                                      Don't incorrectly speak for me

                                      • @spaceflight:

                                        Don't incorrectly speak for me

Thanks for the offer, but I won't need to given you've incorrectly spoken for yourself (costs reimbursed) then later backpedalled your stance to join us correct people (costs not reimbursed).

                            • @Guybrush57: Each container at retail has 15c added to it. When you add GST that becomes 16.5c. Somebody then gets 10c back.

                              1. 10c refund to somebody
                              2. 5c to run the program (I suppose this is how the depots make their money)
                              3. 1.5c GST remitted
    • +1

And what an absolute load of shit that is… People are so dumb cheering it on too "asking" for it to be on more types of containers, it's like they don't realise they are actually paying more than 10c, just to have a (profanity) around to then get their 10c back again…

      • Isn’t the main point getting them recycled rather than as a replacement for having a job?

        • +1

Yeah, that's what our recycling bins are for…

      • +2

        True

      • -3

Yes increased societal recycling at a net zero cost to you. How infuriating.

        • +1

Definitely not net zero cost to anyone.

      • -1

We've effectively hired the countries elderly and disabled to do rubbish collection at below minimum wage and I save a bunch of space in my bin by being able to leave all my cans in a box beside it. I'll cop an extra 20c on my daily soda habit for that.

  • Zero says free delivery tomorrow for me in sydney

  • Superior zero sugar OOS

  • +3

    That's expensive!

    • In comparison to what?

      • -1

They often around 50c a can. This is not a deal, it's normal price.

        • Often $18? where?

I have never seen Coke under Pepsi prices, which is $0.75 a can.

You get them at $0.50 a can and often? where?

          • @Hugh G Rection: Gosh it was a long time ago when it was 50c or below

            • +1

@mrtin: That's what I figured. @lew380 is claiming it is often 50c a can. I would really love to know where he is getting "50c a can often"

    • +1

lol, i did the same since they don't S&S for the coke zero

    • +1

And taste way better than coke..coke yuke

  • +2

Previous purchase $21. So these have gone up 50% in a couple of years. The CDS (container deposit scheme) does not explain that discrepancy. Pure profiteering

  • Ah ordered then realised not S&S for zero

  • -7

    Not a deal.

  • I get 0.8866666666666666666666666666666666666666666666667c per can on my calculation

  • +1

I think it should be $0.886666666667 and not 0.88666666667 cents per can. That’s a100 times difference

  • -1

coke hasn't been a deal in years, last purchase october 2021 $24.75
