These were $129 on Amazon in October last year.

Also waiting for this price again to buy another unit.

Also got it for $129 back then. I haven't gotten around to adding this to Home Assistant yet, but goddamn the app and "smart" features are hot garbage. You can basically set a schedule and that's it. I want it to automatically turn on once PM2.5 goes above a certain number. How is that so hard?

Not a deal, bought these for 129

  • What is the utility of this item especially in Aus?

Ever tried breathing in air during bush fire season?

exactly. our hospital group bought a massive bunch of samsung air filters(covid) and I thought they were useless until the burnoffs. Their little readout count went ballistic and inside the room it was clean AF. outside you were choking on smoke

        • samsung air filters(covid) and inside the room it was clean AF

which model of Samsung air purifier unit is this?

          • @jimmykim: Samsung AX60 looks to be. Has the digital readout on top, and from memory it would idle at like 5ppm or something. Then during the burnoffs, jump to 50-70 and turn red lol

      • Or living in or near the city

Dust, allergens, pet dander, cooking smells, smoke

Lots of people die from traffic pollution in Australia

Also good for allergies and smoke.

    • I have one of these and one of the bigger models, excellent for clearing smoke, dust and pollen.

    • I live 8 metres above 10 lanes and many trucks.

  • I have this and it’s great for our bedroom, however got it cheaper as per comments above.

Newb question… my daughter is allergic to our cat and dog - constantly sneezing and blowing her nose. Would this help with that?

    • +4

Might be time to put them up for adoption

      • Or your daughter..

I have one of this in our master bedroom. A number of observations you may consider:
    1. If you are hoping by using this you don't have to dust your bedroom anymore, you would be mistaken. However, I can see our bedroom would take longer before it gets visibly dusty. So treat it more like a dust mitigation tool rather than dust elimination tool.
    2. The filter does need to be changed every now and then. So far after owning it for a year, I have had to replace the filter once. There will be an icon indicator to let you know to change it. Ignoring this long enough will render the unit inoperable until you do a reset to the filter timer. The filter is not cheap.
    3. It has a PM2.5 indicator which I try to match with my pollutant detector device. It never matches or even close to it. As an example, right now the unit has a PM2.5 of 5 ug/m3 vs my detector's 15ug/m3. However, when I tested by spraying say, an aerosol, both devices' PM2.5 detection jumped up and this air purifier unit would then boost the filtration operating speed. So I think the pollutant detection of this unit is fairly ok.
    4. You can get this cheaper than $199 but since I used it to clean the air of my home office, I claimed it 100% in my last tax return.

    • good suggestion re tax deduction in my home office

      • If you think it's needed.

    • +1

The PM2.5 indicator is pretty dependent on how much air is moving through the device, you might find if you change it off auto and onto medium/high fan speed it will be more accurate

      • Is that so? I might give it a try tonight. I'll have my unit (set at medium) sitting literally next to my pollution detector.

Last night, the purifier detected a jump to 34ug/m3 but my pollution detector was still sitting at 14ug/m3. Nothing changed. Just out of the blue.

Not necesarily a bad thing but just to highlight how random this unit's PM2.5 detection can be.

  • How effective are these getting rid of cooking smells? My whole house smells after cooking, even the bedrooms upstairs with the doors closed.

We had a K-BBQ the other day and the smell did go upstair and triggered my unit to boost it's filtration rate but after not so long (say 5-10mins), bedroom didn't smell anything.

      I think it's quite good.

      • Thanks mate! Will give it a go then. We love doing kbbq at home but the house smells like meat for 3 days after.

        • Oh. Definitely not 3 days I can attest to that. Where this air purifier is located (and another one, its smaller cousin AC1215/75 in another smaller bedroom), after an hour or so, you won't smell it anymore.

My son was having regular, low level respitory issues and I suspected it may have been the air quality in his bedroom (possibly some mould). He's not the kind of kid to open windows etc to freshen his room. I bought one of these back in November and he has had no issues since then. This may be coincidental and be influenced by other things but everytime I go into his room it smells "clean and fresh", rather than the previous slight musty smell.
I rate it very highly. I got mine for $139 last year so not ATL but well worth the price.
