Optus: $100 Cashback on $180 or $350 Prepaid SIM (Including eSIM) @ ShopBack

230

Upsized cashback, not the best deal but should be able to get 180 days mobile for $30 if it's honored on the $180 plan which is reduced to $130 ATM.
I've queried Shopback if this specific plan is eligible, I'll update in the post or comments if I get a confirmation.
Edit: cannot get a clear answer out of SB but per CDG's comment, it tracked at $100.

Details:
NBN Home internet (excluding BYO plans) - $150
Postpaid Mobile (Device & Plan) - $150
$180 Prepaid SIM (including eSIM) - $100
$350 Prepaid SIM (including eSIM) - $100

Beware - keep track of all the transaction, order ID and take a screenshot of the deal on the app.
Optus-Shopback tracking is very poor and they'll always fail to track the cashback. You have to raise it with Shopback, provide all the evidence and hopefully they will honour it.

They had this same offer during black friday. I was able to claim the actual shopback in Jan'26 but my friend was straight up denied.

    • I wholeheartedly agree :D
I did the black Friday thing and got optus to refund twice, then a week later, it tracked in SB. It's a s***show.

      • So it took a week to actually track? It does show up in the shopping history for me as "Checking for cashback until 14 March"

        • Yes. I think it was actually more than a week, I'd submitted a claim, theyd adjusted it manually (to a fraction of the advertised amount), then about a week after that it showed up as pending for the right amount. It's already refunded the sim though and bought an Amaysim one. So I currently have 4 entries in there for 2 purchases, 2 for the lower amount and 2 for the correct amount.
Nothing has tracked still for this time round, showing the same as yours, *
          "checking".

    • Agree. SB is trash. Avoid if you can

I would rather buy the $300 one from Woollies for $200, and with 10% discount, GC, etc., it comes down to about 170. Yes its 200Gb but most people dont really need that high of data anyway.

    • how can you buy it with GC?

      • +2

You can use woolies GC to pay for simcard along with other groceries. Have done it several times.

Refer to previous woolies deals, multiple confirmations

    Similar deal to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/944571

Not sure if SB or finder is more reliable. Finder deal is available until 25 Feb

    • +1

Finder has an odd clause stating you cannot be an existing mobile customer. I have 1 other number with Optus ATM so Finder is no go for me.

      • Having said that, SB states "Cashback is eligible for New Customers on a completed sale (new services only) submitted online" so who it's also a bit of a gamble.

  • activation date on purchase? my plan ends in March, want to make sure i can wait couple weeks before activate/transfer

    • Per comment below, activate within 28 days.

  • on Optus website, there is a discount from $180 to $130. So after $100 cash, only $30 for six month?
a bit too good to be true

    • +1

      OP wrote about this.

    • -1

Doubtful. Exclusions advise that any store promotion unless advised otherwise would be ineligible. I guess ud find out after 120+ days lol

  • +2

    bought $130 card, , $100 tracked

    • +1

activated or not? i bought mine not tracked yet

      • -2

        not yet, i ordered sim

        • mine is not tracked yet

  • +1

Surprised no one mentioned the never ending saga of Optus mobile outages, the last one happened only a week ago https://www.skynews.com.au/business/tech-and-innovation/optu…
I would not use them for my primary number.

  • Okay I took a leap of faith and placed an order purely based on users CDG’s comment.

I’ll wait for a bit to see if it tracks.

Was also thinking about the similar Finder Optus deal but this one seemed more straightforward being cash vs gift card and if it works will pay out faster.

If it doesn’t work, I wasted money when I could’ve bought a Kogan or Boost 12 month sim instead.

If it doesn't track (mine still hasn't from this morning), optus chat are happy enough to refund, just tell them you didn't get the cashback. Maybe with enough refunds they'll improve their processes.

  • I bought one last night, no tracked, when I click the shopping history, it shows "checking for cashback until Mar 13 2026", so does this mean it will tack after about 1 month? never have this experience before with SB

    • Yes. Cashback timeline. Purchase, Tracked in 25 days, Confirmed in 120 days.
Cashback is subject to meeting the T&C.

      • +2

i am gonna report missing cash back after 2days waiting period anyway

    • +1

I could not report a cashback from SB app, it passed 2 days after I purchased. but the sim card came very fast, I got it yesterday. Do we need to wait for 25 days to report a missing cashback now?

      • +1

looks like the same, need to wait till 13th Mar before putting a report missing claim

  • +1

Has anyone tracked except CDG ?

    • not me

    • Not yet…

    • Not yet.

Purchased yesterday morning, sim delivered this afternoon.

    • Bought this morning no track either

    • Bought this morning, still no tracking

  • Anyone else get a message/pop up saying GW client blocked

  • Bought today 5.57 pm. Tracked email came at 6.25pm
Got a GW client blocked errors on optus site. Just kept pressing proceed. Worked eventually

    • second one on the forum got tracked, mine still has come through yet

  • I am not taking a bet.

As T&C's mentioned that: Store promotions, discounts or special deals unless otherwise stated.

    And $180 sim is discounted.

  • +7

@gotyourback , please have a look for this promo from SB, it looks many people did not get the cashback tracked, and now we could not claim/report the missing cashback at app as before( 2 days after purchased), please suggest what we should do. thank you

  • It had been 18 hours and still no tracking

  • So for those of you that got it refunded through Optus, this was obviously prior to activating the Sim but had you received it in the mail?

    • Yes. Received but not yet activated. Cancelled via chat

      • Awesome, thanks. I don't need to activate it until the 18th March so I'll submit the missing claim on the 16th and see how I go.

      • How to contact Optus via chat without creating an account?

  • +2

Mine didn't track as well 😞 what a joke you're SB

  • According to this thread's comments as a very similar deal, it looks like we will all have to contact Shopback to manually adjust the cashback.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/933133

  • Cancelled my order too, nothing tracked after 2 weeks and I couldn't raise a case with SB until a couple weeks more

  • +2

I emailed SB again, they've now applied it to my account and are aware of this thread and "are aware that only a limited number of transactions initially tracked during this promotion" and have stated they are reviewing claims.

    • +1

How did you get a claim in? I tried the other day and it said I had to wait a couple weeks

      • +3

Just keep annoying the bot til it lodges some sort of ticket for you. Then they will email you. Reply with your issue and it should be able to get sorted from there.

        • +1

Yep, that's the way. I just told the bot "I want to talk to a human"

          • +1

@gunslinger: Thanks, I also used the live chat bot to forward my case to a human - it took a bit to get there, that bot is stubborn.

Will wait for their email next Monday/Tuesday. Hopefully I get the same resolution as you :)

  • +3

I also emailed SB and got a reply saying something along the lines of "order not eligible" but given a $100 goodwill credit to my account.

The store discount $180 —> $130 invalidating the offer cannot stand. There was no other $180 product to purchase which means the deal was advertised but never attainable, hence illegal practice.

    • +2

Crazy that it's such disparate messages for the same issue.

  • does anyone successfully get Optus refund? how did you do that?

    • If you don't have an account, I think you have to call them. This should be the number tel:133937
