I'd be all over this if memory wasnt the price it was. Stuck on AM4 for the forseeable future :(

    Anyway, Good Deal.

    • Yep, stuck on AM4 with 128gb ram

      • +22

Must be so hard for you

        • +22

It is and my AM5 gofundme isn't going as well as I hoped. People can be so cruel.

      • +1

Yep, stuck on AM4 with 256gb ram

        • What a flex.

          • +2

@Tenshu: Just kidding, was going to say 129gb to beat old mate :P
Still got 32GB, should have got more when it was cheap but too much trouble getting the DRP4 off I reckon.
            R7 3700X and AM4 still going good since 2020.

  • +5

Good to see these deals coming back around. Got one about six months ago for that price. Paired with a Black Friday $840 rx9070xt. Should be good a few years to come.

  • +11

    great deal wow

just a shame that DDR5 ram is so cooked, otherwise i'd be heavily considering doing an AM5 build with this

  • +15

I'd be shocked if anyone is building a PC these days… Unless they absolutely have to.. the memory situation is beyond a joke

    • +1

You are right, but there are a lot of AM5 platforms out there and this would be a great upgrade. Within 10% of the best gaming CPU available.

      • +14

What rock are you living under? RAM prices are insanely high now.

        • +2

          Oops I forgot.

          • +8

@tenpercent: Alright I'll put my pitchfork down 🙃

      • +3

It is double to triple the price it used to be, due to AI-related demand.

        • -3

          Thanks for reminding me.

  • +2

I'm sitting with an AM5 MOBO and a 1000W PSU, waiting for the RAM to come back to be reasonable, not going to invest in anymore components before I grab RAM first, but then another nightmare is what if I secure a RAM and other components go to sky!!

    • +10

Just take the bitter pill and grab the RAM. If you dont mind used RAM, look at ebay or facebook marketplace.
You can ask to do the memory test before paying - if the seller is okay with it. But you need the rest of your PC basically complete.
No chance the RAM prices coming down anytime soon. The supply glut is not getting better until 2028 (predicted).
This CPU is at very good price.

      • +3

People have to buy used RAM now. Which is perfectly fine. Lots of PC RAM has basically a lifetime warranty. As they rarely fail. If they do its usually within the first 6 months. Used RAM is the only option now.

      • Supply glut?

        I think you mean shortage

    • +7

What is your timeframe for HODLing? RAM does not appear to be coming down anytime soon due to the AI consumption.. Other industries are being impacted as well by the RAM glut. At what point to do you bite it, so you can at least use your existing parts? Isn't there a tangible cost loss due to parts you own just being idle? Storage is also going up, so if you need storage, (solid stage and spindle) keep an eye on prices.

      • +3

Yeah I'd be jumping on this deal - at least it'll offset the price of RAM a little bit.

Even if the AI bubble does pop, RAM isn't going back down. It's like GPU's after the mining phase - once manufacturers raise prices they don't bring them back down. Especially when there will be such a high demand from the consumer sector.

Even if you just get 1x 16GB for now so at least you can use what you have.

        • +2

I agree. The cost of sitting on other parts doing literally nothing would drive me mad.

      • It’s not a glut. A glut is excessive supply. It’s a shortage.

    • I have a 5+ years old HP Omen gaming laptop with RTX 2060 in good working condition, so this PC build was more of a future planning in case the existing one dies, so that's the situation atm. I bought MOBO and PSU combined for $250ish, and was happy to wait for a year or so but looking at those comments feel like the RAMs not coming back to their early prices.

    • +5

There's a point where the rest of the hardware will have lost more money than you ever save here.

What do you do if RAM is priced 2x higher in 1 year's time and you have 1 year old parts that you paid full price for?

      Just buy it now.

    • +2

Alright, I’m sold! Picked one 😬

      • Nice work mate

    • +1

Sell Mobo, pickup a cheaper AM4 build and wait it out till AM6

      • When will AM6 come out, and what would it bring?

        • +1

Probably around 2028-2030 at this point, platform and technology improvements as previous generations have obviously.
The point being an AM4 build with a 5800x3D (pickup 2nd had from FB/ebay an such) or 5800x/5700X paired with a 9070xt or 5070 will last you long enough.
AM4 is still very good in the current market.

Alternative is just buy the ddr5 ram at whatever cheapest price you can as others have said

    • +1

You might be waiting for a few years sadly. It's not predicted to stabilise until 2028

  • +2

    I got it for $392.80 on 11/11/2025 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/932582#comment-17067348
I think this is ATL. Under a Dollar difference. So is a good buy still.

    • +2

Entirely possible people will get similar depending on bank. I miss 11/11 pricing.

  • Can stack the deal with the nice 10% shopping credit cashback that Team ozbargain unlocked this morning :)

    • +3

Nah this one is ineligible as the "10% cashback" in red text under the price is missing.

      • Ahh I see

  • Damn, got it for $414 a few days ago.

  • +9

    Here for marshmallow A$200 comments.

    • +1

I think even Marshmallow would be happy with this price. Its almost $200 cheaper than the local prices.

      • +2

I doubt it, he already bought at that price with his special coupons.

        • I paid 589 after a $100 ebay voucher and also received a free game 2.5 years ago. I am surprised its still over $600 without any free games.

      • +1

        Marshmallow would be happy

I don’t know if he’s capable of feeling this emotion

    • +13

Another affiliate boosted post for a CPU that’s been cheaper multiple times already. People will upvote anything with “X3D” in the title. Not really a deal if you’ve been tracking this properly.

      • Put your X3Ds out for Marshmallow.

      • You're definitely being named in his next massive blog post that no one will read

        • +2

I was named 8 times already.

  • is it possible to replace the 8700f on my omen 35 with this cpu?

    • Technically yes. But OEM prebuilts are sometimes screwy and jank so check other sources.

      • probably have to upgrade the cooling system if it did work?

        • They're easy to cool, grab one of these - it'll be more than enough

          https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/cooling/cpu-coolers/1061…

Just check compatibility first if you have an Omen (physical size, mounting brackets etc)

          • +2

@jk82: Fairly certain Omen has a HP OEM motherboard where the brackets etc are different. To reddit and YT we go to be sure!

        • 7800x3d should be easier to cool than an 8700f

          • @BROKENKEYBOARD: would it fit the stock mobo?

          • @BROKENKEYBOARD: A quick google says the 8700f TDP is 65W while 7800x3d is 120W but will typically be up to 85W.
So definitely not easier but doesn’t seem like too much more. I would try using the original cooler and monitor temps to see if it’s an sufficient before buying a new cooler

            • @FireRunner: Ignore TDP, under real usage both CPUs should use roughly the same amount of power since they clock similarly. Problem is the 8700F doesn't use solder for the heatspreader so it can't pass heat through as fast.

  • +1

Tempting… current 7700 does just fine though especially at 4k with a 9070xt

    • +2

Damn that took me like 2 minutes to give in to my inner consumerism.

Oh well, i can just sell my 7700.

      • Nice!!

    • Damn that took me like 2 minutes to give in to my inner consumerism.

Oh well, i can just sell my 7700.

    • Same. 7500F though

  • +1

if this doesn't stack with any cashback % then it is nowhere near atl price

The previous deals stacked with a further 10% ish

    • An all time low price ex cashback* if we want to be pedantic. Given the price rises we've seen with components in 2026 this is a really good deal.

      • Agree a good deal! With the 13% TCB $30 cap CB last week I was hovering on the buy button for about $372 net …. then passed on it, thinking 'eh, it will go lower' haha

  • +1

I can afford this but I can't afford DDR5 ram, so I'll wait until AM6 to upgrade

    • AM6 / DDR6 / PCIe gen 6 will be cheaper?

Making AI robots will be more profitable than selling DDR6 RAM modules to OZBers.

      • +1

The investment capital and debt financing that's fuelling the AI boom isn't infinite, in fact it's rapidly drying up. There are now a lot of promises that have to be paid for but nobody's explained where the money required to keep those promises is coming from.

Making AI robots will be more profitable than selling DDR6 RAM modules to OZBers.

AI datacentres have proven to be good at incinerating cash but little else.

        • The AI hype train is still steaming ahead and we have some OZBers refusing to accept facts, instead prefer to believe Gemini's response (and couldn't be bothered fact checking Gemini). It's frustrating some people already trust AI so much, they don't bother checking.

Sadly, some people have renewed interests in PCs because of AI.

PCIe gen 6, DDR6, AM6, the expected improved speed will come with a discount? By then, we will want more RAM, faster SSDs, faster GPU (with more VRAM).

          • @netsurfer: Prices have to come down at some point. They might not come down before DDR6 launches but at some point DDR6 will cost a lot less than DDR5 does now!

            • @boozed: Anyone who wanted to build a cheap AM5 would have done so before. Memory makers have zero interest helping AMD and Intel with their upcoming CPUs (which require faster DDR5 RAM).

I can't think of a new game released right now that's a must play. Which part of AM6 is exciting? PCIe gen 6? DDR6? We are all utilising our PCs 100% and we all need more PCs now?

I know some people tease AM5 due to lack of anything really exciting. AM6 will magically change that?

              • @netsurfer: I have no idea what point you're trying to make, sorry.

  • Great deal. I would have jumped on it, but just bit the bullet last week for a 9800x3d new for $600 (marketplace).

  • +1

Any chance we see another AM4 deal like the 5700x ones from mid last year?

    • I'd say unlikely since the stock has dried up and it's not being manufactured anymore. The same happened with the 5700X3D. There was a surplus with low prices and after a while nothing.

  • -1

Noob comment: idk if its an AMD think but CS2 sometimes jitters. I have the exact same cpu. Had no issues with Intel. Have 4070TiS.

    • Can be various reason but basic steps may like this
      1. make sure you've installed AMD chipset driver package
      2. check GPU installation
      3. reinstall GPU driver
      4. try disable XMP/A-XMP
      5. update BIOS

    • I don't know if it's still a thing but I had stutters in CS:GO when I last played a while back until I fully disabled Microsoft's Game Bar (not just in settings app but making sure GameBarPresenceWriter was disabled with a script). I know it sounds like that would normally be something that's platform agnostic but GameBar messes with other processes priority and scheduling that may end up harming things on AMD but be fine to do on Intel.

    • its almost 98% window's problem than hardware……..if all method are used, grab a fresh SSD (tiny one, or even USB win to go). boot from there, (a fresh w10 or 11) see how that goes….thats why i always have a 128g. or 256g nvme on hand just for this, to isolate problem..

  • Dam been holding out until this deal… any good deals on AM5 boards?

  • Why so cheap? Legit???

  • 5800x3d still going strong and no plan to update anytime soon. Performance difference in 4k gaming negligible compared to AM5.
The price is good though and my next CPU will be from AliExpress.

  • +3

Already running a 7700 and whilst this price is nice I can't seem to justify the upgrade… I'm still playing on 1080p so I doubt I'd ever see a difference.

Resisting such a deal is challenging.

    • +1

Yeah I was trying to battle my temptation until it expired. 7600x here, but system is running 5070 ti in 7680x1440 triple screens in racing rig, so will always be GPU bound regardless. Glad the threat to my wallet has now passed.

@Clear presuming it would stack with this TCB UK CB??

EDIT: oh this one isn't affiliated, but I think other providers are (for a bit more $), which should get you out ahead after CB.
