    Ew, vodafone network.

    • +4

can confirm, i am on tpg half price plan for 6 months using vodaphone network, worst reception ever, in some spots in my house i can't even make calls

      • +3

Why did you first not do the Obvious as mentioned on here soon many times and test out whatever network you decide

first in your needed area by buying a cheap on sale 28 day sim first at the low cost of $1-$18 for 7 to 28 days ?

      • Yeah and I'm the heart of the inner west of dydney

        • -2

          dydney? Is that in NdW?

    • +19

      Vodafone works well for me

    • +1

I've had better luck with Vodafone than Optus. But with Telstra..

    • Unfortunately truth after I moved. But it's my fault that moved to Vodafone-less region.

    • +2

You know user demographics have changed when you get down voted for something the younger generation don't know about.

    • +3

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss; I was on the Telstra network for a good while, paying the premium as well with being with Telstra, and switching over to Felix I actually found my coverage was as good - if not better (eg. Having coverage throughout the whole of the airport tunnel in Sydney, which you don’t get at all with Telstra).

I’ve been with Felix now for about 12 months and it has been great. I don’t feel the urge for a second to switch back to Telstra to pay extra for less coverage.

    • -1

What an ill thought out comment. Do you live in a Faraday cage?

  • +5

Their support and network is worse.. Stay away from them… On sat/sun if you try to port out and there is an issue then you have to wait till monday to get is resolved.. Even on weekdays the support is not 24/7.

For network issues, their network will go off suddenly and you will be completely cut off… During normal days.. people will not be able to call you bcs you will be unreachable even though you have full signal

    • +9

Disable the 5g on your phone.

AUs 5g network is half useless when moving around and you will be constantly hit with tower renegotiation.

      • +3

No mate with boost, optus the issue never occurs

      • +2

No issues with Optus or Telstra on their 5G networks. Even when on a train. Moved to vodafone and I had the issues you're reporting however

    • +6

Even on weekdays the support is not 24/7.

      Which MVNO offers 24/7 support?

In fact, do any of Optus/Telstra/Vodafone offer 24/7 support?

      • Yes mate, if not 24/7 then weekend support is there.

Optus ,vodafone support is there late at nights

        • -1

          Vodafone owns Felix, so …

          • -2

@Wardaddy: I hope you use your brain before commenting

    • +1

This hasn’t been my experience with them at all. I’ve been on them for about 12 months and I had ported over my number too as an eSIM. No issues.

      • +2

Mate, i am not forcing anyone to not to buy it, i simply told my experience… When i ported with them for first time it was great but second time it was worse.

        • Yeah I was simply giving my experience as well? Lol, you mentioned in your original comment stay away but like with my experience they’ve been fine and I would recommend.

          • +1

@aquarisces: Did I force you not to go ? … if you are fine with it continue with it… I mentioned “stay away” a strong word of caution … You seem to be Felix representative… Anyways spam other people’s post like the comment made by bergensherper …. Or maybe spam the below genuine reviews..

    • Nonsense.

  • +1

any other provider with unlimited data?

    • +3

Not anywhere near this price point unfortunately

    • I hate that I'm considering the JB Hifi $89/$99 plan as I wanna upgrade my phone also…

      • Lock in contract, (profanity) that

  • +2

    Sooo,

Has anyone used this in a 5g Home router and not been kicked from the network?

    • +5

I know of people who went 6months but all eventually got kicked. Trick is to use a normal phone USB tethered to a Flint2 router.

      • +2

Trick is to change the base TTL on the router to 65. Ask Gemini 😉

        • explain more, please

          • +2

@jjj123: Gemini was helping me troubleshoot my home network, I just mentioned I used Felix, and it offered me this little pearl of wisdom:

Felix’s terms explicitly forbid using the SIM as a "home internet replacement" or in a "modem." They detect this by looking at the TTL (Time to Live) value of your data packets.

            • The Mechanism: When a packet leaves your phone, it has a TTL (usually 64). If it passes through a router first, the router subtracts 1 (TTL becomes 63). Felix sees "63" and knows you are tethering.
            • +3

@wisdomtooth: Thank you legend! I changed my TTL to 65. Hope will get full speed now.

              • @Micky14: After testing, the speed is still shitty. I think Felix doesn't love me. Will have to go to Telstra or Boost.
Felix speed from 1.x~10M during evening. High pings. 🤦‍♂️

      • Or a Mikrotik, I had a pre-5G era felix sim setup this way for a while.

    • +3

Did it in a 4G modem for yeeeeears until we eventually ended up with free NBN via the SSBI. Never had an issue.

    • Me, sort of.

My modem is a cheap pixel 7 and is connected to my router. Previously I was using the Samsung A8 Tablet 4G.

It is suspectible to network congestion but I'm in a medium density area in Sydney.

    • -1

Been on it for 6 months using a Nokia 5g router bought on ebay ~$100, speeds are fine but the router sucks, double NAT and cant configure DNS.

    • +5

Using it as home internet for almost 4 years, and the current 5G modem for almost 2 years, churning on the $20 deal every a few months (referral or deal like this one).

      • +1

        What 5g modem you using

      • What's the point of a 5G modem, if you're capped at 40 Mbps?

        • You want it to stay at a particular band combination to make it go "past" 40Mbps and have a good ping time (~20ms in my case). It'll go up to 80-90Mbps (for a few seconds) until throttling kicks in. Even in the 20Mbps era I was getting like 50Mbps "initial" speed with 5G. When I was using a Huawei B818 in 4G in the 4G/20Mbps era it also seemed to happily "speeding" past 20Mbps most of the time when carrier aggregated in a particular combination of bands.

    • i used the sim in the router for years, but i am only using less than 500G per month.

    • I use it instead of NBN, in 4G mode, USB tethered to a router. No point in 5G, it's 40 Mbps (although I usually get 45). No problem in the last three years of doing this. Last year they switched from IPv4 to IPv6, so you have to adjust for that. I use a GL-iNet Slate router (A1300).

  • +2

Great deal for a rubbish network

  • +9

Haha am I the only happy person with Vodafone?

    • +13

I'm using it for the past 3 years, earlier it was 20Mbps speed cap, and increased to 40Mbps in Aug'2025.
I had paused my Plan, and Felix gave me a returning-customer offer of 60% off for 4 months in Aug'2025 (so, $16 per month for Unlimited Data), so I took the offer and resumed my service.

I get consistent 40Mbps download and 30Mbps upload speed with 5G network, indoor as well.
Happy with them so far, and I use around 400 GB per month.

      • +8

i've been with felix from the very start… it's been a brilliant service. an issue or two but that was just coverage difference. but that's been the same with all networks

    • +3

Everyone complains about their network. But statistically Vodafone is the worst.

Although you're likely to have a much better time with it in Brisbane. Mobile network performance is mostly a function of spectrum allocation and VF has a lot of it in Brisbane. Whereas Optus dominates in Melbourne and Sydney and Telstra on the GC.

      https://insights.opensignal.com/reports/2025/10/australia/mo…

      • +1

        From your link :-

        Vodafone Wins Consistent Quality Outright
After jointly winning Consistent Quality with Optus in the last report, Vodafone has pulled ahead and won outright with a score of 80.6%. This score is an improvement from 78.7% in the last report, ahead of both Telstra (79.9%) and Optus (78.2%).

        Care to reassess your comment?

        • I would agree Vodafone is very consistent, it's one of the qualities of the network.

In Melbourne at least it is consistently slow and the data shows that. That's not as much as an issue on one of these capped Felix plans but it isn't great if you're paying full price from Vodafone direct.

    • +2

I am happily on the Vodafone network using Felix - happy to not be paying as much for the other providers and the coverage is always great for me?

    • +1

Have switched to it from Belong (Telstra MVNO) and it's about as good for my use cases, I wasn't using more than 40mbps most of the time, and this is unlimited whilst Belong was metered so to me, it's been a win

  • +3

What's pretty cool is you can pause your plan (I think up to 12 months) but you can still receive calls and SMS.

    • +7

Yes, pausing the plan was earlier allowed for 10 months or so. Now, they have reduced it to 119 days (effective 23-Jul-2025)
When you pause your plan, you service continues till the last day of the current cycle, plus 2 additional days (grace) - they give this without any charges. After the 2 days grace, your pause starts and you can keep the number for 119 days. As per their FAQ/Help Page, Incoming Calls and SMS continue for 90 days post the pause, but number is retained and you get network coverage with ability to call Triple-0 till 119 days.

They do remind you when you're nearing 119 days, so that you may decide to resume the service to avoid losing the number/SIM.

On their official FAQ/Help Page: How does pausing my felix subscription work?

      • +1

I wonder if this could be used as a cheap way to park a number?

        • Pay $20/mth for one month
        • Pause plan. That will last you 5 months (including the first month of service)
        • You then get "disconnected" - what does that mean exactly? Can you reactivate it after this within a period of X days?

Depending on what that "X" is, it might be a cheap way to park a number. So based on what we know so far, it's able to be parked for $20 for 5months.

Not better than Amaysim @ $15/yr via PAYG, or Lebara @ $10/yr via PAYG

        • +1

Yes it is, but not certainly the cheapest. Earlier the pause was allowed for 10 months. I had paused my subscription for almost 9.5 months, as I was using NBN but then they gave me an offer of 60% off for 4 months; which was very tempting, so I took it.

Also, the great part is, you still earn $10 per referral even when in Pause state. So, I had got about $60 thru referrals sitting idle in my account, and so I used them for $16/month for the next 4 months. Literally cost me $4 out of pocket for 4 months, with Unlimited Data.

I was also moving that time, so it helped me - I carried the SIM with me wherever I went, so wasnt stuck to a provider at a fixed location during that period.

For the question in your message though, here "X" = 0.
After 119th day, your number is permanently deactivated, so you need to resubscribe to a plan latest by the 119th day. From their Official FAQ/Help Page

You can pause your plan for a maximum of 119 days (starting from the end of the 48 hours) before you get disconnected. Don't worry, we’ll notify you when you’re getting close. Find out more about unpausing your felix plan on this page.)

        • +1

A deactivated number will be quarantined for 180 days. It’s possible to get it back from there, but it’s a hassle, and it’s not a guarantee.

          • @dongltron: Thanks for sharing but just curious, how do you know that?

Are you saying it's possible (but troublesome) to get it back within the 180 day quarantine period, or AFTER that period? Presume you mean within.

Could you elaborate on the "hassle" and why it's not a guarantee?

    • Yeah that's pretty great. Although a little inconvenient - I have to use a payphone to call my friends or family to get them to call me.

    • Yep, thanks everyone for the comments. I stand corrected. Just got a message today that I had 7 days to reactivate my plan or loose the number…

      • This is how many days after pausing your plan?

        • +1

I think I paused around November, so that would make it around ~90 - 119 days as it was indicated in a comment above.
Pretty sure I consumed 2 months off 50% and I should have 2 more at 50% off.
I'll resume and report back. Hopefully they don't charge me $40 for a plan I don't really need !

  • +1

If I purchase one in early March, how long before I have to activate it and get six months for $20 a month ?

  • I have had Felix for about a year now - only reason I keep it is that it offers global roaming to a country others don't. Apart from that network sucks.

I got rid of NBN at home with a view to using hotspot when in AU from the generous Felix allowance - speeds just like dial up and the buffering is so painful

  • +1

Located in inner west Sydney, speed barely can rich 5Mbps. Strongly recommend get a cheap Sim to try first.

  • It's good during off peak hours. But during peak hours can't stream anything. 🫠

    • They probably figured you're using it as home internet, and are throttling you. Gemini gave me some good tips on how to avoid that.

      • But I use a phone for hotspot. I thought it should be within the t&c.

    • Not the case for me. I stream everything in the evening.

  • +2

People rubbishing the network, isn't Voda and Optus part of a joint agreement now? You get both?

    • +3

only in regional areas when the other is absent

    • +1

No. The network expansion was for regional areas exclusively. Metro areas remain the same in terms of coverage.

  • +1

An alternative to this fake 5G is amaysim 4G. I routinely get 130 mb/s, and it uses Optus instead of Voda

    • -4

Fake 5G? Felix uses real 5G

      • +1

        5G capped at 40 Mbps — what's the point??

        • +1

5g offeres lower latency and more people can use at once compared to 4g

        • I get your point but finite data at full 5G speed is way worse.

          • @Guybrush57: This depends on use case doesn't it? You're implying there's no one that would benefit from full 5G speed with finite data but I somehow don't believe this is true.

I think the point is, 5G capped at 40mbps is nowhere near 5G's full potential speed, so they could just offer 4G instead, and it would still be practically the same (without considering what Churna said above which I guess shouldn't entirely be ignored)

        • What's the point? Unlimited data for $20/40.

      • coles mobile/optus 4G can ramp up to 280mbps

  • +6

As a network engineer who has worked on Vodafone, Optus and Telstra networks I can state that they all use quality equipment from several manufacturers. The only thing that affects service reception is your location, they would all have the same reception if you stood in like for like places near their towers. Throttled 5G is the biggest con going, 4G speeds were available on Vodafone years ago that surpass 5G today. And the 4G reception is usually better than 5G

    • I’ve found in regional areas Telstra is always at the top of the tower and Optus/voda is lower, probably depending on the tower, but indoors I notice a difference in signal strength/quality

  • Too many clueless people around Ozbargain. Probably using some shit house bar of soap as a phone.

    Full Vodafone: 98Mbps
    Full Optus: 42Mbps
    Full Telstra: 202Mbps

      Phew I'm using potato phone

      • +1

Nice! I opted for an actual brick, but ensured the materials were carcinogenic for the “full experience” 🥴

    • Is your phone a candy bar by any chance

  • Does this deal have an end date? also fyi for people on felix now you can port out and back same day and you still get the half price 6 months

    • 15 Mar 11:00pm 27 days left

      • Does the SIM have to be activated by that date ?

        • +1

No the 6 month offer is valid to 15 March, but to qualify for cashback you must activate within 30days of purchase

          • @Kelpei: By cashback you mean pay $20 instead of $40 each month ?

            • @finbar: TCB is doing $11 cashback for the deal. Bought 1 and tracked minutes ago.
