Oh dear lord, it’s getting even more ridiculous!

    • -4

Just be patient and wait for prices to come down. These kind of prices aren't sustainable.

      • +6

To be fair how long are you expecting people to wait? It’s been rising since October last year

        • +15

People were saying to wait during the covid CPU and crypto miner GPU shortages. Those lasted 3 and 2 years

          • @Atomic117: I don't remember any Covid CPU shortage? I bought a new Intel 10th gen CPU in early 2021 and paid very little for it.

      • The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.

    • +2

I had no idea prices have skyrocketed since upgrading my PC last September. I paid about $139 for Klevv 32GB Kit 6000mhz.

  • Can anyone tell me what's actually better in the last ten years? Like, nothing about anything is making anything better.

    • +3

Philips. It's getting better all the time.

    • +9

      Internet speeds?

      • +1

Maybe the top speeds are better, but the bottom speeds (12/25/50/100) haven't changed. So only better for some.

        • Prices haven't moved either. Since I signed up for my current internet connection over ten years ago it now effectively (i.e. inflation-adjusted) costs ~30% less.

    • +15

Sounds like someone isn't a billionaire.

    • +12

      A few from tech:
      - displays are better and cheaper than ever
      - integrated graphics from both AMD and Intel have made major strides, pretty much ending the need for low end graphics
      - gaming on Linux has turned from a dream to a reality, though not perfect

      • -2

Don't know if displays are cheaper than ever. I paid about $1500 for a 64" plasma in 2013, which at the time was one the largest and best TVs available (it was an entry level plasma, but still a plasma nonetheless). Today, you're looking at about $2500 for an entry 65" OLED, the modern day equivalent of my old set.

The cost of a quality name brand (not counting Kogan/TCL/etc) 42/55/65" TV has hardly dropped much in the last 10 years.

    • +4

      You will like artificial intelligence.

      Its better than genuine intelligence.

    • +1

Screens. Oh Firerunner said that already

    • -1

Pretty much everything but programming jobs, enough developers making memory and storage efficient applications and games, and RAM and SSD pricing.

Even GPUs model well enough for costs if you account for the 18-24 months they take to start to show their true value.

Anyway this is a rubbish deal post, reflective of current market pricing and offerings, not a discount.

    • DDR5 memory kits were dirt cheap first half of 2025. Couldn't resist and bought a spare kit back then (price was cheaper than the kit I bought in 2024, and a better memory kit). Dirt cheap PS5 deals last year. Macs are not yet affected by the RAM, NAND price hike yet.

After Covid, prices of computer parts fluctuated a lot, so it is better to buy parts when they are cheap, rather than buy them all in one go (unless you have a rich mum or dad or both).

Tech products are actually better in the last 10 years, it's just RAM and NAND prices have gone crazy recently.

      • I got a build for work
        i7 14700k
        128gb DDR5 5600MHz
        5070 Super 12GB
        2 x 1TB SSD

Total was 3600, RAM was $550 of that.
Now the same kits are 2k+ for the RAM alone.

  • lol

  • +7

Crazy how $549 is the new 'bargain' when I picked up the exact same kit for $149 last October. At this rate, by Christmas, I’ll be trading my RAM sticks for a 3-bedroom house in Sydney.

    • 96 gb of DDR5 could be had for under $300 back in like July

    • +5

Yea mate, it sux. If I could go back in time I would but it's not getting any cheaper which is why I posed this. It's currently at least $100 cheaper than any other sticks.

      • +4

        Hello.

    • -1

1 year ago you could get an entire gaming PC for the same price as this deal.

  • I been looking at g.skill Z5 neo 32Gb CL30 6000mhz RAM for like $899, is CL28 that much better?

I know this is cheaper but never heard of this brand and by the time I buy RGB heat sinks it’s not a lot cheaper than the RGB g.skill, is this brand as good as g.skill?

    • It's just as good with better timings minus the RGB so I decided that RGB wasn't that important on the memory in my build.

    • +1

You're almost never going to notice the difference bet ween CL28 and CL30, at most you will probably get 5 extra fps with CL28 for some games and most games I'd guess 1-3 fps extra. Klevv is a good enough brand, I have them myself.

    • +3

There's only 3 2 manufacturers that make the actual RAM chips, Samsung and SK Hynix, Klevv is the in house brand of the latter…

I have this exact kit and no issues.

      • +3

As is typical for Korean conglomerates, Klevv is not directly under SK Hynix, but is owned by the same parent, SK Group.

So I guess it's good for it's survivability as a brand compared to Crucial, as it is it's own entity that wants to survive.

        • Who is the maker of the g.skill ones then?

          • +3

@yacman: G Skill is it's own company unrelated to the manufacturers. It's why there's that little bit of lottery of getting either Samsung or SK Hynix (or Micron?) dies, as they buy from whomever.

        • +3

Lol. You would think that, but one branch of Samsung just sued another branch of Samsung for refusing to sell them the memory they needed.

          • +1

@eggboi: I actually had that old Microsoft org chart meme with each department holding a gun to eachother in my head when I wrote that.

So your point reinforces what I said really, Klevv would fight for its survival, while a brand directly under the manufacturer, like say Crucial, could just get folded overnight a lot more easily.

            • @TheContact: ah yes, i see. i didn't pick that up when scanning your original comment. love the MS meme, classic of massive corporations.

A bit off topic but related - I wonder if there's some tax benefit to these companies who work together, suing each other then settling (repeatedly). They do it all the time - Apple and Samsung for example. By settling and offering each other goods and services in a swap arrangement rather than paying for said goods.

    • No, the performance difference is a fraction of a percent

  • Deals can still be found if you’re patient. Purchased 2x kits from Amazon AU on the 12th for $479 each. They were shipped the next day.

Nice…… sadly I must keep missing them

  • +2

Almost feel like a genius gaslighting the missus into thinking I needed a new PC early last year.

  • Geebus. Feel like I won the lottery upgrading my gaming pc early last year.

  • Anyone wanna get together and start a GPU and RAM factory?

    • China responds.

  • Using pcgrid its been sitting at this price for well over a month. But it is the cheapest 32gig kit atm.

  • god dam it…..I have bought all pc components except for RAM. If it takes me 2-3 months to build the case, should I get this Ram or gamble to see if the prices come back down?

    • hard to respond as someone who likes to buy pc parts and slap them in a case in an hour or so…

  • +2

100% they're trying to push the market away from local desktops and into cloud compute via thin client.

    • +1

You will own nothing and they'll be happy

    • AI buying might be a lie. Maybe it's military buying. Must be prepared for the middle east war.

  • +1

I got 16gb kit at the start of last year for a budget linux box. I was gonna get a 32gb kit but it was like an extra $40 so i didnt do it. What a fool i was.

  • +1

    OzIHadToBuyTodayAndNowYouHaveToReadAboutIt

  • I know it's expensive but certainly if you're an Nvidia user this is barely a drop in the ocean!
(I am increasingly thankful to be an AMD user)

  • This has been the same price for weeks, not a deal.

  • Luckily I was able to nab (2x32GB) 64GB G.Skill Z Neo DDR4 RAM for $599. Not the best price but it's good in the market. It was EOL order so I didn't post on Ozbargain.

    • This is DDR5 not DDR4

      • Well I don't have a DDR5. But still i doubt you can find a DDR4 64GB for less than $1,000

  • +2

So what do people mean when they say there is ram shortage?
Not a single tech supply store I've seen is out of stock, not even close to being out of stock. There is plenty of ram everywhere.

Seems like artificial inflation to me. Just telling lies and and fear mongering to take advantage of gullible people to drive up prices. Kinda like covid.

    • With Covid, there were an army here to defend the narrative. All the down voting and neg to comment for even questioning the narrative. Believing people in power, NGO and government has their best interest in mind. Epstein files, increase cost of living and etc hopefully cue them in to reality. For many, I think they can't accept they were wrong and double down.

I assume everywhere along the supply chain, people are taking in extra profit, to hedge again sudden price drop (or extra profit when possible). Resulting in prolong high price even when situation has change.
