As a DataCamp paid subscriber,
I found the quality of their SQL (heading the data analyst direction) and statistics (heading the data science direction) tutors + materials less than ideal. It is one of those that "if you know the content, then you'll understand; but if you are learning the content, you'd struggle to understand" quality.This is especially the case on the intermediate > advance topics.
Example1, numiqo does a much better job explaining confidence interval (https://youtu.be/ENnlSlvQHO0?si=CclK2Cxc3hXrvDV_) than DataCamp's own 'lesson'. DataCamp completely breaks down in their [Accuracy - Precision - Recall - F1score] materials. Absolute shambles.
Example2, visually explained does a better job explaining decorators (https://youtu.be/3tyaO-OE0K0?si=Nk5nVJyHy4NIGO_o, and https://youtu.be/je2hZUyq7IA?si=ahwA_Z8uvT2ka3T3) in the middle of DataCamp's very confusing Python Loops and functions unit <~ many learners will just be starring blank at the material asking 'So what on earth is going on here?'Perhaps the most frustrating part is, where you want to attempt their 'projects' to start building skills + confidence leading to a portfolio. The course materials don't really cover what's needing in the projects.
Or, put it the other way round, the projects often asks for skills + understanding that was not covered in the course materials.
When you click on their [solution] tab, quite often the codes are not something a learner would understand from doing their course materials.This also leads to DataCamp's own offering of AI-asstiant:
DataCamp is attempting their own version of 'm$365 co-pilot' additional subscription $ push with their DataLab. You get 15 free prompts, then you have to fork out second subscription for that. Priced at the same as the DataCamp subscription you just paid for. :$Their GPT-base AI assistant is sometimes less than helpful when you're stuck at their exercises. It loops itself in errors especially when your run into some table or variable referencing mistakes
For example and a word of advice: (assuming the learner enrolled in the data science track,) Do yourself a favor and put yourself in a good mood before attempt their SQL exercises involving the use of Common Table Expression (CTE), especially in the latter part where CASE WHEN will be needed.
Same with their later Python exercises. You're welcome : )DataCamp recently fully AI'd their intro+intermediate to SQL courses.

Fortunately , it is still possible to switch back to tutor-based version after fiddling on the course page.Overall, try when it's free; :D
