Eero Pro 7 Wired Backhaul with Network Switch

I use pfSense as my main router, and it connects to a 2.5GbE switch that distributes Ethernet throughout the house.

I’m planning to install two Eero units in bridge/AP mode. Can I connect both Eeros directly to the same switch using separate Ethernet runs, or do they need to be daisy-chained (one Eero connected to the other) for wired backhaul to work properly?

I’d prefer not to place an Eero in front of the switch, as I don’t want a reboot of one unit to impact the rest of my wired network. Just want to confirm the correct and supported topology for wired backhaul.

  • Can I connect both Eeros directly to the same switch using separate Ethernet runs

    Yes.

    • Thanks for the reply. I have found mixed responses to this on different forums. Have you been able to make this config work?

      • I am wrong. I've just Googled and found warnings against connecting more than one eero 7 pro to the same switch, because then they apparently create more than one network. Eero's own web site seems devoid of any useful information either way.

        • Isn't that how a mesh network works? It only really matters if it has 802.11rkv support, which I assume it will.

  • The answer is yes. I've rolled an installation with router -> switch -> 5 Eero units (mixed) all showing wired connection on the app and working flawlessly.

It good idea to also consider Unifi stuff. You can get the U7 Pros pretty cheap

    • Thank you …. yeah i have heard a lot about UniFi, but needed to replace my existing Orbi RBK753 as they were giving me trouble so EERO 7 seemed like a quick fix

Getting the delivery today so will get to test out the ethernet backhaul.

      • And confirmed. Connected the two Pro 7 to the switch and they worked absolutely fine.

        • Yes routing happens on a different networking layer.

Double NAT can be an issue having two routers on the same network. However, bridge mode effectively makes them switches attached to your pfsense router via your switch.

  • eeros are shit.
i had a pro 7 and went back to a rooted gen3 telstra modem
