Tell the truth you've already seen it

      • +1

        I'm still watching Babylon 4

        • +2

I mean from the sounds of it this is only Babylon 1 through 4, 5 is missing.

          • +1

            @dekekun: Ask the Minbari

            • +2

@jv: I opened the minibar and a little light went off and now I have a charge on my room's bill.

              Thanks JV!

          • @dekekun: We dont talk about Season 5 anyway

    • +6

shit i am finally watch the episodes I wasn't able to tape back in the day. yay!!

      • I tried to tape them, what a nightmare

    • +1

Don't let this district you from the fact that jv has a new display pic.

      • +3

        😲

Episode 1 isn't missing as such, since the pilot was a film called The Gathering. Not sure why they changed the episode numbering. But if you want to watch it, someone's uploaded it to YouTube.

    • +1

I'm just seeing a bunch of react videos :/

      • +2

Sorry, The Gathering was definitely on YouTube earlier in the month when I watched it. Should have checked before posting.

    • so you should watch the movie pilot first off YT before EP1?

    • I used to have it on VHS.

    4 Seasons

That's a long time to babble on.

  • +1

A 30yo tv show coming onto a paid streaming service is now considered a bargain? This belongs in the forums….

    • +5

Previously it wasn't available for streaming in Australia. So I guess its a bargain? Either way its a nice announcement.

      • +1

Either way its a nice announcement.

        Yes

        I guess its a bargain

        No

      • Agree, I appreciate the post

    • +12

It's a classic, well-regarded sci-fi series that was previously quite expensive to access legally. Seems worth posting to me.

      • +3

Hasn't been trashed (yet) by a remake like pretty much all other sci-fi shows.

        • hollywood is out of ideas, just wait

    • Also they leave out final season as you have to buy it and movies if you love it (and if you love good sci fi you will almost certainly love B5)

      Call me a cynic

  • +7

Great show. Showing its age a bit in terms of production values (1990s free to air TV is not like today's big budget streaming), but still a great story.

  • +2

Thanks all for making me feel young again

  • +7

awesome, got the wife watching the Expanse recently, this will be next ;)

    • +1

The Expanse's story never quite finished, right? Can't remember now despite watching it 3 times…

      • +1

I think there were a couple books after the point where they stopped, yes.

Adapting those isn't a simple task for a few reasons though…

        • +2

Also really sucks that the actor that played Alex Kamal did some allegedly dodgy stuff and they had to write that character out of the series.

          • @nedski: What did he allegedly do?

          • -1

            @nedski: allegedly

            • +3

              @cobknob: Yes I said that.

              • -2

                @nedski: Yes…. allegedly

              • -1

@nedski: I'm NOT up/down -playing that situation and I don't really care for reddit either.

Funny thing about consent is that you rarely see males use it against the opposite sex, but females definitely abuse their position. If the guys famous or rich and the chic is not getting their way with him/money they fu#$ him up!

Seriously waiting for the day where neuro-link meets Minority Report. More chics in lockup and fined for being a bit#$

          • @nedski: yeah basically one of those dumb "consent and then change of mind after the fact" type events and ruined the whole last season without him there.

            • +1

@lonewolf: Not sure it was a single instance. Reporting alluded to the Expanse's Cas Anvar Accused by Multiple Women of Sexual Assault and Harassment.

              • @nedski: It was at the height of the witch hunt, it was always "multiple" and then down the line in courts when the truth comes out, the media never reports what happened…. or didnt happen.

  • +13

IMO one of the best syfi series ever created.

    • 'Yes'.

    • It's better than Star Trek and Star Wars

    • As much as I like ST: TNG and think it probably hasn't been equalled in many aspects, the story arc of Babylon 5 manages to put it ahead for me. Even if the suspension of disbelief and acting isn't quite up to the standard of ST:TNG.

  • +1

the season 5 page is here:
    https://www.primevideo.com/detail/Babylon-5/0IXSMZLH8RLBZQ4P…

but as stated there are no episodes.

Looks like S5 is a different studio "discovery plus Sci-Fi" vs the other 4 seasons which are Warner Bros, so that might be the reason there are no eps?

    • +1

Only the first four seasons are worth watching anyways.

      • +1

Season 5 includes "Sleeping in Light"

  • +3

They had most of it on Youtube last week, but I guess it was a negotiating tactic as they've set all of it to private since.

  • +2

    And so it begins

  • +5

I still can hear the words in my head "And the name of that place, was Babylon 5"

  • +1

Meanwhile the entire series of Farscape is on YouTube. Officially, best I can tell but no Peacekeeper Wars.

    • +1

Thank you Rygel the 16th. I'm off to supposedly fu#$ Zan but I think Chiana will get to me first πŸ˜‚

  • +2

This really was a fantastic series… won a heap of awards at the time as well. It was well ahead of its time and included entire races being subjugated, misunderstandings leading to conflict etc… and the ugly side of war that was rarely shown in other mainstream sci-fi. I am sure that some of the SPFX will look dated now.. but it is well worth a watch for the storytelling.

    • +2

Also the creator wrote the whole show from the start, the first episodes foreshadow stuff that happens at the end. No one ever does this anymore unless its based on a book.

It has an epic coherent arc and character development like nothing else still.

      • those were the times when merit mattered in hollywood

    • +1

It was the first show to risk telling a continuing story from episode to episode, rather than having each episode be self-contained. Paved the way for other series to do the same.

  • Great series :)
In episode 2, season 1, 40 seconds in, that is how my hair is when I wake up :P

  • +1

Thanks op, could never catch Babylon on TV.

Might stream it to see if I like the show. πŸ‘

  • +1

Amazing series!!!!! Worth the watch or rewatch, even now

  • +2

    Great show, Space Opera.

If you like sci fi check it out

  • +7

This the show where the Amiga were put to great use?

    • +5

Yeah with the Video Toaster hardware and Lightwave software. I don't think it was for the whole run, though, just the first couple of seasons?

      • +3

Thought so. Might watch just to see the Toaster and Lightwave in action. The Amiga was king of the demo scene back in the day.

    • +1

Only in the first season. They used Pentium PCs and DEC Alpha workstations for seasons 2 and 3.

  • +3

β€œWhat do you want, you moon-faced assassin of joy?” Classic Londo!

  • +1

Great show, I remember watching it back when it first came out and some of my fellow Trekkies refused to watch it because of the Lightwave 3D Special Effects but after a few years i managed to get them to watch it and they got hooked.

  • Yes!

  • What streaming service has season 5?

  • Great series. Also the series the stole the premise of DS9 for.

    • +1

The creator met with Paramount and pitched the show to them. Had trouble getting off the ground quickly. Then "coincidentally" Paramount decides it can do a Star Trek series set on a space station and launches it before Babylon 5.

  • "No boom today. Boom tomorrow."

  • Some of the show is comedic πŸ‘

Emperor Cartagia is a fav of mine - hmm who is that πŸ€” President of the US..

  • Four seasons in one day

  • +1

Excellent show. There are some eerily relevant parallels to the world and events we are living in right now.

  • +1

Season 5 being missing is not a big deal. The show was originally meant to go for 5 seasons, but at the end of season 3 they scrapped the 5th season (thinking they wouldn't get a 5th), so the writers put the rest of the story into season 4, which was a hit! It did get a 5th season that no longer existed. They slapped together some storyline, but the real tale that was to be told happened from Season 1 to Season 4 of the series proper. Don't fret about not watching Season 5. The only catch is that the last episode, that could be used to close out Season 4 or Season 5 and was meant to be aired after the end of season 4 (if season 5 didn't happen) is not available unless you can find it. It is called 'Sleeping in Light'.

  • 1st episode the gathering can be found on eBay for $14

  • -5

This show is amazing it's just a little liberal and retarded at times. The outlines were written by Harlan Ellison.

  • Do I need to watch Babylon 1 through 4 to know what's going on?

  • Wow it is just as good as I remember. The plot is so good

  • Seems to have disappeared off Amazon today with no warning 😑

    • Yup it's gone :(

    • And just like that its gone πŸ˜ͺ
