These are official Australian Xiaomi models, not the grey imports that get banned

    • +1

curious, why are telco banning them?

      • +1

In Australia - most of mobiles are …. iphones, samsung and motorola - its all to do with money, honey… :)

        • +3

          🙄 Google,

        • -4

          Wtf?

Jokes like that rely on outdated stereotypes about women and money. Not cool.

      • +12

Afaik the argument is because they are unsure if they can connect/ connect to emergency service since the 3g shut off. In reality it's because the telcos and government are incompetent +/- allows prices to be pushed up.

        I may be wrong though

        • but it never happen before

        • you are not wrong it is intentional from both telco and government to protect their vested interests. In reality almost all of the modern phones can connect to emergency services without 3G.

        • How does the ban work, does the device get bricked or they simply can't connect to the network? Im traveling back to Australia soon have not been back in nearly 8 years with a chinese phone. (hauwei)

          • @shadowangel: For my devices they just can't connect to mobile networks (other than Vodafone) so it seems to be an individual network block. Still connect to WiFi.

          • @shadowangel: No issues at all if you're roaming or using a travel SIM, but may have issues if you buy a local SIM.
            They block based on IMEI.
Optus and Vodafone networks have a whitelist of devices. If your IMEI is not on the list, they will move to block service.
Telstra have a blacklist, so are more likely to allow access to their network.

            • @ESEMCE:

Weirdly Optus block my daughters redmi note 9 pro but voda do not.

              • @Duff5000: No surprise there as each of them have their own black/white list. My RM Note 12 blocked by Telstra&Voda but OK on Optus.

          • @shadowangel: There are sites from Telstra and Optus that will tell if your phone is on the blacklist or not. Just Google for "Australia 3g shutdown imei check"

    • +7

You should probably check your facts before giving such warnings

    • +4

Mi and mobileciti - are associated and guarantee its Aust. compatible to all telco networks
I have spoken with Mi. customer service in Sydney.

This comment absolutely applies to Imports, but Australian Stock must meet Australian requirements, so worst case recourse would be refund from the Australian Retailer.
But this shouldn't be an issue due to the handset being Australian stock.

    • which is better Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G or the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus 5G? the cheapest one has a sd card slot wow hard to choose.

@illumination: again not giving 2 sh$ts if it does or not is that clear of a point for you?

              • +1

@kungfuman: What do you mean "again?" That wasn't clear at all lol

You just said it was a question that requires an answer. You didn't say anything about "not giving a toss"

                It's clear now though

                • -2

                  @illumination: again definition

                  adverb
                  Once more; anew.
                  "Try again."
To a previous place, position, or state.
"left home but went back again."
                  Furthermore; moreover.
"Again, we need to collect more data."

                  • +1

@kungfuman: "Again" implies you already implied/conveyed the sentiment of not giving a toss.

("again" coming out for the first time, implying it was already communicated)

Comment 3 was the first time you implied you didn't "give 2 sh$ts"

Asking you "what do you mean "again"?" doesn't seem out of place here.

would any of these be better than s23 ultra?

    • +4

They will be downgrades from the S23 ultra's in terms of performance, since the S23 ultra has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (a flagship chip).

All of the Redmi's SOCs are mid-range.

you will also lose the digitizer inputs (no S-pen alternative) and there is no telephoto lens at all (only digital zoom).

    • why would you consider moving of s23 ultra to any of these?
      it's a step down.
and to me, s23 ultra still does the job well.

      • +5

the price looked good and i thought being 3 years old, it was time for an upgrade haha. Will keep looking i guess

      • +3

        literally why he asked

    • These phones have DDR4 ram too.
Probably wont be a huge difference but the ram alone will be a downgrade.

Whats the bloatware like on Xiaomi's these days?

    • My 15t is no worse than Samsung or my last Oppo Xiaomi 15t has it's own store, Xiaomi home, and a remote app because of the ir on there but not much else I have noticed . This is not the Redmi though

      • How do you like your 15T? Hows the camera?

        • I am not a big camera person, if it works it works so I am not the best to ask, I notice it's same as wife's s25 at normal shots. Not as good as long distance better at night if I remember correctly.

I would check the reviews for a more objective review though

      • oh dear as bad as Samsung?

    • Bloat ware is basically the same as everyone else. The main annoyance is that they install ads and bundle them with their system apps like the music player/video player/file explorer/cleaner. You have to disable all these things/services and use the Google apps/VLC etc. from the play store. However, when their $500 phone is the same as a Samsung $1500 phone, you can forgive this minor inconvenience.

  • +2

The Pro+ has curved edges. Does this = nightmare when it comes to screen protectors? s23 ultra curved edges were a pain, had to buy a whole ass UV kit

  • +1

I currently have a pixel 7 and I'd like something that is a bit faster/more responsive, and something with battery life. Any thoughts on how this would compare? I guess I am always willing to spend more than this so it's also a question of how much more than this I'd have to spend to get a better phone.

    • +3

I went from a Pixel 7 pro to a Xiaomi 15t pro (got one for $800ish on Amazon uk), decent upgrade in most areas, most noticeably battery life and camera (better quality telephoto zoom). I'd still consider a Pixel 9 or 10 on a sweet deal, they're still fantastic phones. I spend extra for telephoto as I like the zoom for sports.

      • +1

        thank you

      • cheers

  • +3

Just ordered the Redmi 15 Pro, from MobileCiti, Xiaomi Customer service confirmed they are a authorised reseller and warranty in AU would be honored.

      • +3

They must've really hurt you, somehow…

  • No esim?

    • +1

Yes this is a big out if so

      • +4

        Cheap Esim adapters exist

        • The catch is when trying to use telcos that ONLY allow you to install an eSIM via their own app (e.g. Felix), you'll have to use physical SIM

I recall there was a travel eSIM provider that does this too.

    • Base model doesn't but the pro versions do have e-sim support. I need e-sim + NFC and it says the pro versions have nfc but some dude in the reviews saying his pro doesn't have nfc support.

    • Pro and Pro+ allow either 2 physical or 1 physical + 1 esim, base model doesn't

  • Fyi no wireless charging on any of these models.

    • Meh. Slow charge isn't interesting IMO.

    • +4

Once you discover how fast and long the battery life is it's a thing of the past

  • +1

It's a shame Xiaomi does not import the good models into the Australian market.

We never get sth like Redmi K90, or Xiaomi 17, 17PM.

Phones above are low-end and overpriced models

    • +1

The phones above are mid range models. The K90 is a more expensive model and Xiaomi 17 is a flagship model. If they're overpriced, feel free to share better options available locally.

      • -1

they mark up 60-70% compare to their chinese prices. phones are not cars, i dont care about local warranty.

        • +3

          then import one

    • I expect Turbo 4 Pro

  • +1

    This or nothing 3a?

  • +4

Lol these phone names these days. Pro, pro+, pro max, pro max ultra, pro max ultra ++. Like seriously wth is going on in the marketing department?

    • +1

Chinese companies have never been the best at marketing and this extends to differentiating between all their models/variants.

Hiring an Anglo or a bilingual for marketing purposes would likely drive up the price.

The good thing is that they pass through most of the savings.

If you look at the BYD Atto 1, their naming scheme in the UK is awful.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BYD_Seagull#Australia

Australia's naming scheme was simplified to just Essential and Premium, but in Europe they have 3 trim levels: Active, Boost and Comfort.
Try guessing which of the latter 3 are the low, mid and top range specs without cheating.

It seems to be a cultural thing where they like to "flood the zone" with lots of slightly different variants.
Doesn't matter to enthusiasts, but it can seem overwhelming to casuals.

      • It's not just the Chinese. iPhone does that too.

  • Bit disappointing the pro+ is only 8/256. My wife's 13 pro+ is 12/512.

    • +3

Most likely another victim of the DRAM shortage.

    • +1

      Hi Iggemo

      Thanks for the feedback 😊
Just to clarify, there is also a 12GB / 512GB version of the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G available.

      You can find it here

      • -1

Do any models in the post have eSIM?

        • +1

          Hi buddy,
From your post, both the Note 15 Pro and Note 15 Pro Plus come with Nano SIM + eSIM ;)

          • @AHUANG: But do these phones support 2 x eSIMs at the same time with no presence of a physical SIM.
I ask because a recent purchase of a late model OPPO Reno13 5G does not.

            • @sgsg: I think only iPhones, Samsungs and Pixels (and only from a certain generation onwards) support dual eSIM

      • Can I ask long it takes to ship to Melbourne?

        • For in-stock items ordered before 4pm, dispatch is on the same day. For Melbourne metro areas, delivery takes 1–3 business days.

          Thanks!

        • Ordered Thursday morning, received Friday lunchtime :) Metro Melbourne

      • Hi, do these phones support wireless Android Auto?

      • HI, is the code still valid? Having trouble accepting

  • Great phone, I purchased directly through Xiaomi, received the mi pad 2 for free :)

I got the pro model, swapped from the Samsung s21 Ultra, this new phone is amazing for it's price!

Also note, you can add virtual ram so while it has 8gb you can add virtual 8gb to increase it!

The Pro model also allows micro SD card :)

    • Pro 5g doesn't allow micro SD card expansion unfortunately

      • Pretty sure it does, I'll try it

        • I read an article on Internet that said the 5g version doesn't have the card

          • @JURBA: Okay just tried, yes can't do additional storage, Ah well!

  • Am I right in that the Redmi range don't facilitate Digital Keys for cars etc? They aren't on the BYD compatibility list (but the Xiaomi 1x and 1x Ultra are). Perhaps its that the Redmi range doesn't have UWB?

  • I am thinking of buying one, are we 100% sure these won't get ban (as suggested by the first comment)?

    • +1

Yes, these are Australian certified phones, not grey imports.

    • +4

Do you mean the 1st comment that currently has 22 negs?

      • +2

28 negs. 5 clueless people upvoted it 😂

  • Anyone else having trouble getting code accepted?

    • +1

Yes I am having the same problem. Code is not accepted

      • +1

Give them a call and ask if codes are still valid or they have expired
