I think the best reasons for waiting is Magsafe and UWB chip.
UWB still not confirmed I think, but to me it just makes no sense not to have it because it's probably already part of the main chips. they really gutted the 16e, but apple always does this, they deliberately cripple earlier models, to upsell the newer models (and even grab some extra customers who are willing to upgrade from last year).
Yeah, not the biggest fan of apple and their marketing ploys. But still gotta give credit for how well they do some things.
Maybe the deal is over already, but I would check Costco first because I got one for $700 yesterday (Moorabin)

Purchased at Ringwood Costco store today. Staff said they have 40+ in stock.
I nearly bought it. But the possibility of 17e coming in 3 weeks with new processor, better modem, better camera, brighter screen, dynamic Island, etc. for probably $200 more held me back.
