It's getting pretty good but I wouldn't rely on it as my daily driver for work.
It's definitely going to be awesome in the future. I wonder how Apple is going to react. They won't want to cannibalise their hardware sales but it's going to be a gaping hole if they don't.

Yes, but having one OS is very different from being able to dock your tablet and use it as a desktop.
Apple is very interested in selling you an iPhone, iPad, and Mac, not just an iPhone and a dock.
Apple hasn't even made a touchscreen Mac because they're worried it will cannibalise some iPad sales, and those sales would be small by comparison to an iPhone with desktop functionality.

Samsung's had DeX mode for like, 5 years before it became a standard Android feature.
I use it on my S10. It does everything I want it to do - multitask with lots of apps open at once on a monitor. Whats missing?

I checked out Dex about 2-3 years ago on a tab S7. Had consistency issues and limited app integration. I definitely couldnt daily it, still had much growing to do.

Whoever negged you is a dumb dumb. You're correct in that this is the Xiaoxin Pad.
It's best to try and find original firmware CN versions. I believe they can be converted to Global the same way the Pad Pro can.

I should mention that the local version does have the Matte paper-like display. I personally hate this because it's got less colours/brightness.

Unfortunately virgin Xiaoxin 11's have become very scarce on AliExpress now. It seems 95% of the listings are seller-flashed with the 'global' firmware :(
And many of the listings that mention 'CN Version' on the thumbnail are hacked up with the 'global' firmware.Curious, what do U think of the Xiaoxin 12.1 ??

I keep forgetting the Xiaoxin Tablet 12.1 exists. It's basically a refresher of the original Xiaoxin Pad. With the lack of legitimate CN ROMs that's probably the next best.

I'm considering getting myself a device for reading comics etc but I don't want to spend a fortune on an Apple device, would the Lenovo be adequate?

Iām in the same situation ā Iām only going to use it for reading manga.
After spending a full day researching on GPT and Google, and checking out e-readers at JB Hi-Fi, I decided on the Xiaoxin Pad 12.7 (2025 version). I found it for $230 AUD from Clearās recent post.
My other options were the Kobo Sage, the Boox Go 7, and some other 7-inch Kobo models. But once I saw how small a 7-inch screen actually is, it immediately felt too small for manga.
The Kobo Sage has its own issues. Itās already four years old, the battery life isnāt great, and itās not cheap. None of them are cheap, honestly. Anything larger than 8 inches jumps to around $800 or more ā at that point, I might as well buy an OLED iPad Pro.
I understand that e-ink, especially monochrome e-ink, looks much more like real paper compared to LCD. But the price difference is just too big. Iām not that hardcore of a reader yet, so it doesnāt feel justified. And if I were to spend that much money, Iād want the latest device that feels āperfectā ā but all of them seem to have their own quirks.

Maybe the Lenovo Legion Tab Y700? 8.8 inch screen and maybe a little overkill spec-wise, but the 165hz screen feels buttery smooth to use. Can be had from Aliexpress for roughly AUD$340-$370 delivered if you get it during a sale.

Xiaoxin Pad 12.7 (2025 version)
I can vouch for the Xiaoxin being an excellent comic reading device, especially if you can set the comic to long strip vertical or horizontal. Everything is slightly larger than the physical comics. Much easier on the eyes.

Yes, the Lenovo will be more than adequate for reading, but if you're only using it for reading then an e-Ink device like a Kindle would be better.
If you still want full Android functionality, take a look at TCL's NXTPAPER devices.
Both of these alternatives will be kinder on the eyes.

For a locally available tablet with warranty it's certainly one of the best choices for a "budget" tablet if you get the 8GB RAM variant - I wouldn't touch the 4GB variant. My Redmi Pad 2 with the Helio G100 (G99) and 8GB RAM goes well for a budget tab. The Lenovo Tab 10.1" with the Helio G85 or Lenovo Tab M11 with a Helio G88 are complete rubbish in comparison.
Getting the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro from AliExpress is always going to be better deal, but you do miss out on local warranty. If the Idea Tab Pro (Xiaoxin Pad Pro) was on sale and you really wanted to buy local I'd recommend that for extra.

CN Version gives you a standard display and not the paper-like Matte display, obviously no local warranty, a few little translation issues with the CN ROM (can switch to global as described in latest Xiaoxin Pad Pro deal) and there's no pen included in the global.

I picked up one of these last week. Was pleasantly surprised that it was the matte screen version, which suits my use case as a HASS wall mounted dashboard.
Make sure you pick the 8GB RAM version, as 4GB is same price - I assume 8GB is a price error.- 1

I haven't yet, but planning to 3D print a wall mount and get a slim right angle USB-C cable.
Or maybe just get 3M adhesive and stick it to kitchen tiles.
This tablet has a nice battery setting to keep it within 40-60% range so the battery won't swell if you keep it constantly plugged in.- 1

Bought one of these for my daughter around Christmas.
The reason to get this is the pen, if you want a tablet with pen you cannot beat the price on this, next closest would be a Galaxy Tab which is twice the price.
For general duties no issues, it has a matte screen which is great for reading tasks, if you wanted something for note taking or editing docs with a a pen it's a no brainer.

Replacing an iPad with a budget tablet is never a good idea. Xiaoxin Pad Pro or Pad Pro GT from AliExpress are the best options. You'll have to wait until next month for the major sale.
