  • How does this compare to a similar garmin?

I reckon the biggest differences you’d notice would be the screen and the software. Garmin has made big strides with screens in recent iterations and their phone app is better.

Garmin also have piss poor cyber security, got hacked, paid a ransom, were not transparent about it.

If you need a good value GPS watch with long battery life and don’t want to give money to Garmin, consider this. There’s a thorough review here from when it came out years ago. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/11/suunto9-depth-review.htm…

The design of this watch is still beautiful, light and minimalist but the watch itself is old old old. For ~$350 you can get a Coros Pace 3 or spend an extra $100 and get the Pace 4 or Suunto Run which are current gen and will deliver a far better experience with *actually fast processors in a light sports body.

Used to have this watch back in the day and absolutely loved it and no doubt some people are still rocking it with fantastic results, but this is like buying an Intel Mac over Apple Silicon.

    • never heard of coros, is it some mushroom brand rebadge the Chinese smart watch…
since its watches look similar to the no-name ones on the aliexp…

No it's very good, it's the serious runner brand imo (Garmin user).

I think about getting a coros every time my heart rate sensor drops out on the Garmin (regularly) but I try to tell myself it's a case of the grass greener (though I'm probably wrong).

Love my coros Pace 2. Lighter on features than Garmin but none I really missed. Great battery life at a cheap price. They upgraded the firmware for years after release. After 3 years of permanent use my pace 2 battery is getting flakey. Trying to find a Pace 4 at a decent price. $250 usd in USA but $450 aud in Aus seems off to me. Hoping it comes down before I am forced into a decision.

Thanks OP, tried them during Suunto factory outlet sale
Slow UI response, hope Suunto finally optimized their under-spec'd chip
    This was Suunto's Nokia moment

Suunto really fumbled from their Suunto 9 transition onto this platform and handed the multi-sport watch market lead to Garmin
