      • Technically you don’t have to give them notice. If you port to another provider you can just notify them you’ve moved over and they can’t charge you.

        • +31

Except technically they do charge you.

@SnakeCasablanca: Looks like some people have success by name dropping ACCC: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/17174648/redir

            • +10

@FFx0: Thats good news. But people should be aware and balance that hassle with the cheapness of the plan.

A large number of people when faced with that level of conflict will just eat the loss. And I imagine Superloop relies on that and that is shady AF.

          • +7

@SnakeCasablanca: I just churned away and last week and did not have to pay the 30 day notice period. Got refunded pro-rata of my remaining days.

Just cited that they were no longer providing me a service.

          • +2

@SnakeCasablanca: Not if you tell them its against ACCC rules. I did this last week and only got charged pro rata.

          • @SnakeCasablanca: Just block them.

          • +1

@SnakeCasablanca: and all you do is say 4 little letters, ACCC in an email and they promptly refund you.

everytime they charge me im refunded in the next email reply. legally they know they cant charge you and the ACCC investigation fee is more expensive

          • +12

            @jv:

Of course they can. They tell that you before you accept their offer.

Just because a company has something in their T&C’s doesn’t mean it’s legal and doesn’t mean it’s enforceable.

The ACCC is very clear that you can’t be charged for a service that isn’t being provided. The RSP isn’t being charged by NBN Co and isn’t providing a service to you so they can’t then charge you.

Like 99.9% of the time - you’re completely wrong.

          • @jv: If you're already on the new provider they will refund you

          • +1

@jv: They can say what the like JV in their T&C's but it means Jack Sh*t if it contravenes federal laws/ rules.

but it means Jack Sh*t if it contravenes federal laws/ rules.

Not really… That is your contract with them.

As long as they don't contravene any other legal rights you have, they can do what they like including not to transfer the warranty to another party if you sell the item…

              • +2

@jv: Wrong. The contract clause is illegal and unenforceable.

I cancelled, informed them of my rights politely, and then blocked them when they tried to scam me. I suggest others do the same.

Would you be happy to pay a plumber $100 upfront to change a tap washer, then he doesn't turn up but keeps the money cos in the small print of his "contract" it says he can do this or doesn't have to turn up or not do the work if he so chooses?

No one is saying they need to refund the remainder of the month (like some RSP’s do). If you churn away lets say 2 days before the end of the paid up to month, they have no legal right to charge you further for a service they’re not supplying.

This is not a new thing. It's been happening forever with telecoms.

                          • @jv: There is no obligation. You can not charge for a service you’re not supplying.

                            https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-servic…

                            Subscriptions and memberships

For services purchased through a subscription or membership, the business should not continue to charge the consumer, or deduct payments, for the period that the consumer can’t access the service.

If your service has been churned to another RSP, Superloop is not being charged or providing a service through NBN, so they can not charge you for a service they’re not providing.

Once again you’re just 100% wrong, not my fault you can’t understand something that’s clearly written in the ACL. Just because something has been happening for ages doesn’t mean it was ever enforceable or legal.

You’re not under a ‘contract’ longer than the month that you’ve signed up and paid for.
If I sign up for them and pay for a single month, they have absolutely no right to charge for another month because I moved to another RSP and they’re no longer providing a service for that next month.

That’s the entire point that you’ve deliberately missed after being told multiple times already.

do not pay and call the customer service saying you have left their dodgy business last month and cancel the bullsh1t bill.
they may still come after u again for the unpaid bill. just tell them (profanity) off u have spoken with the customer service on this. threaten with TIO complaint if needed. they will chicken out

      • +6

    • +5

  • +2

Hopped on chat; no dice for any 'loyalty discounts' - I've called up a few months ago and got a whole 5 bucks off (I'm on gigabit) so 104; but 79 is ridonk. Pretty sad they don't wanna play ball for existing customers (been with em for years); and yes the 30 day thing is making my desire to move away harder, ha.

    • +2

I've heard some people have had them refund the 30 notice via chat, but of course YMMV

    • +7

That's the entire model of every industry now. Low prices are only to entice new customers, not keep customers.

You have to remember that most consumers do not change every 6 months, so the loyalty tax unfortunately does work for companies.

On the bright side, if you do change every 6 months then there are some savings to be had.

    • +1

I only got a small discount but only after calling a few days before my 30 day notice period to cancel - to get $85 a month 500/50 locked in for 12 months but I have 2 new refferals so hopefully it drops to a more reasonable amount.

    • +2

I had the same thing - I decided to finally bite the bullet and change to Carbon Comms. With SL, I was on 250/100 for $100pm, and CC has 500/200 for $105, whereas SL was $125. I called SL and told them I was cancelling, they tried to trash talk CC to get me to stay, told them I wanted to leave, and they said they might be able to do a better offer for me. I said I'd listen, and a few minutes later they came back saying they could knock their 500/200 plan down to $120 for 6 months. I told them I was looking at their website and new customers could get the 500/200 for $110 for 6 months, so the guy came back with a better offer of… $120 for 12 months. I asked to put the transfer through, and have another couple of weeks before I can sign up for CC - hopefully they'll be great because that's some pretty great speeds for me!

      • Damn. Why's it so expensive for you in general? Isn't gigabit 109 currently normal price?

Maybe depends on what nbn tech I guess

        • +1

nbn FTTP or HFC 1000/100 is $109/m ongoing.

nbn FTTP 500/200 and 1000/400 cost more because of the faster upload speed and includes a Static IP address.

        • What upload speed do you have? I'm more after upload speed than download speed. I think when I called SL they said they could do 1000/50 for roughly the same price I had my current plan (maybe $100-$105ish?), but once I wanted to go to higher upload speeds, it started going up more. Carbon Comms has ended up being the cheapest for 200 upload

          • +1

@Opaquer: Ohhhhhh. Yes sorry I didn't notice the upload speed difference. Makes more sense! I'm 1000/50 yeah.

          • @Opaquer: I also recently switched from Superloop to Carbon Comms.

I’m not sure if Superloop is deliberately stalling, but they charged me a $99 upfront fee. I’ve called them three times now, each time they’ve promised to arrange a cancellation credit. During the most recent call, they sent another email saying it would be processed within 5–7 business days. That gives them until the 26th or 27th of February to follow through. If not, I guess my next step will be reaching out to the TIO.

As for Carbon Comms, they attempted to charge a $6 “transfer fee,” which was a first for me, I’ve never come across anything like that before.

So definitely keep an eye on your first bill.

            • +1

@Timetraveler: Wow, that's good to know! Thanks for the info, I've also not heard of a transfer fee. I'll keep an eye out once I've switched over and have my first bill to see how it is. Thanks for that!

      • +1

They didn't read it to you? about how superloop has its own infrastructure or if you have their app downloaded you can check speed and report issues

          /s

After i said no- they gave me $10 off p/m for 12 months and i had to listen to the spill about them using their own infrastructure. i think the discount gods have received their sacrifice for now but will keep an eye out on future into specials from other providers.

  • I signed up a month ago, dont think Ill be able to get this deal.

The way these ISPs work on churning customers is crazy, there’s no point in being loyal at all!!! I’m on SuperLoop gigabit after getting them to match a competitor and threading to leave. FFS!

    • One way to push everyone to the next speed and pay the new price. Aussie average speed was 50 last year.

  • Also available for us Opticomm plebs.

Unfortunately it's only been 6 months since I left superloop. Any other options?

  • What is the NRMA offer link?

      • Sorry, I mean for the actual Superloop offer. Because if you freshly signup - the NRMA Superloop "offer" isn't on the website and you dont really get an email about it.

    • +1

you should have received an email from myNRMA - only if you are an existing member.

then this needs to be changed to targeted i think because even existing NRMA people haven't necessarily got one

        • I just signed up for NRMA but didn't get a link for superloop. Am i missing something

  • Dodo has the same 750 speed plan for $79.99.. ( $959.88)
This offer with SLoop is $968.04 - even with myNRMA discount.

  • Why keep us churning?

    • They make a loss on the promotional price but hope to keep you beyond the 6-month period.
