    • There are definitely bad experiences out there but most of the time box damaged from Sony is basically indistinguishable from brand new from any other store and has full warranty.

        • No, box damaged = new unused, undamaged items with full warranty as noted in the description.

Factory seconds/returns are sold as seconds.

          From ebay listings:

Box damaged = "AS NEW: This item may have damaged carton. It is an unused & undamaged item in its original packaging." e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/286938542464
Seconds = "Refurbished: This item is manufacturer refurbished. It has been checked by Sony technicians and assessed as in working order." e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/287125257879

          • @eecan: And it's only $90 cheaper than the new.
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/945986

          • @eecan: Bought one from the last deal and the had a fault with the screen on day 2. Got it repaired the other day and the Sony tech was saying the damaged boxed items could also potentially be seconds / returns as well…you just never know.

        • No they're not, why make sh#t up for??

  • Likelihood of actually receiving anything ordered from this mob?

    • Judging by the last time, it seemed like only 1 person actually got their item delivered.

    • Closer to zero thats for sure.

    • Ordered a different TV from Sony ebay a month ago. Took a few weeks to get here but arrived eventually. TV is great.

    • Got my TV from the last order in less than 2 weeks. Took a bit for delivery to be arranged, but once it was locked in it was rather quick.

    • I'm still waiting for one ordered 19th Jan. eBay seem to give these turkeys a heck of a lot of leeway, its almost impossible to cancel the order using the normal channels.

    • If you live in WA - apparently zero.

      • Yep, tried, cannot deliver

  • I purchased the 65in for $1199 a few weeks ago with an eBay coupon. Delivery was quick, and process simple enough. No sign of any damage, dents or marks to the box. Everything looked brand new.

    • Hows the yv

    • Same, also the 65inch. Didn't notice any box damage, looked brand new tbh. Ordered 30 Jan, delivered 10 Feb. After ordering a SMS will be sent to the mobile attached to your eBay acc with the tracking number. Don't forget to schedule a delivery date!

      • how to select schedule delivery date? on ebay or via SMS. thanks

        • You'll get a text from the courier with a tracking link. Schedule delivery via that link. Mine was ANC.

  • I purchased one a few weeks ago that was damaged. I'm still waiting for them to organise return shipping.

    • Was that a damaged box unit or just plain damaged?

      • It has a faulty panel - The box and the TV exterior were fine.

    • I got mine repaired and process was pretty straight forward. Took less than a week for the part to be ordered and installed (replaced panel)

  • How is this TV still this price lol I mean yeah better than Bravia 5 but this is a 3 year old model by now

  • 85" $1587.14 with additional FEB5OFF Voucher/coupon.

    • What other coupon did you use? $1690 for me…

      • i think he purchases the "seconds" tv also on the store which is cheaper

  • Purchased one like a year ago, I was a bit hesitant after reading some review but since I paid with PayPal anyway and have protection cover I bit the bullet.

Delivery was pretty prompt by DHL and no damage whatsoever to the unit or the packaging.
Mounted on the wall and it produced beautiful picture from day 1.

I remember reading a review, if you want to be extra safe just take a picture when it got delivered on the day even before opening the box which I did.
Or even record it when you open the box as a proof that if there's damage its not because of you.

  • Got mine for more than a year now. Great tv. The dent on the box was barely noticeable

  • Are these second hand T.V. sets inder the guise of box damaged units?

    • No, seconds are sold as seconds.

  • Thanks OP got the 85 inch. Pretty sure this is ATL for the 85.

    • I got the 85 last week. Very happy with it

  • Is it recommended to get the insurance that Ebay is offering? It adds $252 to the order
One of the item that it covers is…. 'Theft, loss or damage during transit.' - If the courier lose the TV in transit, it becomes my problem?

    • no

    • You need to hand in your OzBargain card.

      • :P

  • I got a box damaged 65" one 6 months ago. The box was perfect and this was the same as all the other comments, I think they say box damaged so they can clear older stock.

  • How thess LED compare to the TCL mini LED one?

    • not quite as good in some areas. ask chatgpt for your use case

      • Mostly for Youtube and movies. I'm not chasing high quality. Slim frames might help with the look. I guess I need to see and feel it in person in the store first to know if I like it.

    • Looks like it trades blows with the TCL C7K in reviews, which is currently on "special" for over $2400 at HN for the 85 inch.

I bought one. Needed a larger TV that didnt break the bank so see how we go. Thanks to OP.

  • I won't take this risk again - ordered a 65" high end Sony "boxed damaged" a few years again and it had a significant screen fault. The return process was a nightmare, where I had to prove that I didn't damage the TV!! NEVER AGAIN.

  • Vaguely related question… I have an older Sony TV (X90F, 75") which I have wall mounted. If I buy one of these newer ones, say the X90L 85" mentioned here, would my existing wall mount fit? Ie I just remove my current TV from it and attach the new one? Or would I likely have to buy and install a new wall mount for the new TV? Just wondering if these things are pretty universal or if they've changed over the years or perhaps different size TVs need different wall mounts etc.

    • Depends on the mount as they have weight limits.

    • If you have the Sony slimline mount I believe the 85" uses the same wall bracket but comes with components to make it work for that model. If using another mounting kit the 85 inch is a bigger VESA standard than the 75 so you would have to make sure that worked… But it probably would.

    • they're generally universal and I'd reckon it would be a straight swap (though sometimes spacers are required which come with the mounting kit) assuming your existing goes up to 85 (most do at that size end) as already said check the weight difference but tv's have been getting lighter

  • Customer service is terrible, worst I've seen for an eBay store. If you get unlucky with the TV you receive, might take a few months to sort it out. Still waiting for my replacement TV from them because they shipped a refurbished one with the wrong stands, and it's been a month and a half

  • Shame there's no 75 inch available. 85 is a little large for my viewing area.

  • Purchased a "refurb" on this deal last year - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/914920 - I swear it was a brand new unit that I received and has been flawless. Only issue was trying to nail a delivery window where I was home but very happy with them.

  • SONY = Savings? Oh No, Yikes!

    • you tried

  • Use codes REWARD50 for $50 off the 55", and BDREFURBTV15 for $100 off the 65".

On the 65" you can stack BDREFURBTV15 and FEB5OFF to bring the total down to $1139.05

    • this is great - just pushed the button finally thanks. not waiting for a c7k deal this will do at that price

  • anyone got any thoughts for this between a 55" c7k? prices seem to be similar on sale and not in a rush to buy but if this is better would rather just purchase now, cheers!

  • Anyone have any experience with how delivery works? Never ordered something so massive form eBay before so wondering if they just leave this in front of your house if no one's home?

    • Just got an answer to the question after I posted. Got a SMS from Sony to choose delivery window.
