Lately they look more like pigeons than chickens. Used to be great ages ago

    • +19

I wish they're pigeons! Pigeons are premium meat in Asian restaurants

      • +3

        So is frog 🐸

          • +14

            @CptnObvious: BRB, opening El Jahash

          • +1

@CptnObvious: Never tried that. May worth a go. Had lamb penis and testis before. Penis was ok but I didn't like the taste of balls.

Frogs are great, bullforgs are good. I can hardly remember the taste as it has been almost 20 years. I need to put that in my agenda of next trip to China.

          • @CptnObvious: tried donkey last year in China.. not too bad. wouldn't have known it was donkey unless they told me.
            was a jerky style

        • +1

          Tastes like chicken 😉

      • There's alot on my roofs

      • wth

    • +3

years? you mean a decade ago

      • +7

Not really. In 2023 in Victoria the portion was huge. Nowadays you are often still hungry after a meal

        • +2

Just wait now that they have been bought out…

          • +2

@cumova: Had no idea…turns out it's US private equity.
The brand will be moribund in the next few years, a la Nando's Australia.

            • +4

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: nandos is still edible compared to el jannah

              • +5

@Wiadro: It's edible, but they absolutely killed the brand here, mostly by ripping off franchisees, leading to the majority shutting up shop, and portions becoming stingy in spite of the high prices.

        • -5

The portions are still large. I'm in Melb and order from them regularly, and struggle to get through 1/4 breast piece.

          • +1

@MrZ: They used to put sizeable fillets in the burgers. These days they're often not even 1cm thick.

    • +8

That’s what happens when you sell your company.

Stone & Wood is another one that went downhill after it got sold. 💩

    • no one wants to win 2 million chooks they should just give us the dollar value

    • might as well be frog, tastes exactly like chicken.

    • +1

They call that the Nandos trend!

    • +2

      dry and tasteless

    • +1

Free seasoned and cooked pigeon? Bargain! I've been trying to catch one for ages.

  • +1

F me! Why couldn't it be the weekend?

    • -2

      What difference does it make?

      • +2

So he has time to drive down from Brisbane obviously!

      • Because I have school. Because many other folks have commitments going on during that time such as uni or work.

  • +5

My local can't get an order ready in 20 min despite telling me it's ready online. I'm going to skip this day of likely chaos.

    • +3

Itll be like Opporto "Free Chicken" day. After the 5th one, they say they ran out and its only 10:30am

  • +2

Signing up to the app has "Yes send me promotions emails / SMS" as required fields. Scummy.

    • +1

private equity ownership for the win woooo https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/1p9eztp/beloved_…

    • +8

      Signing up to the app

That's the whole point of promotions like this, ie. getting new users onto the App (and cut into the food delivery business model)
and generate the hype / talking points around El Jannah chicken. If an advertising campaign was going to cost something,…this is a cost-effective way to get people talking.

      • +1

I agree, it's just fairly uncommon to actually force you to get the emails (and especially texts).

    • +2

No such thing as a free lunch 😉

    • Scummy.

      How so? It's marketing 101.

      • +1

How many companies actually force you to check that? I can't say I've seen that many times in my life

    • +3

Yes, don't go for this offer if you want to foretell the future using the chicken's entrails.

  • -1

The point of not doing it on the weekend? Likely going to be very long lines and they open around lunch. No one ( that is employed) is going to be able to go to their stores and wait in line.

    • +12

No one ( that is employed)

      WFH WFEJ

      • +2

        Microsoft Toums

    • +2

It wouldn't make much sense to put such a huge strain on the stores during the weekend, plus I don't know of many workplace without lunch breaks

      • +1

Yes there are lunch breaks, but it will all be taken up waiting in line. I assume people will start lining up 10mins before store opens, and may be in line for 30mins.

Also, how many people want to get a full chicken for lunch while at work.

        • “Also, how many people want to get a full chicken for lunch while at work.”
You kidding? That is free lunch for the rest of the week if your workplace has a communal fridge!!

  • Is this for new members or exisiting members?

    • +4

      Yes it is.

      • What so its for both?

  • Do you order in app and pickup in store when notified it's ready or have to physically be in store to claim?

    • I guess it would appear as a promo in app, just like the other promos which means you won't have to be physically in store.

The irony of going to Al Jannah for lunch… during Ramadan fasting

    • +10

Lebanon is a melting part of different religions, the owners of el jannah are Lebanese Christian

    • +3

The owners are not muslim, they are Lebanese Christian.

      • +4

        Lebanese Christians they are

      • +1

the owners are private equity they dont identify with a religion

        • Prosperity gospel

    • Who is Al Jannah?

    • Yeah they are definitely going to El Nar

      • What is el Nar?

        • +1

          Opposite of El Jannah

    • This is Australia.

  • +2

add some bread and pickles and this giveaway would be worth a billion dollars right?

  • -2

Got to offload all those chickens quickly they used as carriers for their other business affairs.

    • ?

      • -3

Got to wash the fenty out of them before they're cooked.

  • Gustavo Fring is not happy with this deal

  • +1

So bad have to give them away! 😂

  • Prefer their chilli sauce, but otherwise count me in.

  • +2

Is there any official source for this claim other than a post from "St George Shire Standard"? The post seems suspiciously AI generated (hallucinated?).

I can't seem to find any mention of this on https://eljannah.com.au/, https://www.facebook.com/ElJannahChicken/, https://www.instagram.com/el__jannah/ or https://www.tiktok.com/@el__jannah.

    • That's a little strange, unless they pushed out the press release a day or so too early? Would be worth keeping an eye on their socials the next couple of days

  • -1

this is so good..no WA store..wish they had one.

  • -5

What's the catch? You need to pledge to keep Ramadan so you cant eat it?

    • +4

The catch is you hand over personal details upon signing up for the app.

  • +1

How does one actually "join Legendary Rewards" to redeem in-store? Will an offer show up in the app on the day, or is there a second stage of signing up somewhere?

    • -1

Nevermind, did some Googling and seems like you need to have also made an app order to be eligible for this offer. So really a buy one, maybe get one free deal?

How do I join the Legendary Rewards program?
Simply download our app and sign up or sign up through our online ordering platform https://order.eljannah.com.au/app/ and place an order. Then, boom you’re in!

  • Free chicken? I'm there.

  • +3

    Dry Burnt Chicken ?

    • -6

      It is Halal chicken.

      • +2

Just like Halal McDonald's chicken and beef

          • +4

@jv: Sure mate, did you like those Tegel chicken? Guess you're at least 1% halal

            • @cmyk:

did you like those Tegel chicken?

              Never tried them.

          • +5

@jv: Veggies are Halal. Water is Halal.

Don’t you eat or drink?? How about Kosher? It’s almost similar like Halal.

            • -2

              @brongz:

              Water is Halal.

              Not many filtered waters.

          • +2

@jv: Haha yes you do. You just don't realise it. Mmmf taste the shariah

            • @DaiShan:

              Haha yes you do.

Nope, i add bacon to everything.

              • +1

@jv: Doesn't change the fact that the beef or chicken you're eating is almost certainly halal-certified champ

                • -1

                  @DaiShan: Nah, it's not.
It hasn't be slaughtered by a trained muslim. It was slaughtered by Terry on his farm.
