How did you calculate the total outright cost to be $1,099?

    • +13

OP’s ETC isn’t correct. Below is the correct calc:

      S26U $2,199
      Less: GC $1,800
      Plus ETC $958.33
Plus 1st month plan cost $99
Less: $100 pre-order voucher (TBC is stacks)
      Total Cost for S26U 512GB: $1,356.33

They also have a trade-in bonus offer of $300 for any $1 device trade-in value, but usually trade-in deals are a hit and miss to stack with Telstra deals. Some stores allow some don’t.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/samsung-galaxy-unpacked

      • Thanks for the calculations. Trade in doesn't stack with this one i had checked.

        • But someone mentioned in another thread that this year JB Hifi is marketing these two to be stackable.

          • +2

@OZBsince2018: The JB Hi-Fi Coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer, or for products purchased together with a JB Hi-Fi Device+ plan.

            https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/tradein

this is what it says. someone can try and let us know. would be good if it does

            • @lobzter: Thats what my understanding is. Last year also it was a hit and miss initially and later was a clear no. So agree with you.

            • +5

@lobzter: Looks like this year they changed it and clarified that the BYO offer and Trade-in offer are stackable.

Read it here after scrolling down a bit.
              https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/samsung-galaxy-unpacked

However, $100 coupon doesn't stack. So the calculation should be as below:

              S26U $2,199
              Less: GC $1,800
              Plus ETC $958.33
Plus 1st month plan cost $99
              Plus $1 trade-in for device
              Less: $300 trade-in bonus
              Total Cost for S26U 512GB: $1,157.33

              • +2

@OZBsince2018: What do you use for $1 trade in if you have a phone worth more than $300 and better off selling?

                • +7

@The One Demon: You can simply do the trade-in using any IMEI and device details even if you don't have one for trade in, and when answering questions just answer doesn't turn on etc, it will give a trade-in value of $1 for that but still give you a $300 bonus coupon.

                  • @OZBsince2018: Thanks! And they definitely don't take that $300 back when nothing arrives?

                    • +2

@The One Demon: No. They max charge you $30 or $60 device non-return fee. For $1 trade in values in past they charged $30 only.

                      • @OZBsince2018: Ok nice! Thanks.

                      • @OZBsince2018: So when you walk into the store you just give them trade in coupon, wouldnt they ask where is the trade in device? When we say we dont have it, wont they refuse to apply 300 coupon?

                      • @OZBsince2018: Which phone did you choose to get it $1? I tried a couple not giving $1. Appreciate for your help

                        • +1

@bibimbap: I placed the order via Samsung Edu store, as got Buds 4 Pro almost for the same price with S26U 256GB.
But you can choose any phone and when answering question just try and select broken screen or has damage etc and I guess it will then give a $1 trade in value for it.

                      • @OZBsince2018: I'd be careful, clause 7.1.d states:

Handle your Device in accordance with applicable law (including, if relevant, if your Device is Block Listed or if we are unable to contact you) and instruct our payment services provider to pay us an amount equal to the value of your JB Hi-Fi eGift Card, pursuant to your Payment Security Approval.

                        • +1

@rbimdxe: I have been signing up these deals for the last 3-4 years and never had any issue. Even last year signed up for S25U as well and the ETC was pro rate of $800, something like $766

                          • @OZBsince2018: Not for the ETC, this is for the trade in bonus gift card ($300).

                            • +1

@rbimdxe: Your contract is with Telstra and ETC is invoiced by them whereas $300 bonus is from JB. There is no way JB can charge that back as ETC

                              • @OZBsince2018: Im not talking about the ETC at all….

This is discussing the terms and conditions for the Trade In program's $300 bonus gift card.

Where clause 7.1.d specifically states that they can charge your payment method for the gift card amount provided (in this case, the $300 bonus gift card for trading in any eligible device).

                                • +2

@rbimdxe: No. The gift card is for the trade in value. $300 is the bonus coupon. Thats why when you do trade in, you receive a gift card equal to the trade in value plus a bonus coupon code. They can charge your payment method for the gift card value which is equal to the trade in value.

                                  • +1

                                    @OZBsince2018: Ahhh.

I have just re-read it and the Section 7.1 states if the gift card was offered as payment for the sale of your device.

I misinterpret that to be the bonus coupon as the gift card, not just the trade in value.

Thanks for helping clear that up :)

                      • -1

@OZBsince2018: Hey man do you know if you trade in but dont send in the phone do they cancel the gift card (not the $300 bonus), refund the charge less the $30/$60 fee or do they just charge the $30/$60 fee and you're stuck with the gift card?
                        Thanks

                        • +1

@Pufff: You keep the GC and they charge you $30/60 device non- return fee.

                  • @OZBsince2018: Do you get the $300 trade-in bonus as a voucher from the JB Hi-Fi website? Do you have a link to it?

                    • +2

@HKB: It is emailed to you when you do the trade-in. So you will receive a gift card for the trade-in value plus a bonus coupon for $300.

                      • @OZBsince2018: Thanks but where do I do the trade-in? Do I take my old phone (which I want to keep) with me when I sign-up instore and the JB Hi-Fi rep does it?

                  • @OZBsince2018: I can get $300 bonus for my old s8. Amazing It's still worth $5

                • @The One Demon: JBH sales person told me you receive $300 trade in plus the value of the phone to be traded in. They said if you trade in two phones, you only get $300 once.

              • @OZBsince2018: Is there any benefit of keeping this $99 plan for few months and cancelling it later instead of doing this in first month? Currently have boost sim that can be activated until June.

                • @Adriftx: If you are ok to pay $99 per month then keep it. It will also reduce your ETC for that many months

              • @OZBsince2018: Can you please, in simple person language describe how I can get this price?
                1. Can I order it online?
                2. I assume "ETC" is the penalty I pay for cancelling the $99 plan early?
                3. Do I have to have a real phone to trade in? Can it be any very old phone? Can I do all this online?

                • +3

@StopSpending: You can do the trade-in online.
                  https://jbhifi-tradein.assurant.com.au/
Just use any phone or device listed for trade in and when answering questions about phone condition, answer like scratches, damage etc so that you get $1 trade in value. Complete the trade in and you will receive a $1 gift card for trade-in value and $300 bonus coupon. You can buy a cheap sim (Amaysim, Optus etc) and activate a number ideally on Optus or Vodafone network. Then head to JB store and sign up for this deal and use your $300 bonus coupon. Just let them know you want to use a trade-in bonus coupon when you make the payment.

                  • @OZBsince2018: Don't you need a valid IMEI?

                  • @OZBsince2018: Does jbhifi send a $300 coupon to the email after you complete a trade in online?

                    • @Jklaro: Sort of, you click on the coupon link on the website and choose the coupon you want to email to yourself as there are a few to choose from.

                    • @Jklaro: Yes. You will receive a GC for the trade in value and and a coupon for the bonus $300

From the JB page directly: (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/samsung-galaxy-unpacked)

Can You Stack Galaxy S26 Pre-Order Offers At JB?

You bet. JB’s letting you double up on value, so if you’re grabbing the new Galaxy S26 Series, you can stack the BYO promo and the trade-in offer to lock in even more savings. Bring in an eligible phone and switch to a JB Mobile plan? That’s the move.

What doesn’t stack? The $100 EOI coupon. That one doesn’t apply if you’re using trade-in.

          • @rbimdxe: That makes the deal even better 👍🏻

            • +2

@OZBsince2018: JB have upped the ETC up to $1100 now, so ETC is no longer $958 but $1054

              • @yummypinacolada: Yes, I saw that too in the CIS. But let us wait and see what would be the actual ETC invoiced by Telstra.

                • @OZBsince2018: The problem with JB mobile plan is you won't know the ETC until you already commited to the plan. We can ask JB staff or telstra chat, but there's no guarantee.

          • @rbimdxe: you can use wither EOI or Trade in coupons. Trade in Coupon is $300

      • +2

Are you sure the maximum voucher repayment fee isn't now $1100 as per Telstra CIS?

        • Don't start this again

      • +1

I guess we can stack trade in offer i guess .
here is what i found in JB site.

What doesn’t stack? The $100 EOI coupon. That one doesn’t apply if you’re using trade-in.

      • Can you please recommend a phone plan that is better than JB's $99 Telstra plan? I am surprised so many people would cancel it and pay outright - what monthly plans are people using that work out cheaper than just keeping the JB plan?

        • +1

OZBs don't use expensive monthly plans. I am with Boost 365 days plan. I paid $220 for it and it includes about 280GB data, international calling, eSIM managed via App so no interaction needed with staff etc. Have been with Boost for 4-5 years now, and never ran out of data.

      • -1

You can't stack trade-ins these days.

        • This year JB Hifi has officially allowed that. Check the link below and read after scrolling down a bit:

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/samsung-galaxy-unpacked

"Can You Stack Galaxy S26 Pre-Order Offers At JB?

      • what's ETC?

        • +1

          Early Termination Charge

    • After reading all the comments, I've noted the final possible deal with JBHiFi:

      Samsung S26 Ultra: $2199
      - $1800 : Gift Coupon (total: $399)
+ 1054.16 : ETC (early termination capped at $1100 in CIS) (Total: $1453.16)
      + $99 : First sim fee (total: $1552.16)
      - $300: Trade in Bonus (total: $1252)
+ $60 : Max fee for not returning your device (total: $1310)

For stackable bonus trade in any device for a $300 bonus card. You don't have to return the device, select options so that the total trade in offer comes down to $1 (although personally I haven't been able to get this figure. Best option is to select Galaxy S8 and with any random IMEI, total offered value is then $5)

      CONCERNS:

      Clause 7.1.d.
Handle your Device in accordance with applicable law (including, if relevant, if your Device is Block Listed or if we are unable to contact you) and instruct our payment services provider to pay us an amount equal to the value of your JB Hi-Fi eGift Card, pursuant to your Payment Security Approval.

I understand that there are no other hidden charges with cancelling the plan other than just porting number to a different carrier after before month end?

      Appreciate your help!

  • -7

Equals 115.625 bucks per month for 24 mth in total. Not tooooooooo bad. The pain is you will have to deal with telstra online customer servo with hey bro how are you? Head-shake shake shake!

    • -1

You just going to pay $1,400 more, for reasons??

      • Um they would be getting the 99$ mobile plan lol
        Not everyone needs it though.

  • Can you use the $300 bonus credit for trade in or is that only for outright purchases?

Negged because I don't believe the calculations are correct and it's misleading

    • Which part isn't correct?

      • +11

Maximum voucher repayment fee. Should be 23/24*1100. OP didn't read the CIS before posting, just copied past JB deals from December

        • CIS states this:
The $1000 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card replaces the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi Mobile or Broadband offer and is limited to 3 connections per customer. Gift Card subject to Terms and Conditions available at www.jbhifi.com.au/giftcardterms

        • +2

          would it not be 23/24*1800?

          • +1

@Jojamc: Same speculation last year with this deal. JB made it seem like you would pay $1700 but if you cancelled with Telstra it was $800 as per the Telstra CIS.
So I would say it will be the same this time $1100 and not $1800.

        • (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received

          • +1

@Jojamc: Thats not correct. Have signed up and cancelled similar deals almost every year. ETC was $800 prior to last year and last year it was changed to $1,000 and this year its pro rata either $1,000 or $1,100 but definitely not $1,800 pro rata.

            • +3

@OZBsince2018: Every year, the same question being asked lol. No one referenced the FAQ that I created a while back 😂

              • @BargainsGrabber: Yes there will be 100s of people asking the same shit again every year. Look at the Telstra network cis.

Last year it was $800, not the full voucher repayment but the JB staff tend to scare people with it for wasting their time. It's still a sale anyway but the markup on handsets is huge.

  • Have to be port-in? What’s the cheapest number to get? $5 aldi?

    • -1

$2 Boost. Probably other sims that also are $2.

      • +5

Don't get Boost as it's part of the Telstra network and ineligible

        • Huh, that's suprising. I ported from Telstra back to Boost for a cheap sim card and was fine so figured that would also be fine.

          • +2

@The One Demon: Just passed Aldi, theirs also $2 now.

            • @hanofee: You need to top up credit to activate the number. I don't think there's any new number that could be had for less than $10 now.

          • @The One Demon: Yes, but other way around it won't work. It's not a port in because it's the same network.

        • $5 aldi

    • i used once Aldi SIM to port to JB Hi-Fi Telstra SIM. It worked like a dream. (Google Pixel 10 JB "deal of the century")

    • I'm not sure how people are using the $2 ALDI Sim. When I tried, you need to top up a minimum of $15 onto the Sim in order to activate it. Total = $17

The cheapest option I found (in a rush) is an Amaysim $2 Sim + $10 top-up (there are also $10 plans - after discount). Total = $12

PS. Amaysim user interface and activation much more user friendly imo.

      • Optus free trial esim works if it's available to you. Did it today!

  • Do you get pre order voucher when you go in store and sign up?

    • when i did it last year, they just deduct the voucher amount off the total so you pay say $400 for the Ultra

    • No usually after, up to a week. You get it for buying the phone, not meant to be used for paying for it but you can use for something else later (or sell minus 10% on here)

  • if i added TRS into the equation, would TRS take the 2.2k as base cost? or from the voucher cost?

    • +2

Whatever is the gst stated on the invoice.

    • +1

If I remember correctly, TRS applies on RRP $2199 of S25U.

  • if the trade in has $0 value, like a galaxy s9, does that mean it can't be traded in for the $300 bonus?

    • I also have S9+

  • Does it state in the cis that the voucher fee in this case is $1100? Or will it be $1800?

    • -2

      $1000
