        Oops finger slipped

This is actually a really good set. Many regard the wheel base as the GOAT of non direct drive. the pedals and wheel are not bad either. for the price, you would be very hard pressed to get something as good as this. If I played on PlayStation, I would buy this.

This was my fist wheel+pedal setup when doing sim racing, instant regret.

While you can technically get by with the wheel, its extremely vague FF feel makes its difficult at best to feel when you about to or have broken traction, but the biggest neg is the pedals. Braking without locking up its extremely difficult, as is trying to accelerate as hard as possible without braking traction.

Honestly, You are much better off getting a second hand unit to test the waters to see if sim racing is for you. If so, save yourself a lot of money and time by immediately jumping to loadcell pedals and direct drive wheel.

Last time I looked Moza R9 was the best bang for buck entry level on PC, and Fanatec for consoles.

      • Cammus was pretty good value last time I looked.

i HAVE been looking to up my euro truck simulator game….hmm

  • What is about Thrustmaster T598 $699? Is it worth for extra $240

    • +4

The 598 is a direct drive, which means the motor is directly connected to the wheel. The 300RS is belt driven, which means the wheel is moved around by belts that are attached to the motor.

As a beginner, I'm not sure you could feel the difference, but pretty much all serious sim racers have direct drive wheels now, as they offer superior feel and control.

      • you will feel the difference, the question is, how important is it to you, and will your wheel be collecting dust after a few hours of use and the novelty wears off? i prefer the wheel and the pedal set that comes with the 300rs, but direct drive, is undeniably a pleasure to use, very smooth, feedback is very clean, and less noise. will probably last you longer on wear and tear if you intend to keep it for several years

    • Nah if you wanna do direct drive go for fanatec

good deal. my mum has a thrustmaster too but her's looks a bit different to the one in this deal

    • +2

      That’s dad to you, whippersnapper.

    • +1

Is it one of those old school ones that takes like 6 D batteries?

  • -3

I'd HODL. The pedals on the admittedly noisier Logitech g923 - especially the brake - are agreed to be superior, and you can get that unit for 459 anytime you like, and I suspect the full bundle with the shifter will be back down around $399 on the next major sale same as they were kicking around on boxing day. This smells like a stock clear of a now overpriced unit.

Neither wheel will compete with direct drive, so of the two I'd totally go with the one with better pedals.

What model would you recommend for a good buy right now? I actually am serious about getting a wheel setup for euro truck lol

I prob won’t bother with a driving frame, so pref to keep it under $700 for a decent and long term viable setup

      • +1

I'm in the same boat as Jimothy.

Keen on a frame though, although the wheel and shifter are ok for now.

        • +1

Check the reply to Jimothy below for more. You can get a frame on FB marketplace from someone else who has quit for (normally) next to free.

On amazon the G923 at 459 is the best value buy in my opinion. As stated, I expect that next major sale most options will be available below 400, hence the hodl.

But, for truck sim or snowrunner on PC or XBOX the G920 SE pack from JBhifi at current price ($450) is a great choice because you basically get the free shifter (SE stands for 'shifter edition' not special edition). Having a physical shifter is really fun for the immersion of roleplay games; whereas for racers most people now use flappy paddles unless they're larping an old car or whatever.

You don't get the trueforce of the 923 on the 29/920 but that's more useful for games where (and this is getting sim-race nerdy) feeling the road surface tension matters, which it really doesn't in truck sims or other non-competitive racing contexts.

For context I'm a super casual GT enthusiast and I play a tonne of Snowrunner. I have the G923 with no shifter.

Ayo there’s a $30 perks for $300 spend atm too!!!!

          Tempting

Thanks for the info :) might swing by jb and suss..

    • IPYF, the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT + Shifter here were bundled for $399 during boxing day?

    • +6

Sorry but the T300 belt is on another level from the G920 series and definitely the better buy, I’ve had both

      • Ok great, thank you!

I'm just wanting someone to confirm if the T300 RS GT + Shifter were indeed $399 during boxing day, that's a crazy deal.

      • +4

Yes was quite a funny read to see OP imply the G923 is the better buy when its factually an inferior product. You can feel the gears when you turn the steering wheel on the G29/G923 and the pedal feel is very meh. Its a very entry level wheel and I would take the belt drive at this price over the logitech without a doubt.

  • +1

I think I only got 2 years of Assetto Corsa/AC Competizione out of my T300 before the internal power supply gave up the ghost. Shame, because the wheelbase itself was great.

I replaced it with a Moza R5, though in hindsight I should've gone for an R9 (so I could use heavier rims).

  • Ok, I'm a Euro Truck Sim guy and have only recently got into Gran Turismo 7 for PS5, so a real noob when it comes to the peripherals.

I bought the Logitech G G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel + Shifter (Still sealed in the box)

For an extra couple of hundred, would this be a huge improvement on the Logitech?

    • +4

no improvement. you need to go for direct drive

    • No. Many people think the G series logitech is marginally better because of the pedals. The thrustmaster is and has always been overpriced.

    • +2

Maybe a slight improvement, but still in the same ballpark - Direct Drive is where you will see the next big leap in terms of feel and force feedback.

  • Anyone recommend cheap racing simulator seat?

  • +1

Don’t fall for the cheap Logitech trap, this set is superior in every way.

Bought this exact one from cashies for $250 a year ago and have had no issues. Love it; cheap enough that I don’t feel pain putting it away for a few months. Doesn’t feel like a complete toy and you can always sell the wheel and replace it with F1 one as the wheel and motor are seperate.

Resale values on these are strong as well, you could easily resell this set for $300-400 not much loss.. meanwhile the logitechs flood the market.

  • my racing games are all on Xbox. What would be the equivalent to this for Xbox Series consoles?

    • there isnt one. TS-XW is the closest equivalent, but its also belt drive and more expensive.

You might as well pony up the difference and buy a T598-X

      • ouch $899 for the T598-X. Thanks for the advice

  • if you can, i highly recommend a direct drive. it will cost more, but it is better to buy once, cry once.

  • I just bought a Fanatec CSL DD. 200 bucks more for DD is well worth it. If you're looking for a little cheaper, the Moza r3 is a great entry to DD for PC and console. Can pick up the set at about 550 to 590.

  • This is such a trap, in 6 months you'll have a full Sim rig, spent $3000 on iRacing and upgraded to a 21nm wheel.

  • Honestly these are so old you can easily pick them up on marketplace for around $200

  • I got T248 for $275 few years back, and it's decent for its price for belt drive. If you're going to spend 500, might as well get cheaper belt drive, or just go straight to direct drive. Direct drive also has better resell value.
