          I think it will be unlikely to find that price before the rebates get cut in May. Most companies/subbies are working overtime and booked solid and are being selective on jobs, prioritising higher $ jobs.

    Also I'm not sure the average person will know whether to opt for CQ6 or EQ42. Might be helpful to spell out the pros/cons of each?

    • There is no Fox ESS model named EQ42. It's actually EQ4800. 41.93kWh capacity model is EQ4800L9.

      CQ6 is newer model. It's got higher energy density and therefore its lighter. It's got longer warranty 12 vs 10 years and has inbuilt fire suppression system.

        Yes, EQ42 refers to EQ4800 L9(41.93kWh). “EQ42” is just our internal product code (similar to EQ37, EQ32, etc.), but I get it can be a bit confusing. Meanwhile CQ48 refers to CQ6 L8.

    Bit steep. I only needed a 10% deposit and balance due after completion with my installer.

  • Humble advice, AVOID AVOID AVOID Fox .
    I got stung , have my system for over 2 month now, been trying to reach support to rectify a couple of problems (so is my installer) for a week now with no luck.
    Try calling their support before buying, if your call goes through, let me know .
    No response to support tickets also.

      They have a 24x7 hotline that is supported by Chinese staff.

      Try calling later in the day and you will get through. 8 called for 3 days with no luck. Then I decided to call at 6pm on a Friday and got through within 2 mins.
      Their support was very good once I got through

        I tried calling the chinese 24/7 number, listened to some music then then line just disconnected. Hopeless

          • @nicolascage: I get random export /import from the grid with equal load even on very load at my home, example, 1am to 2am, export 0.05 khw, import 0.05 kwh. Over the month that adds up as export is 4c and import is 35c.

            Called my installer, hopeless, called fox australia , no answer while been trying for a week. Called the Chinese 24/7 support since today morning no answer (line busy)

            I cant change the settings of the inverter myself as im end user, to be able the(useless) installer has to remove himself as my site admin, he don't know how to do it, and im trying to reach to fox with no luck.

            If your installer is hopeless and you get into issues, then you'll be high and dry.

            Genuinely id pay a couple grand more to go with a decent company.

            • @yaaNaa: I get similar and i have the new 15kw hybrid inverter. Random inport/export but generally only a few watts. When I researched it apparently its normal

              It needs to retain sync with the grid. If the compensation value is zero then it'll do that.
              If the compensation value is +20 then it'll draw from the grid to retain sync.

              If it's -20 it'll feed to the grid to retain sync.

              If you don't want either, disconnect from the grid and run it in backup EPs mode.

              I guarantee you every other brand will behave similar.

              It's not a fault but normal behaviour.

              • @edrift: I understand its a config issue, the problem im highlighting is more about lack of support. Some community support support forum in UK suggested exactly what you mentioned, but I'm unable to try the fix as i have no access, installer is hopeless, and foxsupport are non responsive. The last one is what worries me the most

            • @yaaNaa: This is completely normal and you're wasting your time with support.
              On a grid-tied FoxESS system, seeing very small overnight values like 0.05 kWh import and 0.05 kWh export is completely normal even when the battery has sufficient charge. The inverter continuously adjusts output to keep net grid flow near zero using its CT meter, and because measurement and control are not perfectly instantaneous it can slightly overshoot, causing tiny alternating imports and exports that accumulate in the hourly data. These flows are typically only a few watts and reflect normal grid synchronisation and control balancing rather than the system actually needing grid power.

              • @cheaptech20: Agree, however over 24 hrs, they add up.
                I set meter compensation to 50w, and since then my usage is $1 / day less, which pretty much pays the supply charge.
                Small change but thats over $300/ year

                • @yaaNaa: But it's impossible to get zero is what I'm explaining to you unless you're off grid…
                  On a grid-tied FoxESS system this is normal and essentially impossible for a battery to eliminate completely. The inverter must constantly balance load and stay synchronised with the grid, and small CT meter inaccuracies mean tiny imports and exports will occur. Setting 50 W meter compensation simply biases the system slightly toward export to offset that measurement mismatch, which is why it reduced your billed usage.

              Try calling Australian companies over Christmas and New year's and it's similar skeleton staffing.

  • Take this from someone who got solar installed recently and researched quite a bit.

    Ask for a quote with GoodWe ESA Battery and Inverter, much more reputable of a brand and has been in Australia for 10-15 years.

    For me a GoodWe ESA system was only about $2,500 more than Foxx and decided GoodWe was worth the extra $$.

    • yeah, got the GoodWe ESA setup from Cerium Energy in the last deal posted. Bang on Job and the guys were awesome as always.. only thing is the Inspection time is through the roof(2-4weeks) quoted by them and ESV as well..

    • We are very much in the era of price / quality.

      Doesn't always correlate. I bought cheap Growatt batteries years ago and the install was up to my fussy standards. (and been perfect for 7 years so far).

      Watched the neighbors getting Neovolt solar and batteries. They dragged the panels across his tin roof with one hand (and the corner). Scratched the crap out of his gutters.

      No decktitte on the roof penetration (just silicone). Not in wall. Conduit straight down from eve. Went over while they were doing the battery. Isolators, at the bottom of open conduit. Gave em the tip of water ingress. Grabbed a business card (so I never get that sub contractor).

      They had a 48kw/ 10kw battery for $7k. I'd pay a little more to avoid that…but if I am paying more, it better not be what I witnessed across the road..

  • Why is cable $30 per extra meter?

    For reference, I just bought a 100m roll of 6mm 2C+E for $250. That was retail (but a decent deal).

    Guess it's the equivalent of fries at Maccas…but supersized .. 10m covers the cost of the whole roll..

    Same with the sub board for $500?

    Sparky direct has $50 sub boards and only need the extra connection to the mains (the other connections you need to do anyway).

    • Because cable doesn't lay itself. $30/m is fair considering it includes any labour (drilling, cable feed, climbing in roof space/cavities) and material (conduit). I believe Aussie Solar Batteries charge $100/m.

      • But you need to do all those things anyway, and that's included in the price.

        The two ends need to be passed through a wall etc. It's just cable length / conduit in between.

        $100/m from a cost base of $3/m is nuts.

  • I had a good experience with PA Power. They installed a 6.6 kW solar system, a Fox ESS 42 kWh battery with Fox ESS 10 kW inverter. It took less than 2 weeks from signing the contract for the work to commence. The installation was completed in 2 days: day 1 - roof solar installation, plus battery and inverter delivery; day 2 - battery and inverter installation and electrical work. A third-party electrical safety and compliance inspection was arranged for the following week.

    Overall, I am very happy with the setup and the installer. They are not perfect, but they have exceeded my expectations so far. Some minor items are still outstanding. I’ve been told that the required paperwork has not yet been submitted to the energy distributor. The system has been working flawlessly for about 2 weeks now.

    Fox ESS is a very decent system. The app is quite good and allows you to monitor energy flow and usage, schedule battery charging from the grid, and also force discharge to the grid. Firmware can be updated directly from the app over-the-air.

    I contacted Fox support once to make a minor tweak to the inverter settings, and they completed it remotely within 24 hours.

  • I would like some more information on the 30kw inverter.

    Is your 30 kW Smart Pro inverter (3P) the same as the H3-Pro-29.9 that is the only inverter model listed on the Fox website?

    The H3 Pro can do 45 amps per phase on their data sheet.
    Does this mean that we could do full house backup?

    • By default we use H3 Pro 30.0.
      The H3-Pro-29.9 and H3-Pro-30.0 are slightlydifferent versions — in some regions a 29.9kW model is supplied due to local grid compliance limits, and we provide the correct version based on your network requirements.

      While the inverter can output up to 45A per phase, full house backup ultimately depends on your load profile, switchboard configuration, and battery setup rather than the inverter rating alone (so nothing would burn). For safety we only do essential backup at this stage but full house would certainely coming.

    • Yes we do. However it can only reach 42kW and about $800+ difference so I didn't list it.

  • The profit margin on this deal is huge. I paid a simialr price recently but also got 31 panels installed. Panels took longer to install than the battery

  • I'm getting 10kW of Jinko Neo Tiger 475w panels, 52kW of Sofar batteries inc 2x 5kW "smart" inverters installed tomorrow in Brisbane. $13,770 inc GST after rebates.

    • Who was the installer? Does that cost include all the blackout switchover etc extra stuff?

      • $13,770 I paid, included everything. My power bill for March was $13.63 (95c/day connection fee & 28.8c/kWh usage, 5c FIT plan). We had a number of wet / cloudy days too. Never drained the batteries. Battery was connected on the 3rd of March.

  • I'm confused by the Backup / Blackout protection and Additional backup circuit extra charges

    Does this mean that without paying these extra charges, if there is a blackout the battery won't kick in to power the house? Will the battery will work on all circuits when the grid is connected but not when there is a blackout?

    And I need to pay $1000 (for the first circuit) plus $250 for additional circuits (up to 4) to get this to work?

    Asking because our area is prone to blackouts and we have lost all the stuff in our fridge a few times :(

    • Yep that's correct. And even if you get blackout protection they'll do it the shortcut way and you won't get solar charging the batteries during a blackout. They need to install an EPS-box-sp and extra config to allow for that.

    • Correct. Standard grid-connected solar systems shut down during a blackout due to anti-islanding protection, which is a mandatory safety requirement (no one want soalr power to hit the electrian try to fix the grid, right?)

      The same applies to battery systems unless they are installed with a dedicated backup/EPS configuration. With backup enabled, the inverter forms its own ‘local grid’ and can continue supplying selected circuits safely during an outage. For Fox ESS and most brand they have EPS module to be ready for electrian to add extra backup; for sigenergy and few brand they have built-in blackout protection module (so it formal an local grid within battery) but generally cost 14k+ after reabte.

      Without that backup setup, both solar and battery will shut down during a blackout even if the battery is fully charged.

      To be noticed, normally we just backup fridge light and wifi as the inverter has limitation…

  • Hi, @milkteas My house already has an existing 10KW battery system installed four years ago. I asked for a quote, and PAPower told me I can keep my old battery system and just install the second Fox ESS battery as AC coupling. They inspected my property and said it does not require approval from United Energy if I only install the battery for my second system. Is this true? Can you please check and confirm?

  • I am scheduled to have a 48kW CQ6-L8 battery with H3-Pro-15.0 inverter installed on Monday with PA Power. I will let everyone know how the installation goes and how the system performs.

    • How did it go?

      • It hasn’t happened yet. My guaranteed install date came and went without anyone turning up. I have been told an error occurred in the office and my installation was not scheduled due to an oversight. Currently they have no stock of pro inverters but I believe this will be solved shortly. I am trusting Junyi will make good on his promises for a speedy installation without additional delays. I will post again once this occurs.

  • @Kjiana - I received a quote on March 6th, and my system was installed on March 17th. It took them half a day to install the Fox Ess KH10 + EQ4800-L9.

  • I had my battery installed last Thursday. Signup date was Feb 28th. CQ6 and H3 15.0 Pro inverter. Neat installation. There were 3 installers on-site the whole time. Started at 7.20am and finished at about 12:00. It was a 3 phase installation using all 7 available free slots in the switchboard. The 6 CT clamps were installed (to monitor grid + existing 3 phase solar ac coupled). No backup phases installed. They removed all packaging. The electrician did a great job with the difficult task of getting all the wires through with the limited available space inside the switchboard. The electrical wires were installed in the roofspace and this was done quite quickly.

    The whole process was not all smooth sailing; the install was originally set for Mar 16th, and no one turned up on this day. After contacting them later that day I was told they currently had no Pro inverters in stock at that time. Its likely that had a chosen the more traditional Smart inverter the install time would have been quicker.

    I chose PA Power since they were the only installer in Victoria installing CQ6 batteries and Pro inverters. The previous week I visited the offices in Mulgrave and looked at the stock. At this time the Pro inverters were not in stock and this changed early this week when they got some Pro inverters from the distributor. The reason I wanted the CQ6 batteries was because they included fire suppression modules in each battery module. I wanted I feel more confident leaving the battery installed for 15+ years, without having to decommission a working battery in the future simply due to the fear of fire risk due to battery age. That was my thought process. The CQ6 also allowed a larger battery size 48KW vs 42 KW for the EQ4800 on 3 phase. It is worth noting that at a wholesale level, once the rebate is taken into account, there is no real cost difference between a 42kW and 48kW Foxess battery system.

    Initially quite impressed with the quietness of the Pro inverter, on the install day it was a cold and rainy but I couldn't hear any noise from the inverter whilst it was charging the battery at 15kW. On the second day I heard the fans start up for about 1 minute after the batteries had been charging for at least a hour. I was initially hoping the H3 15.0 Pro would be able to charge the battery at 22.5kW (due to its AC input rating in the datasheet being 22.5kW). This hasn't proved possible yet - not sure if there is a setting in the installer parameters which will make this possible. If not, it may just be limited to charging at the rate of 15kW just like the H3 15.0 Smart inverter.

    BTW, it is also worth noting the Pro inverter doesn't come with the inverter cable cover, it seems they only made that for the H3 15 smart inverter. There is a $250 to $300 cost difference between a H3 15.0 Smart and a H3 15.0 Pro inverter. They look very well built and designed for heavy duty commercial applications. Given the pro model range has versions which extends all the way up to 30KW, the heatsink design and cooling will be more than adequate for the 15kW version. Even after charging the battery for 2 hours at 15KW the heatsink has still remained just warm.

    I experimented with the MeterCompensation setting - initially choosing -30. After this setting was made by the installer, the inverter still seemed to draw around 150W from the grid during self use mode. I therefore compensated with a larger value. (-200). This resulted in a 200W export during self use mode. The required value is likely around -120 to -150. Please note that this value is only applicable to Pro inverters. The Smart inverter version seems to require values around -30 to -50. Perhaps anyone installing Pro inverters can report their findings. I think I am one of the first to get a Pro inverter installed. Every install has a ideal value which changes, and is affected by CT clamps power meter accuracy and spikes produced by home devices turning on and off during the day.

    During the first day, the app was quite flaky. Initially, it refused to consume from the battery during self use mode, and some of the scheduled events vanished. During this day some of the firmware was updated, which was done through the app myself, so that may have been related. The past few days it seems to have been operating just fine. Yesterday I had no consumption from the grid at all, but I was sending around 200W per hour to the grid, and over 24 hours this adds up to exporting 4.8kW (hence the reason to get the MeterCompensation better tuned). This value can only be set by the installer on the day, or later from Foxess tech support (which is hard to get through to sometimes).

      They are a great unit and been faultless.

      Agree with the cable cover, this will come at some point.

      • I bought myself a H3 15 Pro cable cover from OSW, they came in stock a few days ago. It simply clips in place.

    • I have found meter compensation = -90 is best (For H3 15 Pro).

    • Initial emails was promising and then got ghosted a bit - immediate red flags

    • I had the very same problem. They kept on telling me Western Power was holding up the approval process. I called both Western Power and Synergy and they said there had been no application put forward. I found it awkward and quite troubling.

      Here I am waiting for my deposit and yes like others on this feed the feeling is highly disturbing.

      • Still waiting for my deposit return as well. They promised to return it but every week is a new excuse why it hasn't happened.

      • My deposit was finally refunded but I found the journey troubling with the chasing around.

        • If anyone else is reading these comments, keep persisting to get your money returned.
          Typical of this industry - responsive till they get you signed up, then crickets about any detail.

  • sent a request never heard anything back, in VIC and just need a battery
