Been a while since a 1" sensor camera phone got released

    • Which are the other 1" camera-sensor phones ?

      • +1

I had a Lumix CM1. It was fun to play with.

        • +7

Ah yes I call my friends on the lumix cm1 as much as I text with Excel spreadsheet

          • +7

@CodeXD: Holla when you get this

          • @CodeXD:

Ah yes I call my friends on the lumix cm1 as much as I text with Excel spreadsheet

Does that mean you don't call your friends?
            It's a 4G phone after all.

        • I knew about this phone when it first came out, but I didn't get it, because I could not unlock the bootloader.

That CM1 has the same sensor as the Sony RX-100 camera.

      • +1

        Vivo X100 Ultra

App Store -> Google Play Store
      NFC payments -> supported

        • +19

It's the global version not the chinese version.

            • @Wiadro: Pretty sure they don't have Google apps preinstalled on chinese roms or should I keep spoon feeding you?

            • +8

@Wiadro: It's selling on the Australian Xiaomi website. They just got announced globally.

      • -1

Who was even talking about Apple? Really man?

    • +20

Way to show everyone that you're an iphone user.

        • +13

It's like he wants to farm the downvotes

        • +1

          even worse

    • +2

      Blind sheeple lol

  • +19

This, or the "Listerine FreshBurst Antibacterial Mouthwash" deal?

Both have nice emerald green colours.

    • Plax is better than both

      • Tastes terrible

        • +2

          Worse than toilet duck?

    • Go with the breath of fresh air

  • +17

Limited Ultra phone with Photo Kit at the same price as Find X9 Pro.

Oppo pricing in AUNZ is really questionable

    • +2

Agreed. X9 Pro is much cheaper in other global markets there's a solid markup in AUS
RIP when trying to capture a percentage of Apple Samsung dominated country

    • +1

Yeah super disappointing how expensive it is in Australia. Difficult to grab market that way. Pity because they are genuinely excellent phones.

  • +37

Samsung pre order deal stacking every year makes these deals seem pretty bad in comparison

    • That's true but Samsung has become boring tbh.

I'm so bored with my S25U. Amazing phone, but boring.

      • +18

I do like how these phones have bigger batteries and 1 inch sensors, but hard to justify a $600+ premium over the s26 ultra base model

        • The bigger battery will be the one thing that’ll make you keep the phone 2+ years.

Used to have to get a new phone every two years as the battery wasn’t worth replacing

      • +5

True. I’d rather see generational spec bumps like Silicon Carbon 6000mAh+ battery, 90 watt charging, built in wireless charging magnets, HP9. As Samsung is a multinational tech manufacturer I’d assume they have a strong R&D department. If they weren’t so complacent and continue to ship refreshed flagships with a miserly sprinkling of AI features, we’d be seeing Tandem OLED, bezeless and no punch hole smartphone tech right about now.

        • +5

Samsung most likely playing it safe not using silicone carbon batteries to avoid any potentional Note 7 repeat and will use solid state batteries in S27 or S28.

        • Major manufacturers are apparently avoiding SiC batteries because of its tendency to expand over cycles..

      • -1

“Boeing phone”? What do you want it to have fireworks every time you received a message?

        • -1

When did this jump to discussion on aviation?

    • what would you recommend in the same category?

      • -3

Samsung S26 Ultra is better and good..
        Now have offer and deal.
Price better than xiaomi 17 Ultra

        • I read your comment "No better than apple and samsung." to mean both Apple and Samsung are also shit. Samsung is great but simply saying "Samsung S26 Ultra is better and good." is like a caveman saying "Is Don, is good".

Without jumping through any hoops, the current pricing is:

Samsung S26 Ultra with 1TB/16GB pre-order is currently $2649 and then RRP will be $2949.
Xiaomi Ultra Leica edition with same storage and processor but bigger battery and arguably the best camera hardware and software atm is $2299 which includes the extra camera kit worth $349 without having to go through any hoops.

If you know of any S26U 1TB/16GB deals that don't require EDU, Commbank Yello or any other requirements that are better than the equivalent Xioami 17, I'd love to see you post the deal.

      • Xiaomi are objectively not shit, even if you disregard their phones, they have competitive range of products.
      • They don't have to be cheaper than Apple or Samsung, it's nice to have someone else compete at the highest end.
      • Everyone copies and the market likes to see who copies and integrates the best. :)
  • +9

17 Ultra has its photography audience and so has an appeal. Cheaper than iPhone 17 Pro Max and has a stronger Samsung HP9 telephoto sensor, compared to the iPhones Sony 48MP telephoto, that was the android flagship staple 2024-present.

Xiaomi 17 is essentially an iPhone 17 with a telephoto, but for a AU$200 premium over the latter via resellers it’s hard to justify it. Literally.

Xiaomi wants to make premium phones but in my mind they’re a budget brand. Wish they come with free chargers.

    • +2

I thought it did come with a charger?

      • They don't anymore as far as I know.

        • They did from Hong Kong for me but not Aus charger.
Not a fan of Apple ecosystem and the way they fake content to enhance camera pics (everyone does it, I just don't like Apple's "mediocre camera/heavy enhancement" approach). So I ran from Samsung to Xiaomi 15 when previous line was released and am pretty happy.

  • Anyone know if they are able to get the 10% birthday coupon to work or is waiting for theirs after setting the birthday to March?

    • Never heard of this, can you please give more info? I'm keen on the 17. Want to sell my S25U and get it if I can get it down to close to $1000.

      • I'm on the mi store app and have a banner for 10% off storewide when setting birthday for that birthday month. I've set it to March, so I guess it might come in a couple of days.

    • I bought a 14T, 15T, and various Redmi/Poco, etc. devices prior - registered on their Aus site some time ago but didn't add the birthday…Added as soon as I saw the banner but as it was during the live launch it was after midnight… Their clause specifies it needed to be added in the prior month. Reached out to support and got fobbed off…

  • +3

4 major android updates, decent but worse compared to google and samsung (both 7 major android updates)

      • +7

Why not? Photos and videos in mobiles have reached a peak for the past 5 years and other features have also been incremental updates

      • +4

5+ years easily. I don't upgrade every year and I pass it down to my family.

      • +3

Yes, all of my phones have lasted 5-7 years. Huawei mate 20 pro is now over 7 years old, still an amazing phone with incredible battery life but no OS updates unfortunately. iPhone SE 2020 still works fine and is still supported, but battery is crap as per usual old iPhones.

      • +2

Yeah not every one needs an ego boost by getting the latest and greatest every year.

    • -2

With Xiaomi and many other Chinese brands what being promised and what got delivered are two different things. Somehow western and eastern maths are different calculation.

  • +3

Xiaomi please give us $100 coupon for 17 Ultra

    • +5

It's a Sunday, so Xiaomi will read OzB posts on Monday, after defeating the Cloudflare check.

  • +1

Damn I just preordered the S26 Ultra 512gb for $1480-$198 (Buds4). This seems like a much better phone for only $300 more you get much better camera and battery and faster charging. And there's probably gonna be better deals in a couple months.

The only thing Im unsure about is the OS support and also third party app support, performance, longevity, etc…and I have a dslr already so probs dont need.

    • I am on the same boat, should have waited…

      • +8

What’s stopping you from cancelling your order….!!!!!

    • +6

What’s stopping you from cancelling your order….!!!!!

      • +1

And that's a reason to neg?

      • +2

That's fine but why are you negging when you also don't know?

      • Photos from reviews look better in my opinion because of the bokeh, more light and dynamic range, it is much closer to a DSLR than all Samsung and iPhone, a huge step up.

Battery is 19hr on GSM arena versus 15hr S25 Ultra(maybe the S26 Ultra could do a bit better they are still testing it but probably not that much better)

Under 50 minutes for 6000mAH charging, S25 Ultra was over 50 minutes for 5000maH.

Just look at reviews before buying.

The only thing unaddressed for me since I havent looked much into is if the support for apps will be good, Ive had xiao mi phones in the past and some things were slower because developers dont account for them. So I am undecided atm. I like one UI and the amount of customisation so not sure if HyperOS will be better

For $300 if i didnt have a dslr already i would do it, but $300 less for better OS and support is pretty good too.

    • +1

Reviews have been mediocre and the software support pretty average

      • Source on software support reviews? I want to see before i cancel my s25u order, havent found many reviews where they show which specific apps perform worse etc. Just seen that the Xiao Mi has way better photos, battery life and charging speed.

    • +7

Not true, android auto on official global release works well, you might have china version with global roam and not optimised to work, go to XDA and find out how you can activate it.

      • +1

Yeah be likely just has China ROM with English language. My Global ROM works fine with Android Auto.
@alyLin look at flashing your phone to the Global ROM

        • Yes and no, even flashing global roam on china phone won't make android auto work, will need extra steps to make it work

    • I bought a grey import 15T Pro from a local reseller. It's the global version and works fine with Android Auto.

  • +12

For people considering this, with the recent S26Ultra Pre Order offers, if you got it around 1300ish, it is going to compete with the stock X17, and for that price, I guess S26Ultra would be a better pick. But anything about 1500-1600 Xiaomi blows Samsung out of the water IMO in terms of Camera and battery and other areas

    • +1

      Very well said

    • +5

Chinese phones have pretty average video recording stabilisation. Reviews have confirmed that the 17 ultra struggles with this issue. Also battery is overrated in terms of real world use. On paper Samsung looks like the loser but real world use and software optimisation is where it is the winner.

      • +4

Yeah well said, this is why Samsung is getting closer to the Apple approach. Software wins.

PS: Just bought the 17 Ultra, might as well give it a roll!

      • +3

That's why they do real world tests. And the Xiaomi wins. I found Samsung did great with the battery in the S25U but they really need to up the size, it's just not competitive and they've squeezed about as much efficiency out of it they can.

  • +6

No coupon stacking, how can anyone consider this a deal lol. Xiaomi get your Ozbargain going man!!!
Give us some promos to stack

    • how can anyone consider this a deal lol.

Or… get that Nubia Focus 5g from Optus, and save yourself $1300-1700 for something else ;D

  • +3

No 17 pro Max? Are they holding release for later?

    • +1

Not releasing. Just the compact flagship and Ultra. Following the same trends as previous years unfortunately. We should be happy I guess as other manufacturers keep their Ultra to China only.
