Paris and Rome Stay with a Toddler

Looking for hotel or airbnb suggestions for around 5 days in Paris starting 20 April and checking out 25 April!
Followed by Rome from 25 April to 1 May!

Goes without saying checked everything possible and am currently confused.

Looking to spend less than $2000 each or hoping to spend less $3000 on stay for those days in total.

I am wondering if it’s necessary to stay close to city and suggestions location wise for both destinations.

We love to eat and see places that are toddler friendly!

  • I mean, both Paris and Rome are huge cities with millions of combinations of things to do and places to stay that would be convenient for those activities. It's hard to give a suggestion without knowing what it is that you are intending to do and where you are intending to go.

Probably better to start off by figuring out your itinerary and activities, then finding a place to stay that would make sense for you. If you can come back with a rough plan, that would make it easier to recommend something. It might also be worth thinking about your transport options - are you intending to take public transport, walk, drive…etc.?

If you don't really want to think about it too much, then just take your pick of a major chain hotel in the city centre - it probably won't be the best value or the best experience, but it'll be a reasonable enough place to stay.

  • No offence but you are looking pretty late with a tight budget of ~1500EUR. I assume that is just the accommodation budget?

For Paris I'll try to find where I stayed last time. It was a good area, walkable to everywhere I wanted to go to and near a metro (important). Because of the metro in Paris you can stay a bit further out but you have to balance that with dealing with longer trips in and a toddler.

Rome is trickier. Again I'll try to dig out where I stayed. It was close to The Trevi Fountain. There is also an excellent Cacio e Pepe place just nearby but enough streets away from the touristy bit that it is actually ok price wise. Their metro/light rail was also decent, it isn't as good as Paris but it is ok.

What do you want to do in both cities? You'll have to be a bit realistic. You won't be able to see everything and travel days can be long for a small child. You'll definitely want a day at the Colosseum in Rome, but like I said I don't know how much of walking around art galleries your toddler will take. There are things to do outside as well and fingers crossed the weather will be on your side but you never know!

    • Thanks for your comment. Agreed that i am a bit late into booking. there is a very strange reason for this, and some personal circumstances is making me try and hold on a tight budget.
We don't really want to walk a lot but i noticed Uber was cheaper in Paris at least compared to a bump up in hotel prices as we stay close to attractions. but i figure we will have to take some transport to most attractions because of the toddler. This is her first major travel so i don't have much high expectations on her walking all the way.
In Rome the stay is quite reasonable but we also want to go to Florence and pisa. So, We are tossing about staying in once place in Rome and do the rest as day trips or split the trip into 2 iteneries . but the flights are from FCO.

ideally, we want at least the food places to be nearby and not be completely stranded.
Ill await your reply and want to close the booking today if possible.

      regards

      • Can't for the life of me find the place in Paris. Thought I had it at least saved. I have a feeling it was maybe in the Latin Quarter.

As for getting Ubers, I mean yes you can. Just keep in mind Paris is not a city that is designed for cars.

Rome you can't really get uber and again it's pointless getting taxis. It just takes ages. I stayed just near the station. It was a hostel so probably not what you are after. A Quick Look on booking.com suggests there are places in your budget around that area though.

Pisa is about 2-3 hours by train. I mean it is doable as a day trip for sure (it'll be a bloody long day). Florence is a bit closer.

Osteria del Sostegno is the place I was talking about 13EUR for a bowl of pasta which isn't bad. Remember pasta in Italy is considered a first course.

There is heaps to do in Rome. Personally I'd group Pisa/Florence/Venice together for the next trip.

        • Thank you for your complete guide. This is what I was looking for . I’ll proceed with my bookings and might park Pisa /florence for the next trip as suggested.

  • Plenty of air bnb in Rome - try around the piazza del popolo

    • Thank for your suggestion. Appreciate the mention of exact neighourhood to target

      • Its a good spot for a toddler as the piazza is traffic free (mostly) so there is some space. Its still in the tourist area but just a bit further away so calmer, however most of the main sites remain easily accessible without too much walking (its near the train line). Piazza Navona/Monti is another spot that is good to stay at - closer to some of the main sites, but not as close to the trains. Its not as green/near parks and is more crowded (and probably more expensive) but is closer in.

Villa Borghese is somewhere to head with toddlers (its a park with, of course, art galleries and so forth)

For Florence, in a day you can see the duomo and wander along the river etc, and I guess could squeeze in a gallery, but you are only touching the highlights. Its quite a small place so its always crowded - not great with a toddler but survivable. A day trip is probably ok but its 3 hours on the train and you wont see very much. Tivoli is a quieter (obviously less famous and less impressive) day trip from Rome if you dont want to do the crowds - however, you can easily spend your whole time in Rome and not run out of things

  • Yes you can.

  • youd be better off going to morocco

    • And risk bumping into jv?
