Awesome, I’ll grab a few of these.

      They’re Chinese junk of course

So you diss it and yet are happy to buy more than one. The cognitive dissonance is hilarious.

        • +2

I think the issue most people have is with the implication that all Chinese products are junk.
If you buy cheap sh*t there's a good chance it's junk, but that has nothing to do with it being Chinese.

          • -3

@DeToxin: Its more to do with being racists, like Kung Flu, China Flu, probably trump supporters.

            • @RTX9090Ti: What's wrong with Kung Fu?

It's possible some may stumble into expressing implicit bias or microaggressions. It's also possible that China produces a lot of shoddy products, to be expected for a country that dominates the production of low cost consumer products.

No other country can sell you a "robot vacuum" for $6. It may be laughable but less so than the price. Doesn't mean China don't also manufacture the world's most sophisticated robot vacuums and dominate that market too. Many things can be true at once.

                • @RTX9090Ti: Thanks, didn't get the reference. I vote socialist so hardly my man. I'm also of the opinion China's domination of manufacturing and scientific research will only expand. Again, any country at the bleeding edge of low cost production will inherently make plenty of products inferior to higher priced alternatives. Not sure why that is contentious.

Diwali is that time of the year when we all act surprised to receive the same box of Soan Papdi we gave to our neighbor last year

Bad texture or something else? Not everything about them. Everything?

Weird thing to say. You all good?

        User name DingoBlue explained everything.

            @DingoBlue: Oh something's broken alright.
Were the chargers okay? Managed to snag some?

            • @Speckled Jim: Not yet - hopefully they’re not all gone!

                • +1

@capslock janitor: Hi yeah I managed to grab the last two at a nearby store.

From what I can tell each store only received six in total, making this the most blatant case of bait advertising since The Never Ending Story. Straight to the ACCC, boys.

I haven’t tried them yet sorry. Someone else was pretty positive.

@DingoBlue: I nominate 711 app advertising $10 for the 4 pack of cheesecake Krispy Kreme, unobtainable. Went to a few 711 didn't see a single cheesecake donut let alone the prepacked 4 pack.

The good stuff is also Chinese. Better than expensive junk that America puts out

Show me some Aussie made true blue non junk chargers cobber?

    • SB

  • can it charge the laptop with typeC usb?

    • How much your laptop worth?

    • +1

Your laptop can be charged with 45W charger?

      • m1 macbook air that will max it out yeh

      • All mine are fine with 45w. M1, i7 etc.

      • I use my M3 (and earlier, M1) MacBook Pro with the 30W port on a Belkin 108W. It's stil working fine - never seen it complaining. Of course, it's kust barely enough for normal use, and will take many hours to charge from 0 to 100% (may be overnight?)

The 65W port on that charger is being used for a Lenovo X1, which would complain if it was plugged in to that 30W port.

        • lenovos won't work with many 65w 3rd party too… :(

      • 33W Anker USB C wall charger can charge my Lenovo 13.3 inch laptop, quite fast.

      • +3

They will just charge slower. I can charge and stay at 100% on a 45w charger, but if I am playing a game I might lose 15-20% an hour on a 30w.

        • +1

the co issued business laptop (thin and light) uses a 90w charger which is quite heavy and cable is too long. i don't bring the charger home, so wondering if this thing could just charge the battery

          • +2

@alexGoodwin: 65W might work but 45W probably won't if the charger it comes with is 90W, most likely you will get a message popup saying the charger provides insufficient power and it doesn't work.

          • +1

@alexGoodwin: If you know the model of the computer and look up the manual for it online they usually specify the supported charging speeds

      • Many charge on 45w or 15v.

    • Depends on your laptop, Chromebooks usually charge at 45 watts

    • +2

I just tried the 45W on a dell and an acer laptop, and it didn't work on either (and they both work with other 45W adapters)

  • +3

I saw these at my store yesterday, didn't notice they are GaN. Should have picked one up.

    • -1

Can't you tell by the wattage and size ?

      • +5

        it's in a box

but it says gan on. the box so that's a better clue

  • +2

Can’t find these anywhere on the Arlec website…!!!

  • +1

True, but like Officeworks with their printers, they change a digit on the model number, to avoid price matching, which is identical to the one on their website

But with this Arlec GaN charger, I cannot find any identical one, anywhere.

Anyway, no big deal just an observation. Waste of my post, I guess.

    • Probably a Coles exclusive that they asked Arlec to provide as a one off

  • +5

How do we find stock availability in stores?

  • +2

Seems to be only a select number of Queensland stores only:

    https://salefinder.com.au/61044/food-and-beverage/groceries/…

  • Thank you for that sale finder link, I wasn't having any luck locating any stock.

    • +1

This just shows me Coles locations but not stock checker 😕

      • oh crap I assumed wrong

  • Can confirm there were plenty today at Coles, Jamison - ACT

    • Thanks, Civic didn't have this. Will check Jamo!

  • +4

Doesn't charge Dell laptops at all (tried on two different ones). Works on everything else I've tried though, Thinkpad laptop etc.
Note that Dell laptop will be charged with a 45W thinkpad or dell charger, so it's not just a current limitation.

Avoid… using it on devices that it doesn't work with.
      Thanks for the tip!

  • where is the link. only see a shopback link ??

    • +1

      https://salefinder.com.au/

Enter whatever postcode, 3000 for melbourne
      Click Coles Logo
Click on Light Up Special Buys Catalog
Go to page 5 and in the bottom right of the catalog it should have the various USB chargers at $10 each (in-store only)

Here's the direct link to this product
      https://salefinder.com.au/61044/food-and-beverage/groceries/…

      • +1

Went there, put in my postcode (and tried 3000 too) - got a list of stores that may as well be on the moon for all I know!

        • +1

It doesn't show store stock, have to go into a Coles and look if they have any.

          • @Agret: What's the point of this website then, may as well just use Coles website or Google Maps for nearest Coles location.

            • @voldemort: The website is one of those sites that uploads the physical catalogs of each store. It doesn't just track Coles there's a bunch on there you can check the latest deals.

        • yeah none of them are familair to me at all https://ibb.co/pjzRr8pg

  • thanks OP grabbed some

  • I got one needed a double usb charger for a overseas trip. Charges my phones fine also camera charger. Also works fine for Lenovo laptop.

    • Overseas trip? So you need to carry an adapter as well, sighh…

      • I just connect an adapter to a 4 port power board and then you can take whatever chargers you normally use at home.

  • +1

I’ve tested the $10 45W Arlec charger so you don't have too.

While this charger is a non-grounded power adapter, my Lenovo Chromebook originally shipped with a grounded 45W unit.

The charger performed as expected. While the new adapter lacks a dedicated safety ground (Class II), the low power draw and the likely inclusion of a Y-capacitor to manage leakage current suggest this should not impact device safety or performance.

Surely this charger has to be better than those random brand chinese ones.

    • +1

+1 for the elec safety assessment

  • I had a look at a Coles for this yesterday but I think all we'll find is empty shelves.

    • My local Coles (NSW) has heaps. Mostly 30w black and pink chargers left, a few 45w. Clearly this has to be a price mistake on Coles part, not even Kmart could sell a 45w charger for $10. USB A Quick Charge 3.0 and USB C Power Delivery 3.0 so good.

  • Didn’t see any in coles broadway

  • any online ?

  • Why does this deal which seems unattainable have some many plus votes?
