Deal is back on again and they've restocked, I bought a heap of vodka from them previously and it's pretty good for mixing, better than smirnoff imo
Bought a bottle of the QLD dry gin for a friend and he quite liked it as well

  • Excise on that is $30. With GST $33. Are they paying it?

Got a bottle of each last time and finished the Vodka. Very smooth and got 3 more bottles this time. Got 2x of everything else too. Stocked up till winter.

    • Which one is the closest to roku?

      Why didn't you upvote?

      • +2

Only opened Australis Gin and the vodka. The australis is very botanical, Roku is much more mellow. Not sure about the other two, but dont get Australis if you are after Roku flavour

        • Thanks 👍

  • Am i missing something ? I'm not seeing vodka/$25 or gin/$29 on the site.

Use code stock26 at check out

  • Ah ok. Ta

  • Do they offer pickup? Can't see it on their website

  • +1

They are pretty good for a quick nip, ive bought from them when they were still banned on here as Brisbane distillery

  • Nice one OP. Thanks. Got a couple.

Got a mixed pack from these guys before. Very mixed levels of quality.

They have like 4 or 5 different brand names (Rivertown Gin, Gin School, Queensland Distillery, Brisbane Distillery, Captain Moreton etc), and they also didn't list an ABN on their receipt which raised quite a few red flags - as well as the nonstop unsolicited marketing & SMS messages constantly.

Also went into liquidation previously? With the owner being a scam artist; not suprising there are several ABNs linked to the group with the same rego dates & locations.

    Do not recommend.

    • Are you sure they’re the same as Brisbane Distillery? It says on their website they purchased it (which makes sense, it went into liquidation years ago).

They also list plenty of those other companies on their site. But it’s not clear the current business is tied to the scammer.

      • +10

Qld Distillery website lists Gin School, Captain Moreton etc in the footer
Gin School website in the OP's listing has a bottle of Captain Moreton on the front page
Brisbane Distillery website also lists several associated business names in the footer

Given the two ABNs I linked are both registered on 29 Nov 2021 and are still active, it's a pretty safe bet the businesses were phoenixed and not ever sold to a third party.

The two liquor licence numbers vary; 230779 doesn't give a result (not even expired?) but 230820 comes up as Artisan Gin which matches.

I figured the new company would have updated the website and put their new brands on, if you look at wayback machine it didn't have any of that in 2023.

But then I looked up who owns the artisangin.com.au domain, and it's Jon Atherton. So yeah, same fraudulent idiot.

        • +11

Yeah the MO seems to include:
          - set up countless “separate” businesses to take advantage of the excise exemption
          - build up your creditors then phoenix away and hang them out to dry

I’d avoid these cats on that basis alone

I bought these back at start of January. Ive only ever had two texts.. one of them was today about this sale.

Payment was fine, products arrived quickly. No issues for me at all.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. It's one thing to judge the product and your cost, however reconsider your position on your govern mental.

Don't hate the player, hate the game

Huh? Not sure what you're trying to communicate

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines
        Issue with product:

        Very mixed levels of quality

        Issue with retailer:

didn't list an ABN on their receipt which raised quite a few red flags

I think I covered both neg vote guidelines pretty clearly, if that's what you're referring to

      • +4

Why can't we hate the player when it leaves a trail of destruction every time a company goes into administration and assets are miraculously bought out by a newly created entity?
I've seen this process severely weaken and sometimes unsecured creditors they themselves have to close up through the greed of some parties 'just playing the game'.

        Self serving pricks.

        • -2

In that instance, they are still the player. They were played by the game. The Governor of the Mental is the party you want to target, not those distressed by their control.

          • @ohgee: You're a mug if you think we don't need consumer laws or taxes. Take a look where there's little rule of law or tax; that's where they put methanol or worse into booze and everything is caveat emptor. Here we just make laws and decide not to police them for large corporations or where it's too hard.

            • @Big L: Cool. While we're throwing names, you're a shill who doesn't think.

              • @ohgee: Yeah, I'm one of the sheeple who hasn't learnt their critical thinking skills from Facebook or YouTube

    • He looks a bit like the guy from travel guides.

But yeah definitely looks like a pump and dump off to a new 'totally unrelated I promise' company to rinse and repeat.

It's seen of often in a number of industries, I just don't understand how the regulators don't see it, or if they do why they let it happen?

    • The vodka is fine though

  • Gin is decent. Havnt tried the new vodka, previous vodkas were bit hit and miss.
    Rum is close to undrinkable.

Awesome price so ordered 4. 1 vodka/3 gins.

Almost all of these "craft" distillers just buy in bulk ethanol from Manildra.
For the Vodka they just add water to it and then bottle, for the gins they often distil it again with some botanicals and then bottle.
For the 'rhum' school they water it down and then add concentrates.

Manildra make quality industrial ethanol, so no real issues there.

      • Is that real?..
I had the mental picture of big copper stils making craft spirits with love and care…..
Seriously is it just watered down factory made stuff?

        • Yep, no small to medium distiller can come close to how cheaply Manildra can produce ethanol from wheat. As I said ,for Gin they do distil it again to get the flavours out of the botanicals, but they start with watered down Manildra ethanol.

Imagine trying to report this deal as spam 🤣 Got it last time and will get more now.

  • +3

Bought a gift voucher for a gin school in Brisbane many years ago for a friend. The number of spam emails I continue to receive to this day despite selecting unsubscribe multiple times amazes me.

  • Thanks OP

  • Delivery to Tas?

    • They ship via AusPost, so yes.

  • +1

Did anyone get a confirmation email?
They charged my card, but nothing here.

    • +1

      Ditto

  • +2

Put in an order for some vodka and gin. If they're just ripping off the taxman by having multiple shell companies each claiming the $400k alcohol excise exemption, I'm fine with that. The tax is too much.
If the government doesn't reign in alcohol tax soon, it'll turn into another black market like tobacco.

  • Like everyone else, I also bought previously.

The gin is really good, however, a couple of them are quite cardamom heavy, and personally I'm not a fan. If you're like me, just skip any with cardamom and you'll be good to go.

No shipping confirmation yet. Ordered on 2nd

    • Neither sadly. Hopefully early this week.

    • Same.

I emailed them about it and got the below response - I had missed reading that on the product page.

      "Thank you for your email.

I have had a look at your order and it was purchased during our most recent sale, as noted on the product page of all the products these orders will begin being sent once our restock completes on the 12th of March.

Please let me know if you have any other questions."

      • Thanks. Will wait then. Definitely didnt see this though.

      • Oh yeah I missed this as well but it is still there.
        "Restock & Shipping 12 March."
I wish companies would slap this type of thing right in my face so I can't miss it.

      • Wow also missed this… Payment taken but can't see any confirmation email… Hopefully they send it soon. Has anyone had there's delivered yet ?

        • I wanna know as well

  • I received a shipping notification about 3 hours ago.

  • Dang Sold out of Vodka, just missed it.
