  • Out of stock for me and Tasmania, unfortunately, I would’ve jumped on that one

    • +28

Jumping on it would likely damage the outer casing.

    • It’s $529.00 on their eBay store without any discount code.

    • +1

Everytime we've tried to buy appliciancesonline machines they cancel our order and say no stock, but still have live listings.

Pretty sure they just don't have cost effective logistics to us in TAS.

  • God damn, I just bought mine from Samsung official for $650 (incl cashback) and i thought i had a good deal.

    • +2

you did but this one is BETTER

    • +1

      Would you recommend it?

  • +1

Anyone that has this can comment on it?

I’m using a seperate washer and dryer for a while now but wouldn’t mind combining them

    • +37

There is no such thing as a good washer/dryer combo

      • +1

        lmao

      • True. Always a compromise. Only get one if there's no way to have it separate.

      • I'm pretty happy with my Bosch 10kg washer dryer combo. Havily used daily and always does its job. No complaints.

        • +1

I have this too and it's my favourite appliance. Saves so much time and effort with perfect washes every time. As long as it's not overloaded it's amazing.

Not sure why washer/dryer combos get such a bad wrap when there are some good ones out there for reasonable prices.

      • i mean, this unit uses a condenser dryer, but if people are balling, they can go for the WD18DB8995BZSA, uses heat pump.

    • +4

I had a combo for about 10 years, and we barely used the drying function.

For starters, it consumes more water to do a dry cycle than a wash cycle. The type of drying it does, always left the clothes slightly damp. It was also very harsh on clothes, even using the low temperature setting. Underwear elastic would be wavy after a cycle and clothes shrank that would never shrink in a traditional dryer.

Cheap tumble dryer for the win.

      • +4

I'm confused, what does it use all that water for in a dry cycle?

        • -1

          to dry it duhhh

        • +4

They use cold water to cool the air and condense water vapor during the drying. My particular LG model used something like 70 liters to dry.

      • +1

New ones have compressors and dont use so much water.

    • If you actively use the dryer, then I wouldn't combine them tbh - these are good for the one or two off times a month when its piss pouring and you need things to dry, but not for a replacement standalone due to the amount of water it uses and time from what I read.

Washing side though - as I have the addwash (not dryer)

Wash side, its the same as any other washer, infact these addwash ones (mine anyway) takes longer than my older samsung washer. Even if i tune the settings down, it takes about 20mins longer (there was "daily wash" setting on my old one) - this one has none but yeah.

Never had an issue with the addwash having issues as I don't tend to stack on too much clothes each load at once, Add wash though just means an additional point of leaks or failures - however haven't had an issue with mine for last year at all, infact use it often when I forget some stuff :)

    • Not this but an LG one that we got because we didn't have enough space for both a washer and dryer.

I was sceptical but I don't think I could go back now that I've gotten used to it. The drying on ours isn't as good as a separate device (I do overload it probably) but it gets the job done fine and the convenience outweighs any cons for me, especially with a newborn.

I'm not great at moving clothes from the washer to dryer or doing laundry during the day, so it's also convenient because it means I can start the machine at night after showering and simply unload the clean and dried clothes in the morning.

  • Is it really good? Because the reviews seems to be bad. Any real world experience? I knw the reviews are from real world experiences 😅, but I trust my ozbargainers

    • +5

      bad

      But it was cheap!

    • +5

There is no such thing as a good washer/dryer combo

      • had an LG one for 10 years. been great.

        • How is the dryer? I've always heard it's better to get them separate.

          • @howieyo: The tumble action of a dryer is different to the agitation action of a washing machine. Getting the most out of both in a single drum makes it less efficient than separate units.

          • @howieyo: Yeah cheap heat pump much better and way more efficient

    • +2

      Had one. Bad

    • LOL! it's Samsung…what do you expect?

have you tried their laptop, TV, mobile phone, washer, battery…etc?
all broke down after warranty…especially the cheaper model, unlike other brands would last much longer!

  • +1

great price, but I personally have not had great experiences with Samsung washing machines and fridges, but maybe I've had an unlucky run.

    • +1

I have a Samsung washing machine for 6 years and counting. Added their dryer to the fleet and all good.

    • I have had a Samsung washing machine for about 14 years and it is still going strong. A couple years in with a Samsung heatpump dryer and no problems but still early days.

  • +3

The dryer is not heat pump one.

    • Is there a washer and dryer combo with a heat pump under $1k?

      • Ture. They're expensive. Therefore, I just use my heat pump dehumidifier to dry out the clothes hanging in the laundry.

  • +4

The add wash thing leaks on these. Had one, an absolute pos. Powerboard fried in 10 months. Took two weeks for Samsung to attend to fix it. And it's playing up again and now it's in the garage replaced with a Beko. Grrrrrr ….

    • +2

      Absolute point of sale??

  • I love the idea of a combo washer dryer but I feel like ultimately if it's catering to both, it's gotta be sub bar at both vs if it was dedicated to one thing, right?

We rent, so a combo unit would be great, as we run washing everyday or every other day minimum thanks to Guinea pig bedding so a dryer would be amazing for their stuff alongside normal towels..

Based on comments combo units are never great, though…? Our LG top loader is still going strong 8 years though.. So probs not ready to change anyway. Gotta rely on ye old sun/air!

    • +2

there's just one guy who, for some reason, can't figure out how to use washer dryer combos, telling everyone else that they are bad. he probably doesn't know how to read large numbers like "9kg/6kg". they're massive time savers for being able to just set to run while you're at work/at night without needing to come back and unload-reload halfway through.

i've used ~6 different budget washer dryers in the ~$500-1000 range over the years, none of them were functionally bad. the biggest difference came down to UX - does it remember your previous/favourite setting to get started in 1 click? or do you need to make ~3-5 clicks before every wash? and yeah this isn't a massive deal, but it's almost impossible to confirm before you buy.

      • -2

They are objectively bad, its not someone who doesn't know how to push the buttons.

There is a reason these aren't more popular, and its because they are bad.

Even LG is making a single unit with two separate washing/drying compartments.

If you absolutely need a dryer and have no space for one, that is the only scenario I would suggest getting one

        • +1

Essentially - don't buy it expecting a good dryer, it's good to use in a pinch if you have hours.

Wash side is normal like any other samsung front load washer which I never had issues with thus far, fingers crossed.

        • -1

Your perspective on this is essentially the same as "sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs are objectively bad because they only do everything well enough. Get a dedicated sports car and a 2-ton van instead. Only get sedans, hatchbacks, or SUVs if you have no space for dedicated vehicles."

LG making a single unit with two separate compartments is not a logical argument for why combo units are bad. Coles sells apples, that doesn't logically translate to "oranges are objectively bad".

These are all tools. Maybe they're not suited for you, maybe you're not evaluating and using specific tools intelligently according to their purposes and well-known compromises.

      • +1

Make that 2 guys. Never had any luck with em.

  • +1

Not the exact model think I had a smaller size addwash model and as usual with any combo wash/dryer it was average, washing took long, drying was average at best and had a bunch of issues (leak and pump issues), started making grinding noises at some point.

To Samsung's credit they were quick to come and fix but I would avoid. The hassle wasn't worth it imo.

  • bargain! thank you!

  • +2

Got a 8kg/6kg Samsung washing machine combo 4 years ago and it still runs well
for those concerning the washing + drying cycle that took 6-7 hours
you can actually customise the drying duration in 30mins block (default one is 6 hours)
usually 2 hours are enough for my clothes to get dry

Besides, this combo washing machine / dryer is a condenser dryer
so its not as energy efficient as heat pump but it wont create too much moisture
since I also have a heat pump dryer
I normally only use the dryer function when I got big loads to be washed
so when the first load washing is completed, move those to the heat pump dryer
and the second load using the wash + dry function

    • +1

Wow, 6-7hours is massive… But I can't say we'd use it for clothes generally; for us it'd be fleece/toggles (our pet bedding) and towels. MAYBE sheets (but not the fitted with elastic)

I gotta wonder the energy use on running it that long though, especially if semi regularly.

      • +1

Sometimes it takes me 2-4 business days to wash and dry a load because I forget I washed it until the next day and have to start again, 6-7 hours doesn't seem so bad lol. But when I DO remember a load is only about 2.5 hours between the washer/heat pump

  • Question for the electronics experts, why can't I find a combo washer-dryer with heatpump? They just don't seem to exist, even newer models are using inferior condenser tech, is it mechanically impossible or something?

    • They're expensive in australia currently, but have already picked up in china. you could import one for about ~$1.5k AUD including freight, but then you'd be dealing with lack of warranty and resale value. Since the chinese are already oem-ing for most of the brands you see in Aus, we'd probably see them officially retail here in about a year or 2.

  • +2

Buyer beware. Samsung and LG washers rank the top 2 brands to avoid when buying washers. They're designed to fail shortly after the warranty period.

    • My LG washer failed after 10 years, replaced the hall effect sensor for $50 and been good for another 2.5 years so far

So maybe just my individual unit was not designed to fail

    • As above my lg going strong after 10 years

    • I have a 17-18 year old Samsung front loader that is still going. It makes slightly different noise than it used to, still spins and does all its stuff.

  • Had a Samsung combo for 15 years and it’s not too old (just too noisy) Thank OP.

Dryer is not suitable for someone who uses it regularly but it’s good for an occasional use and or for someone with limited space in laundry.

  • insane price. bought one

  • +3

I wouldn't say washer/dryer combos are bad as they have their place. Most of the time when people complain about these it's because they've never used a condenser dryer and expect them to dry as fast as a tumble dryer. It's like comparing a gas cooktop to an induction cooktop. Induction is newer tech and so there is a learning curve but some people will flat out reject it because they didn't spend the time to learn how to use it.

Yes, condenser dryers take much longer say 2-3 hours compared to 1 hour to dry clothes. They do get much hotter than a tumble dryer so be careful with synthetics. On the flip side, I find a condenser much gentler than a tumble dryer as it's not turning your clothes into lint. Also, if your laundry is not vented, a condenser is a good option. Combos are great in that you can load the machine, turn it on, and come back to a load of clean and dry laundry.

For this particular model the drying function is rated for 6kg which is a very small especially when you take into account that wet laundry weighs more. So even though this is a 9kg/6kg machine, don't expect a great wash/dry cycle if you fully load it. Doing so you'll end up with damp, musty smelling clothes.

I bought a Samsung 9kg/6kg back in 2013 and it was still going strong when I replaced it about a year ago for a LG 12kg/8kg combo. The larger size is much better if you have a family. There's an even larger model, but that machine is physically larger whereas the 12/8 has the same dimensions as my 9/6.

This is a great price and if you don't like the drying function, you can still buy a seperate tumble dryer.

    • +1

Very good post. If someone needs to use a dryer on a daily basis then this is probably not a good deal.

In my case, wintertime, our clothes can be damp after a day on the washing line. To be able to put it in the dryer for 1-2 hours is a good solution.

Once again, in relation to Samsung washing machines, they are great.

I also bought the 3 year extended warranty. $120 for 3 years is a no brainer.

  • +1

Lots of people talking about combos but no one about this specific model. Trust me it's a dud.

    • The good thing about a warranty and Australian consumer law is that your are protected.

If an entity has said that the machine will perform in a certain way and it does not do that and it is deemed misleading, you will get a replacement or a refund.

      • +2

yeh, good luck with australian consumer law these days. whole warranty setup is a scam and support hierarchy designed to run you around til you give up, zero clarity on who's even servicing things and if you make it through that headache, appliances themselves built with planned obsolescence everywhere and the way they'll fail will leave you high and dry…. drums that are welded in and cant be easily replaced or worked on without huge labour costs…. leak seals that are designed as weak points that'll fail and they'll claim is user fault from overloading etc.

  • +2

yeh good price, but wouldn't touch this model. high probability to fail, then you'll struggle with service for weeks/months on end only to finally get some help and be told the cost to fix will be more than its worth and directed to buy something new.

  • +3

Seems to have a lot of poor reviews for reliability. Perhaps why they're clearing stock.

  • +1

From watching a lot of white good repairers the general rule is avoid Samsung white goods, however this is quite cheap and might be worth the gamble.

On the topic of washer dryer, this is a compressor dryer, uses more water and quite a lot of heat. I have a LG version and while it's convenient to have a single unit do both, I chose this because of size constraints. The clothes do wear faster, screen prints get ruined quicker, get quite a bit of shrinkage.

I am eventually going to move to a washer dryer combo with heat pump dryer. Hisense offers the best value option currently but they're still 2k+ 12/8kg.

  • +2

Check the feedback of this unit - one said it took 8 hrs for a wash and dry cycle…. what you save - you pay more for power bills.

  • Seems like a great price but not so great unit….waiting for the heat pump washer dryer combos to come down in price.

  • +4

I used to work at Samsung corporate. Unless you really have no space at all, a 2 in 1 washer dryer combo is a bad idea. The fault rate for these are multiples higher than separate washers and dryers. There are compromises required for a machine to have both functions and I have yet to see one of these without a significantly higher breaking/damage rate.

    • Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it.

  • Not heat pump though is it? Only issue

  • I ordered my machine yesterday 9am (Perth), it was delivered and installed today 2.45pm.

This was my first purchase from Appliances Online.

I received a tracking delivery SMS around 10am. I could follow the process with an updated ETA.

They installed it for me. Took away the box as well.

    Very happy customer.

  • Why are only select states listed? I see no problem for a QLD postcode

  • Dropped to $465 now and $30 extra off first purchase discount could stack.. But no delivery available for me anymore

    • Did you try their eBay store? The price is the same there now.
