Virgin Australia to Doha Then Europe

Hi everyone, I redeemed my Velocity points for VA1 from Sydney to Rome (via Doha) on 21/03.

Given the current situation in the Middle East, I’m wondering what Virgin Australia is likely to do if there are disruptions or if the airspace remains closed. Would they typically cancel and refund the points, or would they rebook passengers onto alternative airlines (for example, Singapore Airlines)?

I booked this trip several months ago, and it’s proving quite difficult and expensive to find last-minute flights to Rome now, so I’m a bit concerned about my options.

Any insights or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

  • Even if flights start again in a few weeks it’s possible you’ll get bumped for a cash fare passenger. Or in business you’d be likely no hope. Fingers crossed it settles quickly !!!

  • You'll likely get the points back and a refund on the taxes. You've got a couple of weeks to go so don't cancel anything yet or the normal cancellation policy applies.

  • I doubt they will re-route you on another airline as everyone else will be asking for the same thing and there wont be enough seats.

Unfortunately its a wait and see approach at the moment and pray things settle down.

  • anyone know if hotel bookings with cancellation fee can be redeemed from virgin travel insurance from credit care for europe?

  • Cancel now before Doha disappears of the face of the earth and there goes your refund.

  • the war will be over by then.
doha may not be there though

  • If it's a Qatar codeshare, I understand they have been making rolling refunds available, however the most recent advice is there are now limited flights INTO but not thru DOH as of today.

Be that as it may, money is one thing, and safety is another. We're scheduled to fly thru DOH in the next couple of weeks, and I'm hoping the option to refund comes thru soon. The situation is far too unpredictable IMHO.
