lenders are less likely to take you as a customer if you use these pay in 4 services

    • This is a broad generalisation.

Lenders are looking at poor conduct. I use Afterpay all the time, I then have the payments come from my credit card, credit card is cleared monthly - No interest charged.

Funds stay in my offset account as long as possible. Small amounts, but it's better in my pocket than a banks.

Macquarie bank don't even count BNPL as a liability if you use it as a tool like I do.

      • +1

Great that you've had a good experience.

However, that doesn't make it the norm. My lender had NFI what to do with them. I ended up closing most of them given I wasn't using them anyway.

In most cases if there's a credit limit you'd think they should count it as another credit card.

    • if you don't miss any payments and pay on time every time i can't see why using pay in 4 would go against you?

  • Sorry, this offer is by invitation only. The PayPal account you’ve used to enrol is ineligible.

    never used pay by 4

  • I got it but just bought over $200 this morning from Aliexpress :(

  • +1

Does pay in 4 do credit check?

    • Never that I saw and ive had dozens of PI4 plans, if the purchase is within the profile of normal spending on the paypal account I think they just automatically allow it, but if you had a new account and tried to make a large purchase id say that would be a different story.

    • PayPal says "We may carry out a check to determine whether this Pay in 4 Facility is suitable for you"

They didn't do a credit check for me when I last used it - however I have an old account with heaps of big purchases and only made a small purchase for pay in 4

    • I tried to use PayPal pay in 4, I was rejected.

I used Pay in 4 all the time for things like groceries, never missed a payment. Now PayIn4 ins't presented to me in the checkout screen.

I don't understand why they would take it away from a customer who always paid their pay in 4 off, unless that's what they don't want

    • +3

Same happened to me. I spoke with PP a d they said they do random credit checks. I am not able for PayIn4 now.

My theory is that they want people to default and gain fees. They don't people who have good standing accounts. They are preying on people defaulting otherwise the model doesn't stand up.

I have since stopped using PP. They suck as a company and their share value shows that their days are numbers. It won't be that long until it's PayWho?

Yay to fintec and it's disruption.

    • where do you buy your groceries that you can use paypal pay in 4? never had that option in qld to be able to do that at coles woolies etc

    • Also depends on what you are buying, I've noticed I can never use it for booze. Paypal pay in 4 doesn't exist through Dan's, BWS etc, but can use on Coles/Woolies.

Interestingly I can use it on boutique shops like Nicks Wine Merchants.

  • Yay, I got the email and then came here to see the talk about spending on GC…

  • Thanks OP- received e-mail offer!

  • +1

Hmm. Very odd. I accepted the offer. Then when I tried to redeem at the woolies GC website, I "applied" and got bounced.
You have to agree to some credit check, and I don't recall having bad credit at equifax.

    • I checked illion/equifax and no hits from Paypal - seems I must've clicked a wrong answer in the response and got bounced but no credit check at all.
I guess I must not be their target market - maybe need kids under 18 and a low income…

    • PayPal will also reject you for other reasons, including not having a regular pattern of using PayPal. It's true, I have not paid for anything with PayPal for a long time.

  • i got the emaill… but i get Sorry, this offer is by invitation only. The PayPal account you've used to enrol is ineligible.

    weird

      Same happend to me!

Does Australian Post billpay using PayPal pay in 4 count?

    • I like to clarify this as well. If this works we can make a prepayment of $200 in 4 = $50 each on bill payment. correct?

  • +1

I work in finance and I can confirm this does randomly show up on credit files and cause issues with loan applications. If they do a credit check it will also lower your credit score which can lead to higher rates on car loans, personal loans etc.

Not saying don't do it just be wary.

If your credit already isn't great then best not to risk it.

    • I had an NAB Now Pay Later account for a short time, it worked fine but it seemed more trouble than it was worth. Repayments had to be made about two weeks apart, so unless one was living pay to pay, what was the point? I cancelled it. However, the interesting thing was, my credit score actually went up after I started using it. (I know because I was checking my score on Equifax, ClearScore, MoneyMe and Finder at the time.)

    • Wasnt a big deal for me, my broker asked me why i have all these pay in 4 payments (afterpay/zip/paypal) i just said i use it to stretch the credit period and earn points on govt payments. They said smart man.

      • how does it help your earn points on govt payments?

        • credit card treats govt payment with no points, but if its paid via 3rd party, then it gets points. Too bad the zip pay trick is dead:(

Just be aware PayPal absolutely suck for customer support. A month and 1 week later, I still have outstanding Payin4 “authorisations” transactions. Basically $600 frozen in my account which is being held, every time I call they tell me to keep waiting. I can’t actually payin4 anything else because the 4x $600 is my limit be they keep arguing with me it’s not the case (despite error messages when I try saying I’ve reading my max limit). One idiot told me the problem is my mobile app and told me to reinstall it (I don’t use the app to purchase, just make repayments and check the balance) I have friends that I found out have the same issues. Their call centers are useless. Highly recommend using other payday loan services. Getting into week 6 now and they absolutely suck ducks. Enshitfication hit them hard.

  • I received this offer and tried to use it on the Samsung EPP portal, but the option to pay in 4 isn’t even showing.
Terrible UI, looks like PayPal is stuck in 2008.

    • Wonder if that means 'the first 25,000 people to enroll in the offer', or 'the first 25,000 to spend $200+ after enrolling'?

  • Did the link worked for anyone?

  • Sorry, this offer is by invitation only. The PayPal account you’ve used to enrol is ineligible.

  • has anyone used austpostbillpay and qualified?

After enrolling, bought something worth $200 and splits x4 .. 1st payment gone.. should I get an email that I am eligible for $20? Didn't get anything yet

I want to pay off the remaining $150 now.. is it ok to do so or will it void the deal?

    • Have you figured it out?

      • Well, I have paid It all off.. nothing from PayPal yet.. lets see..

  • Do you have to manually pay the instalments, or do they come out automatically?
PS. "Sorry we can't offer you this payment plan"

  • "Sorry we can't offer you this payment plan"
Are they looking specifically for low income earners?

  • +1

"Sorry we can't offer you this payment plan"

Got this error when making the payment. Just when all good to go paying the first $50. It's kind of stupid with just $200 payment in all. I wonder how many people got the offer than reject at pay

  • Nope

  • Didn't get the email from Paypal but was able to enrol via the link - was able to successful purchase $200 worth of GC from TCB gift card portal using Pay in 4, now to see if the cashback will come through…

    • Which gcs did you get from TCB? And did you get charged a foreign transaction fee like others have with TCB?

  • Gave this a crack buying a $209 Woolworths gift card. Hopefully the $20 lobs into my account.

    • +1

I can't even log into the gift card portal with any of my four accounts!

Btw this isn't expired. The time should be 11:59pm tonight.
