    250 for this or 189 for a 5600?

    • +3

For gaming the 5500X3D is going to be better with higher FPS, low 1% etc. If you're relying on non-gaming tasks where the CPU speed is more relevant, then the 5600 is going to have faster single and multi threaded performance.

    • I will trade you my 5600 for this

    • +2

Here is a gaming performance comparision. Its paired with a 3080Ti, but its not saturated anyway and anyone buying these CPUs will mostly not go anything faster.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFxx2XDcDAU

If not gaming this should show the CPU performance, 5600 is very slightly fastter. I think with curve optimisation both should hopefully performan the same in non-gaming scenario.

      • Any VR benchmarks for comparison?

        • +1

VR is more heavily dependent on GPU as it has to run 2 displays. If you are buying a system for VR, you are better off going for AM5 with 7800X3D and a 5070/9070 GPU atleast.

          • @[Deactivated]: In my experience its the other way around. Especially with older games. (pre 2020)

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008913678858.html I'd get a 5700x for a few dollars more than the 5600x.

Not many games will really make use of it, but for the small extra cost it seems worth it. Plus it means tasks in the background are less likely to interrupt your gaming with more cares.

      • this is the 5600X3D not the 5600X.. the extra cache is what makes it more desirable for gaming

do we wait for the AliExpress anniversary sale in late March?

  • umm isn't that discount code for a higher amount.. oh do i need to set it to usd for it to work

    • AUMR35 or AFFAU35 takes US$20 off US$159 and the price before check out is US $181.99.

      • all good it was the usd vs aud, in aud its 35 off 280.

        • Yeah that would be the currency conversion drifting from when the codes were first setup and calculated. Gets worse as the sale goes longer usually. USD doesn't have that issue.

New AM4 CPU in the year of our lord 2026. Wowee.

    • +1

To be fair it was released in 2025 for Latin America. Still wowee even then 😜

      the goat platform

        775 is the goat

        • I still have a nice Q6600 somewhere, loved that CPU.

  • +1

Finally I can upgrade! Cheers Clear!

    • Not an affiliated item but cash back tracked, I’m assuming this will get rejected at some point?

  • i feel like at this price 5800x (non 3d) is the better option for both gaming and computing tasks

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009428828580.html?spm=a2…

    • 5500X3D will outperform a 5800X at gaming. What sort of price are we looking at for a 5800X?

      • beg to differ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMIyuyhwb9g

        250aud, its on the link

        • +1

We'll have to see how real benchmarks go. Those kind of comparison videos are good for a general idea, but they don't actually prove their testing setup.

And that link wasn't there when I went to reply. Between the time I replied you had edited it in.

          • -1

@Clear: that extra cores is going to help alot if you decide to stream, or multi task.. for exact same price the 5800x still beats in most aspects except power draw

            • +1

@Abang Tukang Bakso: 5800X better at multi tasking is a no brainer. More cores, more threads etc. That's not in dispute.

              • -1

@Clear: if you see the youtube link I posted you can see that in terms of gaming theyre both on par, better in some case

                • +1

@Abang Tukang Bakso: Yes but they're only to be used as a general guide since they never prove their actual testing benchmark setup. More reputable sources like Gamer Nexus do. That will have a big impact if the setup isn't entirely truthful. Especially when people elsewhere, like on Reddit report that the 5500X3D is outperforming the 5800XT.

Either way it sounds like a deal for the 5800X should be posted.

  • Is this worth upgrading from a 3300x, I mostly play esports (League) and friendslop games but will throw in modern games every now and again (CoD/BF/PUBG). I have a 2080Ti which I got from a friend and some of these games still feel a bit sluggish.
    *edit - I play 1080p 60hz

    • Yep it'll make a big difference. Just make sure your motherboard supports the 5000 series - it may need a firmware update.

    • BF6 really benefits from a better CPU in terms of stutter in my experience but I went from a 2600x.

  • can you pay in USD and still get the topcashback 13%

    • +1

Yes. Cashback will be AUD equivalent minus tax

      • also takes over 4 months right?

        • 3 months give or take. Actually this one isn't affiliated so no cashback

  • +1

I have a 3600 paired with 2070 super, got 32gb ram in there and I don’t think I can stomach an upgrade to am5 anytime soon due to ram.

Is this a worthwhile purchase? I usually game on 3440x1440 when game supports it.

    • Is this a worthwhile purchase? I usually game on 3440x1440 when game supports it.

Impossible to say if that's all the information you're providing.

All games use varying amounts of CPU vs GPU, so generalising based on resolution is not a good idea.

A better way to figure things out is to have a hardware usage monitor open while you play games.
Take a look at whether your CPU or GPU maxes out first in busy areas (i.e. when your FPS is at its lowest, not at its highest looking at the sky or at somewhere else with nothing going on).

If CPU maxes out first and GPU usage is low, then a CPU upgrade will help.
If GPU maxes out first and CPU usage is low, then upgrading CPU will not do much, since you'll just have a faster CPU that is twiddling its thumbs waiting for the sweating GPU to catch up.

      • Thank you for the response, I'll fire up a couple of games tomorrow and see which component is the bottleneck!

        • +1

Also, if it's an older game or a game otherwise known for not being well multi threaded, then you may have to look at a few specific CPU threads/cores that are maxed out on the game, rather than the overall CPU usage that averages it across all cores.

    • +1

Doubtful. I had a very similar config and at 1440 my GPU was maxed and CPU was 85-90%. I would your cpu and gpu are closely matched.

    • I'm still running a 3900X with 2080 Super and 64gb RAM, I built it for the 1st advertised release of CyberPunk2077. I'll skip the AM5 gen so I keep hoping to find a X3D deal which will let me upgrade but I've just not found it for the risk/labour/cost/performance ratio.

I really want a 5800X3D but I think my chances are slim to none

  • I've been wanting a X3D CPU for ages and missed out on the sales from when AM4 were having them. Would this be worthwhile to get if I already have a 5600?

  • I'm not too clued up on PC building myself but I've currently got a PC I had built 6 years ago with a 1650 Super and a Ryzen 5 3600, mainly for Sim racing like iracing on 1440p ultrawide which worked fine for ages but now needs updating. I don't want to fork out a fortune building a whole new PC on a new platform and would rather just stay with AM4 and get a new CPU, GPU and a bit more ram instead, and from my limited research I've heard the X3D series of CPUs are the best available for gaming and simulation on a budget with AM4. I understand they aren't readily available anymore and that this 5500X3D just released in china and hasn't yet been released here in Australia, I'm pretty keen on the upgrade but just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience buying from this seller on AliExpress and if it's safe enough to do so, I just don't know if these AliExpress CPU deals are too good to be true or not? Are the CPUs brand new unused? What sort of warranty is offered etc? I would also be sourcing a new GPU locally and weighing up options like a 9060XT. Would appreciate any advice, cheers!

  • I'm in a similar boat to @EWing1389. I'm still on AM4 (3900XT & AMD 6900XT). I was originally going to get a 5800X3D or 5700X3D or a 5900XT, but I couldn't decide between all these (this was about a year ago), but then the 5700X3D and 5800X3D stock seemed to just vanish and I missed out on those CPUs.

I'm kicking myself for missing out on those 5700X3D deals people posted here. Well, I didn't miss out, I just passed up on them at the time :(. I didn't expect the production of those CPUs to just stop like that. I thought AMD would want to keep making them for a while to get some more money from all the AM4 users.

At that point, I was thinking for my next upgrade, I'll just wait a bit and just go to AM5. Then the RAM prices started increasing and since I need 64GB, that's not really an option anymore. I'm also kicking myself for passing up the $300 prices I could have gotten 128GB DDR4 for last year. I actually tried to order a G.Skill 128GB 3600Mhz kit about a year ago, but as I was checking out, I didn't realize the sale was ending and it ended as I was trying to pay for it (price went back up). I tried to ask Amazon support a few minutes later if I could still get that price, but they said there was no stock left and as it wasn't from Amazon themselves (it was from a third party seller), so they said they couldn't match that price as they didn't have stock themselves.

How would this 5500X3D compare to a 3900XT overall? I know it'll be better in gaming, but how far off would it be in productivity? Would it be worth looking at a 5900XT instead? If I asked this question 6+ months ago, I'm sure most people would have told me to go to AM5, but I'm not sure if it's worth paying $500 or so for a 5900XT. I would have rather of put that money towards a new platform.

Would this 5500X3D CPU work on most motherboards? Would they need BIOS updates?

    • +1

For productivity your 3900XT is going to better since it offers 12 cores, 24 threads and boost clock of 4.7GHz. Versus 6 cores, 12 threads and boost clock of 4.0GHz in the 5500X3D.

5900XT or 5950X would be better due to 16 cores, 32 threads and 4.8/4.9GHz boost clock.

I'm still rocking a 3900X for my productivity workstation.

      • Alright, cool, thanks. Any idea what the average/best pricing is for the 5900XT and 5950X CPUs. I just found the 5900XT for about $492 on Amazon (another member suggested to look on Amazon). I couldn't find a better price than $565 on Amazon for the 5950X.

What are you using in your main PC?

        • +1

That's probably the best right now. I use 5700X3D for main as it's gaming.

          • @Clear: Alright, cool. Sounds like you have two very good setups there.

One other question, what are the best websites for gaming benchmarks or video channels on Youtube? I'd like to see how the 5900XT compares for gaming to the 5700X3D. Just curious how far off it is.

I've also got a backup system with a 2700X that I don't use much. I want to also upgrade the CPU in that. What would you suggest as a cost effective solution for that? This 5500X3D or something else? Don't want to spend too much on that one.

  • I just want to know, is it safe to buy this from this link? Are the chips genuine and unused?

    • Lots of people have been buying CPUs from AliExpress for some time now, with broadly positive results.
It's especially popular for CPUs that are region restricted, such as the 5500X3D (officially only released in China, presumably for cheap 1080p esports PCs).

The main issue is that aftermarket support is limited, but they do pass on some of the savings through to you, which is why this method of purchase is so popular.

      • Yeah, I've wanted to know the same thing.

        Are they brand new CPUs?

And what happens in regard to warranty? I know CPUs in general are usually pretty robust (I've never had to use warranty on one before, but I've also never overclocked any CPUs I've owned too much) and you don't normally ever have to worry about warranty, but do they have warranty?

        • You should essentially pretend you don't have warranty and be surprised if you do receive any decent after sales service rather than be shocked that you don't get any.

In return, they're passing on some of the savings onto you.

          • @scalebearer: OK, fair enough. The only issue is, if I bought it from AliExpress, I likely wouldn't be installing it for a while, so what would happen if it doesn't work when I do get around to installing it?

It sounds like I'd have to install it right away to make sure it's working, but I won't be able to do that, so that is why I was asking about warranty. Just for DOA basically. I don't expect any issues if it works from the get-go.

      • Thanks, I've gonna ahead and ordered it from this link, got it for $265aud. I managed to get a DDR4 32GB 3200mhz (2x16) ram kit aswell for about $265 from mwave, I'm looking to buy possibly a 9060XT 16GB for my 1440p ultrawide sim racing rig. Hopefully these spice up my current r5 3600 and 1650 super combo!

        • which RAM kit did you get if you don't mind me asking?

Man, 64GB was only $185 or so not that long ago.

          • @Ice009: The cheapest I could find was this from mwave:

            Kingbank 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz Desktop Memory

I wish I had upgraded my PC earlier, it was built 6 years ago so has done well really.

            • @AGame40: Thanks. I'll take a look at it.

Yeah, we both screwed up. I was meaning to upgrade over a year ago and I should have, but I changed lanes and thought I'll just get AM5 (new RAM, MB, CPU), but I didn't expect the prices to go through the roof. I was just going to get 64GB DDR5, a $250-$300 MB and a CPU such as maybe the 7800X3D or whatever was sub $500 at the time.

I should have just upgraded my AM4 setup when I was thinking of doing it over 12-14 months ago. I almost got 128GB DDR4 3600Mhz for $300 12 months ago, but when I went to buy the RAM, it turns out it was on sale, and the sale literally ended as I was going through checkout (I didn't know when the sale ended at Amazon). I tried going to Amazon support to chat with them and they couldn't let me buy if for that price as it was from a 3rd party seller and Amazon themselves didn't have any stock to price match. Then a few months later, prices started going up, and up.

  • Code(s) do not work for me am i doing something wrong?

    • They've probably hit the max redemption limit. No uncommon a day or 2 before the sale ends.
